I loved Helen. This as our first trip. I did not realize the amount of shops closed during the off season (end of January) However, We still had a really good time. Loved how quaint. ALL of the people were friendly. My favorites on this trip was Heidelberg, Hancel and Gretel candy. And then we topped the evening off over at Bettys across the street on the patio with some really , really tasty beer. The people and the bar tenders were so friendly. It seemed like we were all friends for a long time.

Don’t come to Helen when it is raining.
Don’t come to Helen when it is raining. And, there is not much going on in January other than the Christmas decorations are still up. There are some nice restaurants but they are all pretty expensive (over $40 for two sandwiches at lunch). All the shops downtown are way over priced, as I have seen better quality in some junk stores. We didn’t buy anything - just window shopped. The little park on the hill is nice and there is some free parking there. Almost all other parking is paid, traffic is awful and cops are everywhere anxious to issue tickets.

Helen is a quint German themed town with interesting shops and eateries. You can park and walk around to most of the stores. Some of the stores further away from the town centre are too far to walk, but there is plenty to keep you busy for at least day. A river runs through town which offers tubing and other facilities in summer. We visited over the Christmas weekend Dec2023 and the lights on display were beautiful and magical. We returned for this reason. On the town square musicians were playing Christmas music and other themed entertainment were provided. The town and restaurants closed by 6pm on Christmas eve, which was unexpected but it added to that wonderful feeling that Christmas was sacred. So be aware that only one or two restaurants were open late for dinner. We attended the Christmas Eve Communion Service at the Helen Presbyterian Church. This was special. It was a rainy evening but the lights all over town were magical and being so quiet it gave enough time to look at the lights a few times. Overall Helen is worth a visit for a weekend. Do not miss the Christmas lights.

Alpine Helen is a picturesque, authentic German town, which made me feel like I had crossed the Atlantic and gone right back to Germany!! It has several excellent German restaurants, wonderful shopping, and all the charm of Europe in its German architecture. We loved every minute of our time there at the Christkindlmarkt!! We also enjoyed Hardman Farm’s Victorian Christmas, a hike to gorgeous Anna Ruby Falls, and Babyland (all very close to Helen)!

I have been to Helen many times and always enjoy my time there. There is always something new to do, something new to see, and always always waterfalls to hike ranging in trails from beginner to expert. There is also a good range of restaurants from fast food to formal. Book a hotel room downtown on the main street and you can easily walk to most restaurants and shops.
We stayed at Heidi and walked everywhere in downtown Helen, GA. A grocery store right across the street and restaurants 1/8 mile away. Plus a unique toy store. Check in has a small gift shop. There was a coffee pot, microwave nice Tv and a larger dorm size fridge. Room had small table and two chairs, plus larger chair and bed. Lighting and room needed some TLC. Plus, parking was probably one car per room as they gave you a parking pass. But location was perfect. Cheaper then other hotels.
The beds were clean and comfortable enough. The room was clean and no sign of bugs (which I have heard is a common issue with many of the hotels in Helen). Great looking television if you end up stuck in the room like we were due to the rain. Parking was sufficient. Staff was very friendly. Like most people, I had a few issues/complaints, but nothing serious and nothing that would keep me from going back or recommending to anyone else.
Everything with the house was excellent. The open floor plan, large bedrooms, and especially the screened in porch in the back that included a fireplace, TV, and hot tub. We had no issues getting in the house when we arrived, and the owner was very quick to respond to the couple of questions that we had.
Excellent hotel in an excellent location. A few miles from downtown Helen Ga. Hiking trails near by. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Friendly reception staff. Very knowledgeable check out staff, knew all about the surrounding area.
My unit was very clean even considering old stuffs, the beds are comfortable, the space is big with full kitchen and laundry. The location is excelent... it's a very good option to save money and enjoy a comfortable room.
The service was excellent, the reception was very good, Hanna is super polite and helpful, we loved her, the breakfast was excellent, the room very clean, helpful staff, we will return without a doubt.
Leaving. Seriously. However, there was plenty of hot water, heat pump worked great, and was a spacious room for an old hotel. Loved being in Helen, Georgia.
Excellent staff very friendly. The apple pancakes for breakfast were freshly made and tasted delicious. Over all a great place to stay in downtown Helen
