A whole group spent Thanksgiving at the Ace. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the restaurant is excellent, room service was great and the nightlife a spectacle. Atmosphere is very non traditional and all age groups loved it.
Feels like the bathroom is part of the bedroom (in all rooms - I checked!) so there's NO privacy if you're sharing
The staff are very helpful, the rooms are unusual and not cookie cutter, really great vibe, great nightlife, and the beds are supremely comfortable
The staff was rude and hostile. At check-in they said their policy was no one under the age of 21 may stay at the hotel. My daughter (17) and her friend had flown in from NYC to visit UCLA. I called ahead of time, gave my credit card authorization, and confirmed that they would be arriving Thursday night around 10pm and that check-in would be a breeze. At 1am EST I received a frantic call from the girls that they were being put out on the street and didn't know what to do. A very rude and HOSTILE Manager got on the phone. She informed that 1. It didn't matter about the pre-arrangements I made, someone made a mistake in letting me book 2. There was no managers or corporate office to call to make an exception 3. There was no concierge service to help the girls find a new place to stay. All she know is that they couldn't stay at the ACE for "policy" reasons. At that point she refused to talk to me, refused to talk to my girls, and told them to leave. We had family 2 hours away, I even asked if they would be allowed to stay in the lobby and someone over 18 would check them in. That's when the check -in age changed to 21 and she said they'd refund all monies paid but that they could not stay there. The girls were distraught and I was furious at the level of context, cruelty, and lack of commen sense excercises by this "woman". When I explained I was, in fact, familiar with legal matters, since it is my profession, magically the GM called my cell phone and said he would allow the girls to stay there. Great. But let's keep in mind, there were no disclaimers about a 21 year old stay or check-in on booking.com or the Ace LA website. Moreover the actual website says you just be 21 years to book, which I am, but makes no reference to the actaul age limit necessary to stay.
The architecture and artistry of the hotel was amazing the food was delicious and the staff was so friendly we would love to come back
Absolutely nothing :)
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Ace for our one year anniversary. The hotel was unique and funky. The upstairs bar had a great vibe and tasty drinks. We also ate breakfast at the cafe downstairs, and it was divine. Our room was modern yet cozy! I would love to stay here again!
Great location for exploring downtown LA, excellent roof bar, helpful staff.
Everybody who works at the Ace is friendly, helpful - fantastic staff. Great restaurant and room service, wonderful roof terrace, good gym
Lavatory door didn't close properly, so sharing a room is very intimate, plus there's not one comfortable chair in the place! Perfect if you are working at a desk, not so great if you want to hang out
The location was why I picked the Ace Hotel because my friend and I were seeing a concert nearby. The room had a great balcony. we were offered an upgraded room that was larger for free. super generous yet decline do because we wanted the balcony. Every staff member was very nice and seemed to sincerely care that they provided excellent customer service and wanted to make sure we had a great experience at the Ace.
I wish I could have stayed a few more days not just one night.
Boutique Feel! Staff were so friendly and helpful. It was definitely the place to be downtown. Very busy at the restaurant and the rooftop bar.
Light levels in the room were a little dim.
The Ace has friendly staff very knowledgeable about the area valets were quick and easy I will definitely be staying there again!
Cost of parking seems high!
loved the design and materials used for construction and decoration. Amazing goody box at reasonable prices, as well as a full bar with middle sized bottles (not the small ones) could have easily organize a party in the room.
both days I stayed, the maid knocked on my door 3 times within 1 h, starting at 8.00am!!!! the coffee shop on the ground floor is quiet busy, wanted to have a coffe at 11.00am and they changed me tables 3 times until they got rid of me...
Everything was really well done. I could stay in this hotel forever.
Excellent design hotel downtown L.A. Cool restaurant and roof terrace.
The staff at the L.A Chapter is a bit hectic - we waited half our for a table in a half empty restaurant for a Sunday brunch, but luckily the waitress at the table was nice and helpful.
Amazing building, great fixtures, well designed, great toiletries, well-appointed rooms, delicious restaurant, good coffee, and fun atmosphere.
Asked for a rollaway at reservation and did not get it, record player didn't work, room service took 2.5 hours; room keys stopped working halfway through stay, we had to change the credit card the room was under and it was kind of an ordeal because of booking with a 3rd party. Things were weirdly glitchy. However, I would stay here again or come to the cafe to socialize.
perfect location, kindness of the staff, smart way to lead an Hotel, design
if you have a room at the 13th floor, you will be trouble by the party at the rooftop, until 1.00 am
I enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere of the hotel, the roof top bar is very nice but my favorite was the restaurant at the first floor . The staff was really friendly and extremely helpfull, they even charged my phone for me since I forgot my charger! Excellent service. Also the room service was very fast , I had dinner at my room one night. I absolutely loved the bed ! Very comfortable !
I didn't like the position of the bed in relation to the TV, instead of in front of the bed the TV was on the side very close to the bed which it made hard to see, also the bathtub was very slippery , there is no grit on the floor of the tub so we had to put a towel ,since we couldn't find any tub mat in the room. Also the shower curtain leaves room for wind to goes in so it's kind of cold, I would much prefer a glass door of some sort . The way they placed the bed attached with your feet attached to the window was kind of awkward , I would rearrange the bed and make it so it would face the tv.
I love the Ace Hotel in New York and this was equally as impressive. Close to some great new bars and restaurants in the up and coming downtown area
The rooftop bar is impressive - but for 3 of our nights it was booked for private parties so disappointing as we had to go elsewhere outside the hotel.
Great design, great bar, restaurant, breakfast... everything
The Ace DTLA boasts modern hipster ambiance and a lovely historic theater downstairs (which you cannot casually visit unless there is an event and you have tickets, even if you are a hotel guest), as well as being centrally located—a hop, skip and a jump away from all the bars in downtown Los Angeles. On the service front, everyone working there is young, equally "hip," welcoming and very accommodating.
However, there seemed to be a plumbing issue in parts of the establishment. Hence, a certain lingering smell between the downstairs cafeteria and the lift up to the rooftop. And for what you're paying, the rooms can be rather cramped and minimal in its amenities for the price you're paying. The extra couple hundreds you're paying is really for the minimalistic "modern" style of the hotel (which is where I'm debating on if it was all worth it) and crowd that seems to enjoy convening at the rooftop bar. Speaking of which, the roof has a decent size bar—though some might call it small. The pool is also located on the roof, but it's little more than a glorified wading pool. Compared to say, the Ace in Palm Springs, there was something missing or incomplete about the Ace experience in LA. And yes, that's discounting the art mural still in construction in the hotel lobby.
Hotel and the rooms are designed very well. Rooftop is cool too albeit packed. . Restaurant / food was great
The only problem was the front desk staff which was consistently rude and with so much attitude that it wasnt fun or cool anymore
Too noisy. They still don t know if they want to be an hotel , a disco , or ...? Rooms are smelly of chemical and not so comfy
While the building and accommodations are amazing the staff at the Ace Hotel are truly the stars. Their friendly and helpful demeanour set a tone which all guests seem to follow. The Ace is not 'too cool for school' it is just right!
Roof top area delightful--spectacular views. Very nice attentive staff.
Noisy, elevators always crowded and slow. WC had door but almost in the sleeping area and no door in shower/tub. Fire alarm went off late one night and floor was evacuated but staff told us that there was no problem and they had cancelled fire department check--a total safety hazard.
I loved the unique art throughout, and my favorite place was the rooftop. I actually felt if I was in another country. The ambience on the roof top was perfect!
Record player in room great view of the old down town and the best bar ever on roof
