Juan (front desk) and the breakfast lady were friendly and helpful. The hotel is older but quaint and with character. Easy walk to Union. My 2nd stay and I'll be back again.
Outside noise from Geary Blvd.
Called front desk at 2am to report noise level but no one answered. Room was too warm with no heat being turned on.
I like that the lobby is very nice and clean. The room is nice and clean as well. The bed is very comfortable.
Two things that bothered my husband and I: Front desk staff(s) were not rude or anything but weren't welcoming as they should have been. Didn't get a good "welcome!" vibe or a nice to see you smile. Second, yes the room was neat and clean. The bed was comfortable. But the smell is really bad. I didn't enjoy my soft comfortable bed because I was so busy being bothered by the room's bad smell. Two things to improve 1) We couldn't leave the window open for the night for some fresh air because there is no window screen or at least window bars 2) either change the carpet or have air freshener in the room.
The big bed
Lack of pillows and softness of them
Nice Room. Comfortable bed. Liked that they had a fridge in the room.
The Room was hot No way to control the temperature.
When I arrived to the hotel, the staff were hugging and kissing. Not professional at all.
Poor breakfast, very old building
Not was nice being walking distance from a nice shopping district.
The room was the smallest room I've ever stayed. There was hardly any floor space. The room was big enough to fit two beds, but then after that there was only 5 sq ft, at most, to move around.
Rude UNYIELDING STAFF
no parking, valet for $38, there is a parking lot for $30 overnight and for up tp 24 hrs
Location is good, although just outside the "nice" area around Union Square. Excellent Chinese fish restaurant opposite. Bed was good. Room clean enough although with an "unfinished" look. I suspect it would be hot in summer...Lifts and corridors a bit dirty (typical for such hotels in SF)
the shower never got more than lukewarm. I complained 3 times, to no avail - they said it was "normal". I e-mailed the manager suggesting it was little better than a room in a hostel sharing a bathroom (where at least I would have got a hot shower) and got no reply. Well the staff were polite enough but obviously under orders not to be helpful to complaining guests... Using a laptop the wifi was only usable between midnight and 7 am. The breakfast is extremely basic - worth about $1.50 I would say... But quicker than Starbucks! If the shower had worked it would be reasonable value in the crazy world of San Francisco
Great location and really nice breakfast and room service selections .
The elevator needs agood cleaning out!! Very stinky
Location is somewhat convenient, although starting to get far enough away from Union Square that it's not as nice.
Wifi was barely working for the entire 7-day stay. Room was tiny and had no A/C.
This place was what I expected: clean and no frills. After many busy days, it was great to come back to a quiet room. While I love being able to look out my window and see the view of the city, I appreciated having an interior room that was incredibly quiet. No noisy neighbors = restful night's sleep!
The free breakfast was pretty substandard. I ended up going to Starbucks for coffee and cereal.
Bed and bedding nice for the price point.
Halls were outdated, I use the term putting lipstick on a pig. Layers of old paint covered up with fresh paint. Rooms carpet was drab.
This is very comfortable hotel in downtown SF. It's a little too "techie" "hipstery," but I totally dig it. Clean rooms, spacious, great TV and bed.
The bathrooms were scarce and the towels were low quality but nothing for the price in comparison, great deal.
There were 4 of us, my wife plus two kids, 10 and 15. I've stayed in San Francisco many times and at many different hotels. Our stays are usually long so I opt to spend extra on hotels. This trip we were meeting friends from Germany and they were staying at this hotel, so I booked 1 night here also so we could all be together. The hotel was good, nothing to complain about. Would I stay here again? Probably not. The location was a little seedy for me in the Tenderloin district, but knowing the Tenderloin district, it could have been much worse. The room was adequate for a 1 night stay and they did have valet parking with in n out privilege. They ask for a 30 min window to have your car ready. Anyways, it within walking distance of shopping and Union Square is an easy 10 minute walk. Recommended for the younger couple, or coming into town to party.
Staff were fair
No AC, slightly smelly, elevator is very smelly. They did not post they don't have an AC. High price during the conference days(Exploited people need with high price for low quality hotel)
Everything basic things you need in the hotel room, hairdryer, good WiFi, good bed, ironing possibilities, clean and neat
Small rooms, yet good for someone who does not want to waste time (or money) in a hotel room. Continental breakfast, but yet better that in most London hotels...
The hotel is walking distance to Union Square and there are shops and restaurants close by. There is a bus that stops at the front of the hotel so transport is not really a problem. The staff are very helpful and accommodating.
It is a bit pricey for an old hotel. The room is small. The eating area is located beside the reception so it's an awkward place to eat.
the fact my old next door neighbort used to work there the newest remodel best since building was built...over 100 years ago...still 100 yrs old
the multiple times ive stayed there i have given the person that checked me in the service tag for my dog and the night auditor threatens to charge me 200 dog deposite every time The manager is very rude the fact they took 50 of the 100 dollar deposite becaue i used the coffee pot to let my dog drink rrom
Comfortable bed , the only decent thing in the property
The carpeting looks like it hasn΄t been changed since 1963 . The people at the reception speak to you as if they're doing you a favor ! And they have no idea who's coming in and out of the hotel at night . No idea what so ever !
clean rooms Friendly and helpfull staff All new and shiny Clean and save street Close to everything
Breakfast was really bad, only toast and jelly, yoghurt, banana and a waffel that can hardly be called a waffel.
