Score from 465 reviews Very good
In the heart of downtown Houston, steps from major attractions, restaurants and businesses, this private club-like hotel features contemporary accommodations with many of today's modern conveniences.

Featuring on-site dining options, this Houston hotel is within a 10-minute walk of the Galleria shopping center.
Score from 123 reviews Excellent
This downtown Houston hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to surrounding destinations, including the Toyota Center and the theater district.
Score from 73 reviews Wonderful
Friendly front desk staff. Comfortable bed and pillows. Nice bathroom with great shower
Although hotel itself is well kept the lots around the hotel are less than desirable.
Great restaurants and bars (prohibition) within walking distance, as well as discovery green. The hotel also has a free shuttle that takes people within a 3 mile radius.
Location was a little in the ghetto part of downtown, but never felt unsafe.
nice staff, clean room and very well decorated, overall very pleasant experience
neighboring properties were less than desirable, no vending machines on property, no restaurants around this area open late, hotel bar said open until 2:00 a.m. it was closed when we got back to hotel shortly after midnight, so plan on getting food & drinks before you head back to hotel after a night out on the town unless willing to pay outlandish prices for a bottle water or snacks in room!
Very good location to everything downtown. Veryclean, great facilities. Really nice bathrooms
The breakfast was a little skimpy but not too much too complain about
We had our sons wedding at the hotel. We are the Grooms parents...The bed was comfortable & wedding went well!
Our room had silly string on walls & curtain. The glass on picture had something smeared on it? The shower leaked all over the floor every time, even though closed.
Beautiful room, comfortable bed, within walking distance of many downtown nightlife destinations. And the wife LOVED the tub..
Parking is kind of a pain and the blinds in our room had just enough space to let the sun shine right in our eyes at about 8:30 a.m.
The Sam is a real find. It's less expensive than other first-class downtown hotels, but boasts large, ultra-modern rooms; ours had two flat-screen TVs. Service was outstanding—a front desk concierge was always present, extremely friendly, and ready to help with transit arrangements, dining suggestions, and sightseeing advice. The Sam's also super-convenient to the rail line, and the Museum District is only a few stops away. I'd definitely stay again!
Very small quibbles only: Times for the breakfast service listed in the room guide are inaccurate. The hotel gym also has a mostly mismatched collection of free weights; the only dumbbell pairs I could find were 15's and 45's.
Bed was super comfy, staff was very friendly and professional, decor was very fun...kind of retro and modern...eclectic
the parking was like $28, which i did not expect since i was a guest. Valet was nice though.
The suite was nice.
Inside staff. Very unconcerned and unfriendly.
The room was clean
The parking/valet was a nightmare... When we got there, the valet looked at us as if we were in the wrong place... had me take all my bags out and then proceed to ask if I needed help. The nightmare was the next morning... granted it was New Year's Day, the texting system to get your car does not work.. We came downstairs to see 20 people waiting for their car. 10 minutes later, the unfriendly valet brings a nice Audi around the corner and the whole passenger side is completely smashed in. The family who owned the car was extremely surprised and tried to handle the situation peacefully but the valet was unresponsive and realistically did not care. It was handled terribly, they were very rude and it took 45 minutes to get my car that I paid $30 to have valeted. I would not reccommend this hotel to anyone, as nice as the rooms were, the parking/valet situation had enough impact to never have my business again.
Over priced. Valet damaged a guests car while I was there
Location, shuttle, clean sheets!!
Bathroom floor looked dirty, pillows were uncomfortable.
Location, spacious room años bathroom, wifi works properly
Breakfast could be included in the price room
Cleanliness and comfort.
I do not have anything really to point out.
Rooms nice and updated. Shuttle was nice car, didn't have to load into a van with a bunch if other people. Quick response time.
No convenient parking!!!! Had to pay $28 for valet parking. The policeman or security out front during busy time, blowing whistle, didn't give you time to get in or out of parking spaces after 6pm.
You could have been in London swank or New York hip. Just had a really good vib, all the staff ready to help, nice boutique style accom and made a perfect stop off before flying out. Did not eat here as the restaurant is closed on a Sunday but locals we met said it is very good.
Nothing really annoyed so nothing to add, why knit pick I say!
Welcome Location Speedy resolution of a couple of issues
Loud music from a wedding party - but we were warned and given a top-floor room, and it did not go on very late
A beautiful hotel with an energetic and helpful staff. Our stay was so great. The hotel was hip, clean, and in a great location to other things in the downtown area. Great job Sam, and I can't wait to stay again.
great location, friendly service, very nice building
Super rooms, super wifi, and DT location. Great value and would come back again.
Front desk staff couldn't have been more helpful; bar staff also friendly and gave good advice for drinks and food - the fish tacos were perfect!
Waitress in the main restaurant needed more training; make sure you're not on the 2nd floor - The Sam has many functions and they are constantly moving tables and chairs to accommodate them - they are stored on the 2nd floor and on two occasions were moved early in the morning and after midnight.
I loved everything! The only reason I would give it a poor rating would be to make sure it would not be completely booked so I could alway get a reservation.
Close to minute maid park
no vending machines
The hotel is modern and comfortable and is reasonably well placed for a range of restaurants on Main Street. Most of the staff are helpful and pleasant.
The area in which the hotel is situated seemed to be a rendezvous for street people. There were at least twenty sleeping rough on the corner opposite the hotel. The 'valet' parking at $28 consisted of the driver picking up the car at the entrance and driving it 30 yards, turning the corner onto some void land between the hotel and the next building and then leaving it in the open. On the second morning the police were in attendance as one unfortunate 'valet' parking customer had had his car broken into during the night whilst in the 'care' of the parking staff. The major problem with this hotel is its restaurant in the evening (it's fine for breakfast) which is sterile in atmosphere and grossly overpriced for the quality of the food which it serves. Whilst my wife and I were dining (c$130 for two entree's, two desserts - selected from an extremely short menu - one glass of wine and one beer), a family of four came in, sat down, read the menu and then left and took a cab to go and eat somewhere else - my wife and I wished we had been able to join them. Service was slow as there was only one member of staff on duty - we had to chase up our drinks. There was a group of four/five people who were having a taster session ahead of a wedding and they were clearly more important than us as immediate customers.
