Its convenience to the train stattion and the very spacious and comfortable rooms with full kitchen services You should not assign people to rooms that are on the corner of 7th Ave and 31st. The frist night I was in room 506 and the steet sounds (ambulances and fire engines) made the experience for that night intolerable_

Location was good. Evening staff were terrible and not interested in providing appropriate service. We booked the suite. The room was on level 3 and was poorly insulated. the window could not close sufficiently so you can here everything outside. It also does not help that management decide to turn on the generator at 1am. Reception did not bother to pick up the phone when I called. I actually had to get changed and go down to complain. The generator was turned off moments later, but the front desk had no interest whatsoever in moving us or assisting.

The hotel was very central and the accommodation, eventually, (see below) was very pleasant The first night we had a room on either the 5th or the 9th floor and we considered it below the standard we would have expected. It was gloomy, dark with out-of-date decor and it was extremely disappointing as friends had recommended the hotel and we had a long flight from Ireland and it was a trip to celebrate our marriage. We requested a change of room, but we had to pay 100 dollars extra. The second room was on 18th floor, refurbished and very pleasant. However, we felt it was not good customer-relations to place people in a refurbished sub-standard room on the first night and then expect them to pay to upgrade to an acceptable room. In fact, we wondered if this was a scam... So, in summary we had a very mixed experience - the first night was bad and after we paid to upgrade the experience was good.

The location across the street from Penn Station. Our room was recently refurbished. We stayed in one of the studio suites. There is no free wifi, not even in the lobby. Staff didn't go out of their way for anything. The bathroom was super tiny, as was the closet. The kitchen is neat idea but the coffee provided was horrid. The room had two settings for heat: on + off. And when maintenance staff came to our room, they told us to keep the heat on and turn on the air- conditioning. With all the choice in New York, we can definitely stay we'll not be staying at this hotel again.

The lobby is beautiful, the restaurant has nice ambiance and the gym is nice. The bathroom was too small, the decor was outdated in our suite, there was a skunk odor in the hallway.

Great lobby & room ambiance - walking distance from Time Square The hotel has recently completed refurbishing as far as I could see. However we did find it noisy on the 9th floor as far a street noise - it might be near a firestation. Last but not least, drilling noises from the exterior were inquired about and we were told by staff that retrofitting of the entire building would be continuing through 2012. Not really possible to sleep past 7 or 8 am even with earplugs.

The hotel is an ideal location for shoppers with Macy's, cj Penny, Gap, Old Navy, k Mart all in walking distance. Times Sq on the same street and subway close by to all sight seeing attractions. The hotel room was very compact not much storage we worked out of our cases. However, the beds were comfortable and we were out and about most of the time. I would stay at the Affinia again for it's location. Expected more cloths storage and bathroom storage. The room was very compact.

I like everything about this hotel. It is just 5 min from Times Square. And one block from Macys. We were upgraded to a suite when we got to the hotel which was very nice with two bathrooms. Everthing was very clean. And nothing was nothing was to much trouble in the hotel. Staff were very nice. I would not rate there breakfast in the hotel. Waited one morning for half an hour to get breakfast. When we did get receive it we could not eat it as it wasn't nice.

The hotel was modern and comfortable - a good central position to stay in for nyc shopping and downtown trips etc.. There is a police staion on one side of the hotel and a fire station on the other. It was very noisy especially at night with sirens constantly sounding. The noisiest stay I have ever had in nyc and this was my 5th trip.

All great, new renovated room. The friendliest, most wonderful staff I ever encountered in NY, highly professional. Wireless worked with no problem, but there is a charge of about $15/day. The room was extremely loud even for NY, and there was an overwhelming smell of cleaning fluids. Also, you cannot open the windows and the air conditioner was extremely old.

The staff at the hotel was very helpful and willing to answer any questions for you. The room was spacious and fit our family comfortably. The hotel had a 4 star rating but was not at all a 4 star hotel. The hotel needs to be updated to be up at the top. The room was clean but for the price it wasn't worth the money spent.

the location of Affinia Manhattan was excellent. This was the main reason why we booked at this hotel. The size of the rooms were very good for a family travelling together. It's really value for money. But unfortunately, the hotel is extremely old and needs refurbishing badly. The furnishings are outdated and have seen better days. The appliances, as well, need to be changed. The beddings were alright but the towels were thiin and need to upgraded. The bathroom, especially, needs to be remodelled into a more modern look. The carpet in the room is old and looks unclean. We didn't want to walk around barefoot. The aircondition was still a window-type model. I would like to see this hotel upgrade it's interiors and maximize it's location by offereing it's guests upgraded service.

Enjoyed the stay, but the room was very old fashion. The plus side is the hotel is having a refurbishment which I am told will take 2 years. The location is superb near Macy's,Empire state building and many other architecture, shoping and museums sights. Please remember all the New York taxes on top of the hotel price.

I've stayed many times at this same location when it was the Southgate Hotel. The hotel has been transformed. The rooms, which were always roomy, have been refurbished and are very pleasant and clean. The public areas are really attractive, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I will stay at the Affinia Manhattan whenever I need to stay in Manhattan.

Excellent location for midtown business meetings, clean, comfortable, nicely designed room; friendly and helpful staff; good shopping nearby; near many subway lines Hot water was not super hot; can hear some city and traffic noises. Didn't bother me at all, but some might be more sensitive.

Stuff was very friendly, willing to answer to any question of us, very polite. Location was excellent . Next to the subway station and to a taxi place. Spatius room Extremely noisy! The hotel is next to a fire station and even though we were at the 16th floor the sirens were very loud at night. Thanks God we were very tired and we could sleep some hours. The bathroom was very small ( but the room was disproportionaly quite big) The bed sheets were not changed for 7 days ( only they were tide up)

Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Location allowed easy access to the many sights and shops in Manhattan. Great place to stay for the price! Some of the typical offerings that you would expect from other hotels were not in our hotel room: pen and paper, shower cap, shoe kits. Not a big deal, but on this trip would have been helpful for us.

The location was great and the desk staff was friendly and efficient. I like having a separate living and bedroom but this Affinia has much smaller rooms than the other Affinia's I've stayed in. The bed was very comfortable. The price was very reasonable, maybe because of the construction. Construction was going on during our stay. Even though it was exterior work the banging went on until 6:00 pm and started at 8:00 am even on Saturday. I think that information should be made available to you before booking. Also, there was a party going on in the room next to ours with loud laughing and screaming unit 4:45 am Saturday morning. We called the desk at 1:00 am and asked if they could do anything but other than a 15 minute reprieve in the sound level the partying continued and elevated again. Needless to say this was not a very relaxing stay. The first room we were given had one double bed. My husband and I are not small people and this would have been very tight. When I made the reservation it showed we would have two queens. I called the desk and asked if they had any other rooms with a bigger bed and they did change our room to one king, which was fine. We have stayed in almost every other Affinia in nyc and this one did not meet the quality we are used to. The rooms are much smaller and the hotel over all has a dirty feel to it even though they apparently just updated the rooms. I love the Affinia chain but will never stay at this one again.

The location was great - right near Penn Plaza. The doorman were very helpful. And it was great to have a laundryroom on site. The room was small and yet it was almost impossible to get the temperature anywhere near comfortable - it took hours for the heat to kick up, then it went into overdrive. The front desk staff is nice but not very thorough so you have to return to them or someone else to get complete information. And if you need to call guest services, be prepared to wait.

Overall, we thought the hotel was excellent. On our arrival, we were not happy with the room (it was very cold). We rang the desk and asked for a another room - they were very apologetic and were more than happy to give us a different room. Our experience of the staff were excellent, they were more than happy to help us.

The location is right in the center of the midtown, 1 block from Penn station and other transit. Close to Macys, Empire State Building, Time Square. Nice lobby, helpful staff, clean rooms recently redesigned. The price was good off weekend (not on weekend) and when booked well in advance, and non refundable. Our first room was on an exterior corner and the noise from the street was very loud, even from the 19th floor since there were no double windows. A busy district with echos and sirens. The staff responded well, changed us the next day and we were happier. Also, the rooms are nice but small, as expected in the city, but these are small enough that we didn't have much room to have our suitcases open nor store clothes.
