Great room, location and price. Overall very pleased with staff friendliness, ease of check in, cleanliness of room (no bedbugs!) during our weekend trip Oct 27-31. Can't beat the price for such a great location- 15 minute walk from both Penn Station and Grand Central. Staff allowed us to leave bags after we checked out so we could take advantage of our last few hours in the city. Decor is dated but reasonable- beds were super comfy. Separate bathrooms were very clean and always available. I'll be returning!

Perfect location. Just one block away from Subway station, 3 blocks from Empire State Building and easily walking distance to Time Square and other facilities. Room was alright, internet available in every room. Internet was slow.

The hotel was in a wonderful location for people looking to explore the city. It was only 31 blocks from Chinatown as well as being close to Times square. Pennstation was only about a 15 minute walk away and the subway system ran right close by. On the same street as the hotel there is a great Sushi place called Umi Sushi, a laundry facility, a 24 hour gym, as well as a cafe on both corners. It is also in great location for Thai,Italian,Korean,Irish, and German food. I liked that the shared bathrooms were extremely clean and I never once had to wait in order to use it. There is at least two on each floor. The price was phenomenal for the Hotel especially with the location. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and I plan on staying there again the next time that I go to the city. The only things that could have been improved upon where the size of the elevator and the overheating of the rooms. Unfortunately the elevator can't really fit more then one person if they are carrying their luggage. However, seeming how you only really need to carry luggage upon arrival and check out it doesn't really effect the stay much. As for the heat in the room since I went in winter the heat was always on. There was no way to turn off the heat and so I found that I had to turn the air conditioner on high blast in order for the room to be at an almost right temperature. However, the heat wasn't stifling or too uncomfortable. These "complaints" are very tiny and in no way would effect my decision to stay at the hotel again.

I really liked Hotel 31. It was well located, next to a subway station and times square. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and confortable. The fact that I had chosen a room without a bathroom wasn´t a problem. The bathrooms (there were two in each floor) were always free, clean and confortable. We had enough space for four big bags and shopping bags in our room. I´ll probably stay there again when I to go back to NYC.

It's clean. I don't like it at all. For almost $200 a night we got a tiny room with share bathroom, a twin size bed, and a tiny window.

Great location, a few minutes walk from the subway, lots of eateries and shops. Relatively cheap for new york. Pretty clean, including bathroom. Free wifi, though pretty slow in evenings. Tiny and very slow old-fashioned elevator, though it did have a certain charm. Small room, but you get what you pay for.

Nice location, in the midtown of manhattan, 5 minutes walke to the empire building, also near the 5 Ave The building and the room is old, the heater there does not work very well, turn on 5minutes then turn off several hours, if the room is not small enough, it will be chill in the night

Location is good, the price was reasonable. The building is old, but renovated. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, there was a safe and a TV. The common bathroom was also clean and there was no problem using it. A decent place to stay if you want to spend a night in the city. It got stuffy in the room in the morning because of the central heating. The window faced a wall, but since we only came to our room to sleep it was not really a problem.

Nice, clean. A bit too clean in the room sometimes. The stuff you scatter on the floor will be hard to find again:) Friendly old man helping with luggage, he was so sweet. Walking distance to shopping area (34th street and along 5th street), and near good breakfast spots. Oh and super great with free WiFi! so useful. People seemed to smoke in the corridors although there were "no smoking" signs but that was nothing we really were bothered by. Shower early in the morning unless you enjoy cold showers:)

The hotel is clean but it was a bit hot in my room on the day of arrival. It's not far away from the Times Square, perhaps about 15-20 mins by foot but you can always get a subway, which is just across the street. There are rooms with bathrooms but they are expensive. so I stayed in a simple room. It has a sink but I had to use public restrooms for other things. They were clean, so no complaints. Maids were friendly but I would not say the same about administrative personnel. I have had a feeling that they were simply indifferent. There is no kettle in a room, so if you want to have a tea/coffee you have to go to cafes/restaurants nearby. I think that for the price guests pay, it would be possible to buy basic kettles. The light in my room was dim, so it was very hard to read anything. Overall, it's a basic but good hotel.

I loved Hotel 31 personally; it appears to have once been a rooming house that was converted for hotel use. The 19th century detailing was lovely, and it was very elegantly appointed for a budget hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room and common spaces had an elegant antiquarian charm. The bed was comfortable, the heat was just right - for the price, unbeatable! The pillows were a bit hard and uncomfortable.

The hotel was more than pleasant. My wife and I got upgraded to a room with a bathroom and two beds. The room was quite big for New York hotels and had a warm and tasteful look. The shower had nice hot water and cable television functioned properly. The elevator is a bit small and the door is manual open and can be a hassel if you have a rolling bag. Most of the rooms share two bathrooms among the floor. So if you do not like that aspect you should get the in-room bathroom which may cost more.

“The Pod Hotel was wonderful! We were looking for a hotel that was conveniently located and well priced - didn't want to pay a high price for a place to sleep. We were looking for something well located, reasonably priced, clean, and safe. The Pod Hotel was all of those and very comfortable as well! Very comfy beds. The staff was gracious and friendly. I would most definately stay there again!” Pamela, Kingston |
