Hotel 17  

Location was fantastic. If you are healthy you can walk to Greenwich village, east and west village, little Italy and china town with ease. The financial district and times square are also possible to walk to just under an hour in opposite directions. There is also a subway station within 5 minute walk. So the location of this hotel was perfect for us and at a reasonable price compared to most of new York. The shared bathrooms were always incredibly clean. 2 per floor and there was always one if not 2 available. Rooms clean. Great choice if like us you want to be in walking distance of lower manhattan on a lower budget. The

only downside was the noisy air con unit.

The location is excellent, just outside of Union Square. The room was small but clean and with natural light from two street-view windows. There is no private bathroom, but a sink in the room and the two shared bathrooms in the corridor are modern, bright, and very clean. Perhaps the hotel wasn't full, as we never had to wait to use one. Hopefully, the hotel distributes guests for maximum access to shared bathrooms when possible.

Everything was fine on this trip -- but I suppose I could worry that shared bathrooms could be inconvenient on a future stay if hotel is full....

It is close to the Union Square on 14St station so you can get easily to Time Square and all the main attractions in New York, the hotel staff is very friendly, the hotel has many places to eat around but the prices arent cheap! You can easily get delivery of food to the hotel or shop at the supermarkets that are close, just half block away. For the price is totally worthy and I would stay again! There is a '''shared bathroom'' if you are planning to be in the city all day dont worry about this! The lavatory in every room is more than helpfull.

This hotel is not about luxury is about good price, and a nice bedroom, the bad thing is the shared bathroom but it was always clean and I never waited to use it, there is not microwave, coffee maker, or fridge to use is just a regular room with enough space, a comfortable bed and enough to get there to rest at night. The rooms close to the street are noisy in the mornings but I really dont have any complains about the hotel and the price was the best in town! I travel alone with my mom for vacations and the bedroom was just enough for us

very clean and surprisingly acceptable even though it has common bathrooms in the hall. the 3 bathrooms were shared by about 12 rooms and i never saw another user. the rooms had sinks.

While the rooms are small, it is very clean, very comfortable and the location is very convenient. It is well worth the price if you are looking to stay in Manhattan.

scrupulous cleanliness of shared baths

The position of the hotel and its period charm.However a coupe of the people on the front desk, especially one called John, made life difficult and unpleasant. He is an arrogant and unfriendly individual, who gives of an aura of being completely unconcerned about the guests well-being and unwilling to engage in friendly or courteous discussion. As a result I will be cancelling a future period there of nine days, booked through your system,and replacing Hotel 17 with somewhere my wife and can feel as valued customers rather than irritations to be dealt with in an arrogant and rude manner.

I would recommend the hotel on its location and period charm, but would not recommend anyone to stay there until they have changed their staff employment policy. We got the impression that they see themselves as some kind of cheap student hostel in which they can act with impunity towards their guests, since most only stay for brief periods and do not answer back. But to mature professionals this is completely unacceptable.

It's a long-established no-frills hotel with real character that has probably remained unchanged for many years. Very affordable by ny standards and well connected to the rest of Manhattan via the nearby subway at Union Square. An excellent spot for breakfast – the Gramercy Café – is two minutes walk away. The shared bathroom was kept spotlessly clean and never seemed to be occupied when we needed it so the lack of en suite was no problem. The antique elevator probably has to be seen to be believed.

There was a problem with our key-card on the final evening that meant we were locked out of our room for about 20 minutes until a repair man arrived but this was a minor irritation and unlikely to be a common occurrence. Hotel 17 is ideal if you're just looking for an inexpensive place to spend the night (we were out all day every day) but if you need anything more than very basic facilities or require a bit of luxury you might want to look elsewhere.

No warm water in room, dirty showers. Receptionist made Jewish jokes. I will never stay there again.

Location - Grammercy Park! and there's a nice old-fashioned feel to the place. Friendly staff.

The mattresses are old and hard and the walls are a little on the thin side.

I was was happily surprised at the amazing location, beautiful building, and general cleanliness. It was perfect for a cheap weekend in the heart of hip nyc. I am definitely going to go there again. If you're like me and were worried about the bathroom situation, they are single bathrooms, and are impeccably clean with no line. Definitely 100 times better than any dorm situation.
