Old time motor lodge with innovative newer room decor. The wife liked it, so that's a plus. A bit overpriced for the season and facility quality in my opinion. But it is a lake resort town and nothing is inexpensive. Parking lot was surprisingly quiet and we slept well. The location is just far enough off the main drag to be very quiet. Bed was comfy but furnishings were sparse.
Night manager was a bit harsh - we got a stern warning that ANY violation of pool hours would result in being asked to vacate the premises with forfeiture of all room charges. Since it was chilly and raining, the pool wasn't really in our plans, but the warning was surprisingly harsh. Hey, I'm mid-50s, not a teenager.... Morning manager was more friendly. Breakfast was typical American style serve yourself continental breakfast that we didn't passed on. Nothing special there. Bath supplies are on the low end. A step or two better quality should be easily doable given the price to stay there. Needs a better cable TV guide. The printed one in the room was not correct and we couldn't easily find one within the massive channel selection.
under renovation no breakfast office closed most of time when reserved no notice of offseason was only guest for 2 days
Really enjoyed the fire pits with complimentary firewood in the center courtyard.
The room smelled a little musty upon arrival.
Liked being able to step out of the room and have chairs and a table, shaded pavilion, and use the fire pits with wood provided. Appreciated the quiet hours and like the no pets rule. Breakfast was good, beds great, pool nice and clean. Nice decorating and touches in the bathroom. Grounds clean and kids enjoyed the multi-person bike for use on the grounds.
Rooms could have been cleaner. Carpet needed vacuuming in the corners, fire alarm hanging out of ceiling and freezer tray in frig was very dirty. The grass area is obviously well used and could use a good watering this time of year. Could also use periodic interior paint touch up considering it is newly redecorated.
We stayed at the hotel before new owners. This hotel has made MANY improvements and is very family oriented with many outdoor activities to keep families busy. We decided to stay due to hearing of the improvements being made. Great job with remodeling project! Very unique. We also loved being able to sit outside our room at night and enjoyed the smell of the camp fires. Nice to see the pool area so cleaned up and now the new area that was built outside. Also - location is great! We could walk to our boat, close to restaurants and a good walk or bike ride to many enjoyable sights in Okoboji.
My suggestion would be to label a parking spot in front of each room with the number of the room and to have boats/trailers park off to the side up front... hard to get around and also to see and enjoy the nice improvements over the boats / pontoons. We also did not have shampoo in our room - would have packed some had I known it wouldn't be there so had to go buy some. The soap in the dispenser in shower clearly not a good one for hair. I also think now that you are completing your remodel you should go through each room and check them. Our bathroom door was hard to open - might need to go in and adjust them - check for paint on the walls, etc. We would be able to use the property much more if we could bring our 3 pound yorkie with us. :) We usually have to stay at Arrowwood as they allow small pets. This property has made great improvements and the owners are SUPER friendly! Staff are pretty friendly too. Will definitely tell folks to go enjoy a unique stay at your hotel!
The friendly staff and excellent location
Roomy, quiet, and close to everything.
Door needs update, bathroom also needs update, and parking was crowded.
