Good value for money, really good location, including breakfast.

The staff had some trouble with other guests when I checked in and it made me have to wait quite long.

I have to pay upfront for the full duration of the stay. They have what I thought was an unreasonable policy that they would not refund even partially in spite of my decision to check out 3 days into what was supposed to be a 10 day stay. So I moved out on the 3rd day but did not check out since they refused to return even half the money. As a student that was almost half of what I spend on food for a month. The manager is very hard to get a hold of! He only seems to come to the office for 3-4 hours a day and whenever I was there he was not there. So I eventually gave up all hope of even talking about getting a partial refund for the remaining days of my booking. The staff warned me anyway that the manager would not even be reasoned with, so there would be no point in speaking with him regarding the possibility of a refund even though I was leaving a full 7 days before my stated checkout date. There is also not enough heating for sf winters. The rooms were chilly.

worst hostel i have ever stayed. It was only one heating unit, so all ppl had to sleep with clothes. Staff wasn't friendly. Had to pay even for printing couple pages. For breakfast pancakes all the time. Better stay in motel and avoid this hostel

Staff is very responsive. I'm very grateful. Good bathrooms and everyday cleaning. Excellent location of the hostel and comfortable beds.

The thing that you should do your breakfast - pancakes - by yourself is strange. But on another side it is quite funny and I like pancakes, so I'm not sure that I didn't like it.

It was the worst hostel I ever been. I booked private room which supposed to be the best they have. It was extremely noisy so, I asked changing my room to another one. for breakfast it was quite funny because they provide the dough for pan cake and you should cook it yourself. Regarding the staff, some were good and some bad.However,it was not cheap and it didn't worth the money.I don't recommend this hostel to anyone.

Excellent location - close to Chinatown and Union square. Amsterdam hostel is a great deal for people looking for cheap accommodation.

Stuff is really unfriendly - the only thing they really care is a payment. The kitchen is terrible - especially a fridge. It looks like they have never clean it.

Cleanliness, sharing the room with a drunk guy, the breakfast is just coffee and pancakes that we have to make ourselves.

The price

The location is great, and the service quite decent. It is clean enough.. I also liked the atmosphere.

During first days the wifi internet was impossibly slow. Also, i struggled with the shower, to get the water to come from the upper fawcet. The eventual price was more than what the booking promised.

Position

The smell, it stinks. Lockers are mostly broken, I had to test 2 before find one which was working. I sent a message to the hotel using booking but I never get back an answer.

Nice bathrooms with every room; rooms are pretty spacy; hostel provides both bed linnens and towels.

Price varies per person, per employee, per how good you are at haggling I guess. Hostel is cheaper when booking through their own website. Lower portion of Taylor street (near Market street) is a bit shady, but the two/three blocks around the hostel are okay (I did feel safe there).

Clean pillow case, sheet and shower room, and free breakfast.

Very friendly staff; as a single older lady, I felt safe and comfortable with other guests as well as coming into hostel later in evening, 11pm. Thanks for the great value!

It's location is perfect for those traveler who loved to see the city downtown. Its near to almost everything and convenient to all transportation. The staff and all nice although they aren't as friendly as other hotel peeps but they don't show you any kind of attitude and offers you all the help and info you need. My room is 4 persons sharing with 1 bathroom inside the room. It was clean and the bed has no bed bugs! If you travel alone and comes to sharing with strangers of course you have to deal with your roommates tidiness and noise w/c I believe is my only problem during my stay however that doesn't really changed my impression of the hostel as it is beyond their control and inevitable. :)

the price stated online by booking.com is not the same as the hotel actual rates. Its like 10 - 20 bucks more not including the tax yet.

Everything was either fair or good for the price, honestly. I would recommend it. Plus, it has a really good airport shuttle for a small price (it has to be booked in advance)!

The only thing that could be improved was the condition of the place. It certainly needs maintenance, refurnishing and so on, but it didn't ruin my stay since I was staying for 2 nights.

Great position

Very expensive, there was not the breakfast but I had paid, quite dirty.

Great location, antique furniture, lots of charm and character. We stayed in a room, but lots of hostelers from all over the world to meet in common rooms.

There were some run down parts, broken window in the hallway, toilet seat the wrong size, but for the price we didn't expect perfection.

I very much enjoyed the location, the employees, and the other guest.

The refrigerator in the room was so loud I had to unplug it to sleep (my yogurt was bad by morning). The bed was very hard, and unbalanced. The shower was like showering under a low pressure garden hose (I had to take a bath instead).

Nothing! I will never reccomend this place to anyone!

It was dirty! Uncomfortable and looked like a floop house! The staff was for the most part, uncaring, unhelpfull and in some cases, useless. If a guest had any isues with their room or roommates, they seemed to go out of their way to let you know, and as quoted by randy, the office manager, "This is a hostel. Guest are on their own here, and we do not get involved with issues in your room or roommates. You must must find a way to deal with this on your own. " and, If your are disabled in any way what so ever, they do not care, and they have no problem in stressing that point-like-I have parkinson'S. My room was a dorm. Only top bunks were left. There were now ladders in the rooms to get to the top bunk! They made it painfully clear, they just didn't give a damn!

Their kitchen, laundry room, tv room and wifi are really great. The mattresses are new and clean.

The staff could have explained better how the breakfast and laundry worked when I checked in the hostel. The showers were not hot enough.

Pancakes in the morning were great. I also appreciated that I could store my luggage in a locked room after I checked out. Sheets were clean.

Staff seemed very disorganised. I was originally booked into a mixed 4 person dorm, and asked to change to a 6 bed female dorm which was no problem. However when I went up to the room, there were no obviously available beds (they either had used sheets still on the bed, or bags next to the bed). I went back down to reception and the gentleman moved me back to the 4 person dorm. However, there were still no obviously available beds (all had sheets on them and looked like they were being used). Fortunately 2 guests were already in the room and knew which beds were occupied. Considering that all this was at 10:30pm, and every move involed lugging about 30kg of luggage up and down several flights of stairs, I was not impressed. I would recommend this hostel to other travellers, but only just.
