Ace Hotel20 West 29th Street, Garment District, NY 10001 New York (Show map) Very good, Score from 816 reviews“The atmosphere is perfect for charismatic people! The hotel is awesome! We loved our small room (not really small, comparing to ny standards) and the minibar there, where you can find so many things. The bar downstairs is crowded and cool. Location is very good as well. ”

I hesitate to recommend this hotel, because I liked it so much that I want to keep it to myself! It is a young, hip hotel and the lobby is a gathering place for lots of young people at most hours of the day. My husband and I stayed there because the price was reasonable. We are not in the young crowd but loved the funky design. Though there was lots of noise in the lobby, the rooms were quiet. If you want the "typical" looking hotel room, this is not it. They had more the appearance of a dorm room of a hip young artist, with artwork in each room and an interesting room layout.

I loved this hotel. The design of the hotel is amazing. I loved sitting in the bar and taking it all in because you keep seeing new, tiny details. The view from my room was unreal. I looked out of my window every morning to see the Empire State staring down. Awesome! Which tells you about the excellent location too. Midtown, so in walking distance to everywhere if necessary. The room was fantastic, very different and was not your normal dingy and dark neutral boring design. They had really tried to find me extra room to write and a desk, as requested, which was really appreciated. And the music playing and atmosphere was brilliant - there was always a hub of activity in the lobby. Most staff were really welcoming and couldn't do enough to help. They were all dressed in keeping with the feel of the place. The food in the restaurant was delicious (although as a vege I was very limited) and the drinks in the bar were gorgeous and some different choices. I also got a laptop to use the whole time for free, which I couldn't get over. A real bonus. The room was kept spotlessly clean and the facilities were great. If you want a buzz - this is the place. But it's lively, so if you want lots of sleep, it's not for you! A couple of members of staff were rude, particularly in the restaurant bar. I don't expect to pay a lot of money to feel like I am putting someone out for a drink. They were a bit too cool...or thought they were. We also had issues with our television on the last couple of days, when it kept pixelating and turning off. One of the reception staff didn't really want to deal with this but the engineer was very helpful. It was very frustrating though as we were stuck in our hotel due to the storm.

The Ace was a pleasant surprise for a few reasons. Their published pix led me to expect a much funkier place. It's a serious hipster hotbed, a post-grunge designer's dream spot, but the staff is incredibly gracious, smiley even, and well trained. From the door and bellmen (yes all men) to the front desk, restaurant management and staff, housekeeping and room service, small details are taken care of in unexpected ways. When stuff goes wrong, as it's wont to do in non-luxury NYC hotels, adjustments are made and help provided easily and quickly. I was given a closet of a Queen bed size room. (It wasn't the lowest priced one, so I really wonder what those are like. I'm aware of size restrictions in NYC but even then, for the price, the room felt unfairly small.) However, when the door lock didn't work, I was swooped up to a far bigger room with two double Queens and a far more generous feel. To be fair, the small room had the quiet and view I'd requested and the larger one had neither, but it was far more pleasant. When an incoming group of partyers who'd reserved a whole section of the lounge required the lobby staff to ask me to leave my very comfy drink perch late one eve, the manager let me know it was unnecessary and invited me to remain. I was made to feel comfortable and welcome. The lobby is a massive but upscale version of a mellow Williamsburg/Seattle style cafe by day, crowded, upscale bar by night. The transformation works somehow. Beyond that the food was uniformly tasty at the Breslin, and John Dory, Stumptown coffee included. Btw, room service was impeccable, beautifully presented, cheery, helpful and efficient. Tips are smartly included on all food bills and well deserved. I'd rec friends (young to young in spirit) and families with kids as well if the price stays reasonable. It's definitely not a luxury hotel, but it's fun, very service oriented, gracious and surprisingly attitude-free. The massive, gorgeous lobby cum cafe/restaurant/bar is irritatingly dark from morning until night, and the music earsplitting throughout as well. The two meetings I scheduled there had to be moved to the crowded restaurants (at my guests' request), which are quieter decibel levels but barely. A really counterproductive strategy for keeping guests around and providing much promised convenience. The cool factor really wouldn't be compromised by less ambient noise and better lighting by day. The menu in the lobby is far too limited, particularly as it's prepared by the same kitchen as the Breslin. The food is yummy, even inventive, but no fresh fruit sides for breakfast, for example? Given the super high food prices throughout, more thought and more expansive options are called for. The hotel gym is very small, basic, unstaffed, empty and uninviting, especially for a single female traveller, possibly because of its inaccessibility and dark, cramped design. Bathrooms are equally poorly placed in the public spaces. Housekeeping is a bit spotty but to be fair, the staff changed sheets, replaced (the quite minimal) toiletries and helped make things right immediately when requested. It was clearly a full house when I visited so that was impressive. The food was tasty but heavy, with too few light options and overpriced, even to a seasoned ex-NYer. Despite these complaints, I'd return for the easy location, ambience, cozy comfort (in the larger rooms), genuine liveliness and incredible staff.

I loved everything about this hotel.Starting from the view of my room(empire state) till the guys that were working there..the room was super comfi with awesome view to the 29th and soooo cool decoration..the colour and the graphic artwork in the room were very playfull ,so the furnitures. Impressed by the reception.it was really different in a good way. Top quality the cafeteria at the lobby and all the rest of the cafeterias and restaurants that were communicating-connected with the lobby of the hotel(especially the Breslin)..EVERY Night something was going on in our hotel..DJ's - super glamourous events and uber stylish people ,was our every night routine..the ace guys were more than helpful trying to do the best they could to assist us in every WAY..even the face control guy-who did not recognize us every time that we got back to the hotel and we had to show every time id in order to enter (cause of the private events going on..)-was the sweetest... We were given vintage bikes for free and we did and see everything that was to.. Ace hotel is the most glamorous- alternative-mix style-soulful hotel that I've been-heard-googled- seen.. I just wanna give my congrats to the guys that made it happen and to their employees for being truthfully kind.. Kostaki Iliana Sent from my iPhone:))) Maybe the form of soap that they used in the rooms was not so usefull.. That's it..

Excellent Choice for design and gourmet food. Convenient location, close to public transportation, but the neighbourhood can be rather dodgy. Super friendly and helpful staffs. The lobby can get crowded in the evening since the bar is a popular hang out place for locals. The room can be a bit especially for those who are used to brightly lit hotel rooms.

Mordern and funky and too dark but good location I would like to ask the hotel manager to go to room1100 on the 11th floor and walk in and see what would you do if you stayed in that room The bunk beds every time I sit on the bed to watch tv I keep getting my head on the iron bed frame and have few cuts on my head Its not very comfortable to sit and watch tv and try to drink a glass of wine , why was there no tea coffee sugar and milk and have a kettle and 2 mugs I would like to have a coffee at 6am or 7am in the morning when I wake up The remote control was crap and poor channels THis is a 4 star hotel It should be a 2 star or even 1 star Its not very good but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable

Hip hotel, great appeal to young travelers. Two fine restaurants on site. Spectacular rate through Booking.com. The immediate neighborhood is still up and coming; nothing dangerous but little in the way of clubs or restaurants within easy walking distance.

The lobby, restaurants, shops, everything about this hotel are fantastic! Very New York! It's not the complain, but if you choose BUNK room, you have almost no space to relax, but it's just OK, as it's a cheap room!!

The best thing about the Ace Hotel is the location. Make sure to leave out the "Do Not Disturb" sign or you will have housekeeping knocking at your door every 5 minutes starting at 8:00 A.M. And don't even think about staying 1 minute past the 12:00 P.M. check-out time. Even if you have your coat on - housekeeping will keep knocking on the door to get you to leave (even though no cleaning cart was anywhere in sight). Many small problems with this hotel - safe didn't work; only one very small mirror; dim lighting in the room; front-desk staff disabled room key-cards, etc., etc.

A very stylish, comfortable hotel in a fantastic central location. We loved the fact that each room was different with its own unique artwork. The staff were very helpful.Loved the use of the laptop in the room during our stay. The coffee shop downstairs was delicious too and handy for breakfast. We had a fab view of the Empire State building from our windows. We were thrilled with that. We loved the room and after being out and about it was lovely to come back to it and enjoy the room and look at the view. While waiting for our room to be ready we ordered two small cappucinos in the bar/cafe-before we discovered we could've got take away in the coffee shop at the front. That cost about $12.50(including service charge) which was enough to put us off ordering from there again!

The hotel was amazing. It has a lot of features like the record player, guitar and Smeg fridge in the room. We were on our honeymoon and we left a bottle of champagne and lovely note to welcome us. It's touches like that that mean everything. The bar and restaurant are buzzy and have a great atmosphere. I can't fault anything. We will definitely be staying there again.
