Score from 35 reviews Wonderful
location was fabulous, close to times square, fifth Ave, The Rockefeller Centre. Very relaxed atmosphere.
When it came time to pay the bill they added 3 taxes (city tax, street tax and a third for the construction of a new state building!!) which added about 30% more per night to the cost of the hotel. Very unexpected. The drinks were also very expensive with the cheapest glass of wine US$20 per glass. Then you need to add a tip!
The convenience factor, the friendly and helpful staff and, of course the Algonquin ambience (including the cat) were all things that gave us pleasure.
We stayed for 3 nights with our young children - hotel is perfectly located to explore New York and just a short walk from Times Square. Very comfortable, good food and really enjoyed our stay.
The location. That is literally the only thing this hotel offers.
The staff were argumentative, dismissive, not helpful, misinformed, and largely unhappy in general. Every single staffer with the exception of the bellhop, and the rooms manager were terrible. Do not stay here. For 500/night this staff ruined my Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. The bed was hard as a rock, the heater ticked and knocked, there is no complimentary anything including breakfast nor coffee. The soaps smell like Spick n span, the views are terrible from both my queen bed on the 6th, and my upgrade to a king on the 10th. By the second night I was exhausted from uncomfortability and dismissiveness of the staff I just dealt with it. I never post reviews like this. I am a project manager who is 34, so I'm relatively inexperienced at stays in high end hotels. But I've stayed at several in the city that for my money make the Algonquin pale in comparison. I urge you all, think twice about th his place.
My husband & I spent the weekend at the Algonquin for our anniversary. We had a beautiful suite at an amazing rate. The room was spotless, bed so comfortable it was hard to want to leave. The staff was amazing--helpful, friendly & extremely accommodating. Service was impeccable. Can't wait to go back!
Told us fee for driver service was flat rate 50$. When we got to airport it was 62$.
We called them to cancel the booking and didn't check in, but they still charged us . Though they could charge one day , they charged with tax ! They should not do that! Asked booking.com to help us refund tax , but till now no any response .
Loved the art deco details in the room and bathroom, very comfortable bed, and most of all loved soaking in the amazing literary history of the place. Loved the witty quotes from Dorothy Parker and her "vicious circle" on the room doors, the photos and murals throughout the building, and being at the birthplace of The New Yorker -- doesn't get more "New York" than that. The location is amazing -- easy to walk and take the subway all over Manhattan and beyond -- and close to Broadway shows, delicious restaurants, shops and people watching. A delight!
The heater in our room was confusing / not working properly at first, resulting in a couple cold nights -- but the problem was resolved by the end of our stay. Otherwise the room was very cozy!
Location, staff and sense of history was terrific. Enjoyed seeing Miranda the cat.
staff was great
room was on the small side
This was a special occasion return trip after many years. Some of the old Algonquin ambiance has been retained. The lobby still is a desirable spot to sit and enjoy a cocktail as the world passes by.
Food and service in the RoundTable Restaurant were disappointing and overpriced. The outsized sketch murals of the RoundTable crowd in the lobby are tacky and unnecessary.
Friendly and helpful staff great location modern room
The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and act like they enjoy their job. The doormen are the best I've seen.
There was only one elevator operating during a portion of my stay making it inconvienient. Also I should have been warned about the impact the may's parade would have on my checking out. We had to delay by several hours.
I loved the feel around the Algonquin. Th.e staff were very friendly The location and of course "Matilda" the cat
The small bedrooms. The traffic noise in the night but you just have to accept that its like that in NYC
Well located historical hotel for Fifth and Times Square. Staff very helpful ... free wifi and tea & coffee always available in reception.
Room a bit small ....and aircon system sounded like a truck had started up when it switched on !
This hotel is so perfectly situated in the heart of New York, The staff were so helpful and willing to assist with all queries. The décor and cleanliness was exceptional.
Level of service - had to call 3 times for every request Suite was not the one we booked
We like the location and the history of the hotel. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Algonquin Hotel, my parents honeymooned there 61 years ago! The staff is always very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is delightful, and the rooms are clean, comfortable and beautiful! We plan on making this a yearly trip.
1. The Round Table was a pathetic joke. 2. I was charged over $70 for a ten minute international call which should have been one dollar per minute. This made the visit stink.
Staff were charming Check in was quick and easy Room was good and clean if a little small.
The prices. It was all very expensive
Very comfortable. Friendly staff.
Excellent location, well appointed room & lounge/restaurant, excellent staff, great cocktails, generally a very good 'New York boutique hotel experience'
Room was small with very small bathroom. No fridge or coffee making facilities. Coffee was available but five floors down & sometimes the (also very small) lift took a few minutes
Every thing was excellent and the staff was awsom
