I had high-hopes from the name and website. But, when I arrived over the
broken brick stairway and into the freshman dorm decorated sort of
"office," with mismatched furniture and flyers taped all over
the place, I was told the room I booked was unavailable due to website
glitch. Not offered any alterations. Told they are fixing it but
"oh, well" for me. Pre-paid and no vacancy in dc and I had to
stay for sudden business trip. Hated it. Paid nearly $200 for what was
hostel-quality housing. An iron burn was in the old carpet,
someone's old shoe was under my bed. The shower didn't drain. I
was told I could launder in a basement (that I absolutely planned on)
but not told the "office" would close about 8pm and no change
or service would be available -- no staff was there overnight to assist
with change, questions, wifi access issues overnight. .I was hot but
told, in the morning, the a/c wasn't on for season. Really a
bizarre place for the $$$. $200 for the night!
The breakfast was cheap do-it-yourself carbs and styrofoam only - NOT a B&B. The coffee ran out, we were crowded. No problem for a Euro backpacking trip but totally avoidable if you are seeking a decent stay with even slightly more amenities. And, after check-out, you have to go to the end of the street with your luggages to hail a cab. The desk won't do it for you. And, given the lack of proximity to any metro, the cab service is a must.
The gentleman staffer who greeted me was lovely, helpful. The location
is ideal for Adams Morgan prowls..
