No elevator...good for people (like me) who need more exercise 10-minute walk to the nearest subway station. Not the best place for me as I used the subway quite often.
Very friendly and helpful staff Simple but satisfactory breakfast
Nothing much! I would have just liked pancakes and Maple syrup for breakfast!!!
The cosyness of the place and the friendly attention of our hosts. Everything was done to make people meet in a cheerful atmosphère and i liked the 6.00 drink!
There is nothing I didn't like: I'm sure it's not for everyone because it's not five-star luxury, but if you read the website and the reviews you will know if it's for you. Personally I think nice people will love it!
I can well understand why this hotel attracts such positive reviews. Its mantra is that it's a 'home from home' and it really feels like that. Everyone is welcoming; the kitchen's always open; breakfast is fine (though NB not cooked); the managers and staff are full of helpful advice and suggestions for your stay; and wine and cheese are provided as a nightly social gathering. And, being located on 46th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues, most places you want to get to are eminently walkable. I think I used the subway twice in a five-day stay. (Admittedly, I was pretty walked out at the end of it!)
Nothing we had a great stay!
The staff was so helpful, especially Susanne is the hart and the soul of this hotel. We're looking froward to come back. Its the best location for a great dinnner.
Got lots of help figuring out how to navigate the city. Also enjoyed the wine and cheese happy hour.
The brilliant service and help given by Sue and her staff
The staff was super nice and helpful and they created a really homey and warm environment. The room was comfortable and spacious. I loved my stay at this 414!
The owners of the hotel give all personal attitude for you. You will received all answers or any help you need there.
Everything. I arrived just after happy hour but Mary? Marie? Maria? graciously brought out wine and cheese and served it in a cozy lobby equipped with fire place, newspapers and everything else you could need when arriving. In the morning over breakfast I met Susan, the owner, who lived up to all the wonderful things I heard about her from her Maria.
Staff was really welcoming and kind!
For extended stays some features become more relevant (gym, pool, business facilities, etc) but that's not what this hotel is about and they don't claim to be that.
Small hotel, great location, inexpensive (for NYC), great personality.
Downstsirs out the back room was a little dark and cold. It took 3 attempts at showing us to rooms before we got a free room. Location is s little out of the way for travel with bags via the subway.
Nice friendly and helpful staff. Nice arrival with cheese and wine happy hour. Nice breakfast.
We really liked the staff and location of this quaint hotel. We could walk to so many restaurants and also the theatre district on Broadway. Just a block and a half to the excitement of New York City. We were first time travelers to actually stay in Manhattan and we wanted something authentic. Hotel offers a very nice happy hour with cheese and wine for the guests. Hotel was a great value for the money. Give this hotel a whirl, you won't be disappointed.
Our first night was a bit loud since we were on the first floor near the lobby and breakfast area, but Susan was nice enough to switch our room to a quieter spot and that worked out well!
Susan, the owner of the hotel was extremely accommodating when we requested a quieter room. All the staff is very friendly and helpful for how to get around and where to go in the city. We loved the complimentary breakfast (they would extend it for us in the mornings since we woke up late), and the happy hour of complimentary alcohol and cheese was a lovely touch. This is such a quaint boutique hotel that is comfortable and is the perfect value for your money in a great spot! What more could you want? This is not a fancy luxury hotel, but if you are on a budget and need something with all the qualities that I mentioned above, then you would be silly not to pick this hotel.
The room was expensive, but it was a holiday weekend. The prices are more reasonable at other times.
The 414 hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They held our bags for hours both before checkin and after checkout. They brewed us a pot of decaf coffee when we asked for it. I checked in alone, then later called and asked them to let my husband into the room and they did that.
A limited breakfast variety and especially cold hardboiled eggs. That's about it.
A very relaxing, friendly and warm environment. The rooms are small but very clean. The location is great. All the staff are super friendly and accommodating, while Andre is the best. The "happy hour" by the fireplace is very much appreciated.
The pillows aren't very good and the bed sank in, but it was still comfortable.
Excellent and welcoming staff
The staff if this hotel is incredible. Customer service is stressed and the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable. Beaks fasts and happy hours give ample opportunity to meet and talk with the other guests. International clientele, this hotel is very European in ambiance. a true gem!!!
The family feel of a small boutique hotel. Staff and owners were particularly helpful and friendly.
great staff, great location
Very friendly staff. Good location
No shower cap (honestly, this is the only thing I can think of!)
Located only a few blocks from the subway on a quiet, safe street. Staff actively encouraged customers to socialize over breakfast and happy hour. Truly a friendly, fun oasis. Breakfast was excellent (with ceramic mugs!). Room was nice size, with good quality shampoo, conditioner, lotion. We will definitely stay here again.
It is wonderful to experience such human service in New York. A boutique, friendly hotel and everything a chain isn't. I'll be back.
Nothing really but if you have a lot of luggage but don't mind a few stairs, ask for a room on the second or third floors at the back. Ground floor room is fine and beautifully quiet but quite small.
The charming welcome from the owner, Susan Yates and her excellent staff who were always ready to make recommendations or bookings; the interesting mix of guests you could meet over breakfast or at happy hour by the fire.
