Hallway wall covering looks new but the carpet is old and shabby, as in the elevator.
Main thing missing is a luggage rack (even a collapsible one would have sufficed). There is ample room for it, say under the big mirror in the room.
Bed sheets are rough (lots of pillings) which is surprising because the pillowcases are new and smooth.
Bathroom was clean and newly retiled but they did not do the caulking around the floor – it was cracking and looks shabby. Also, no exhaust fan so mirrors mist up.
Great location at 50th St. W between 8th Ave. and Broadway, across from Gershwin Theatre (where Wicked was showing) and Circle in the Square Theatre (where Fun Home was showing. BTW, a great musical worthy of its Tony win for Best Musical 2015). Very convenient – there is a Food Emporium right around the corner at 49th and 8th Ave for fresh fruits, drinks and snacks.
Surprisingly quiet – my room was on the 6th floor, facing 50th St. I requested a room away from elevators and on a higher floor and I got it (the hotel has 7 floors).
Room was clean and spacious and has a queen bed. Looks like room has been recently redone – wall coverings, carpets, curtains, room furnishings and bathroom retiled.
Aircon is window unit – it could have been noisy but I find that if I set it halfway between Cool and Cooler and set the fan to low that it is just a very tolerable hum.
Staff are pleasant and efficient. Quick check-in and check-out. Also, I arrived around 12:30pm and my room was ready, so very convenient that I can rest a bit before scooting across the street to see Fun Home. They also have luggage storage.
