Noisy, unkempt and old
Loved that this hotel has been there since childhood. Was very sad to find out it was sold and would be no longer. Seems like one of the last good old fashioned hotels that actually had a lounge and resturant. It will be gravely missed. The employees were sad but still on their toes and were genuine in their sense of loss.
The continental breakfast was very poor
Close to Old Town San Diego. Near restaurants and shopping. Close to airport.
The area is our favorite and we dont like hoity toity place. This place is great for a night away.
Stained sheets lack of breakfast every time we have stayed.
The ad on booking.con was false advertising it was nothing like it no restaurant or bar the pool was full of duck poop carpet so dirty it ruined my socks, will never go again! Will tell everyone not 2 go!!!!!!! They should be sued also I should get my money back!
Unfortunately, the only thing I liked about this hotel is the location. Might be the place of choice for relatively fair price if you need to stay not far from the Old Town or travel without a car.
Almost everything. Really the worst place I've ever stayed at although I'm not a sophisticated traveller. I had a weekend trip devoted to my birthday, and this place was quite a bad present for me. The room was poorly equipped (no fridge, but they write that there is one in room details!), had really old furniture (especially bed, I was expecting it to break every time I turned from one side to another), and the noise outside made me crazy. I heard everything: cars, voices, people from adjacent rooms walking, laughing etc. It seems there was not any sound isolation at all. The breakfast was poor: coffee, apples and muffins. That's it. People almost fighted with each other to take the last muffin. Right after the breakfast I came back to my room and found out that the door was opened. Then a housemaid appeared, she stood up smiling to me and pretending that everything was just fine. I was shocked that she left the door open, anybody could enter and take anything he/she wanted. I was supposed to check out in 30 minutes and she had no idea about that trying to clean the room as if I would stay there longer. I can't explain why this hotel has a relatively high rating, maybe I was completely unlucky that day. The last thing I want to mention is that they charged me $30 more when I checked in without any explanation. While checking out I asked about that and a young lady told me it was a security deposit and promised it would return in some days. It really did but I don't understand why it was so difficult to tell me all the details in the first place.
Even though I had a late check in they were very accommodating.
The beds are not comfortable they need to be replaced with newer ones and the furniture was out dated.
According to our credit card company, i was charged twice for the hotel. After telling the manager told me he didnt know my room # and he didnt want to go through the trouble of looking it up. So i walked back to my room and when i got back (30 seconds later) he was waiting on someone else and i had to wait another 15 minutes to figure out why he charged me twice. Finally i got pissed and walked away and at checkout he lied and said it never happened. And sure enough the charge was off. But luckily we printed out the original and he finally admitted he had reversed the charge. All this trouble could have been saved, had he apologized and reversed it in the first place.
needs new carpet
Walking distance to old town
Furnished needs some serious upgrading.
Front desk people seemed very professional and nice. Room was ok for the money.
Garbage cans and cigarette butt ash trays outside of rooms where people congregate all night and talk, laugh, etc. My toilet had a leak, and it was like water torture all night. No A/C.
Good location, five minutes to trolley.
Poor and outdated room facilities and decoration. Poor breakfast. Poor noise insulation between rooms.
Pool unusable, full of dirt, leaves, and junk. Rooms were filthy, could not walk on carpet with bare feet or socks, turned your feet black. Towels were like paper, thin. Refrigerator did not work. Lampshade had spots, like someone had been sick on them. No bedspreads on beds, pillows thin and lumpy. Outdoors trashcans were overflowing with trash. Cigarette butts all over the place. Was DISGUSTING
The high tech door key worked perfectly every time and without hesitation.
The complimentary breakfast was hardly worth fooling with. They had tables and seating galore but a tiny little food station with meager selection. Not yet sure, but they may try to charge me double for my stay. We will see.
The rooms were terrible. The carpet was so sticky. The first room that was told "CLEANED" looked like a frat party gone wild. The second room I was moved to was "picked up" the carpet was as sticky and stained. Bathroom door warped, dirty walls, drawer missing,Bed skirt was beyond dirty looking, sheet had a stain that was weird. Even the sodas in vending machines were flat. While some of the guests I saw seemed "normal" there was a large amount of loud drinking outside the room. I only stayed a few hours and left. What seemed "normal" was that the desk person didn't seem shocked I was leaving...hummm I guess Im not the only one not happy?
Location is very good. Close to old town San Diego.
Hotel is showing its age. Needs major remodeling.
I like the bed ,the lamp,
The tv...it should have been a flat screen
Add of rooms on the web very difrent of the one that we stay in.breakfast terrible.staf ignoring guests. Realy disappointed whit our stay in this plase
Great location to visit Old Town!!!
Location for old town SD is excellent. Request for upstairs, quit & non-smoking room always granted. Great for for coffee, morning muffens. Nice walk to old town for breakfast.
The inside of the rooms are nice.
The areas outside the rooms are all dirty. The staff is very rude over all. The air and the heater in the rooms don't work well at all. The rates are way to high. On my second visit I arrived to check in after midnight. They charged my card as thou I didn't show up. Then when I did arrive they charged me again. One visit they ran two different credit cards. I had to find it days later and make them fix it.
near old town
the property needs updating and remodernising Comp. breakfast finished early nothing left with 1/2 hr. to go.
Is probably the most convenient and economical place at Old Town, San Diego. Bathroom was in much better shape than on our last visit. Will stay there again. This time the room had a microwave and a fridge.
Parking spaces are real narrow. Be sure that you don,t take the first exit from I-8 north.
