Greetings, and thank you for your interest in Chicago Getaway Hostel! Our hostel was built in 1928, as part of the Eleanor Foundation here in Chicago. In the 1920's our building provided low-cost and safe accommodations to women entering the workforce in Chicago. Nearly 84 years later, we're still offering affordable accommodations to guests from around the world. We officially became Chicago Getaway Hostel in October of 2009, and a brand new identity was formed at our top-rated hostel!

Men's bathroom are just on one side of the building and we had a private room on the other.
Hostel building and facilities are high quality. Staff is helpful. Location is great.
Old building, sometimes a bit noisy. Very basic rooms.
Located not too far from downtown Chicago. Clean.
the bathrooms had not been cleaned for 3 days. I am going to the emergency room to make sure I did not catch anything
The room was really small (I didn't mind much as I was travelling alone). You hear everything your neighbours say! Which can be pretty annoying if their children are up at 5 a.m. or the guys next doors decide at 3 a.m. to listen to some music. There is almost no space for your stuff, except for the tiny and almost unaccessible closet - there should be at least a small shelf to put your keycard/wallet/small stuff on.
The breakfast was pretty nice (make your own waffles was funny) and the staff was friendly. I loved the neighbourhood! It is really close to the lake and the lakefront trail. There's a myriad of good restaurants and coffee shops close by. The rooms was absolutely clean and the bed was soft but really comfy.
The people in the kitchen - nice
I was five minutes late for breakfast one morning and I couldn't get anything.
If your room faces the street, you hear all the drunk interactions of smokers on the front stoop ...yep, you can hear and can smell all. Between that and the ignorant group that kept moving their beds around, metal frames sliding across non-carpeted floors at 2 a.m.!!! Fun stuff! Front desk personnel did not do anything. Actually went to my vehicle and slept for 2 hours before returning back to get ready for my flight. $97.00 paid for a private room for 3 hours of sleep in my own vehicle---overpriced!!! Perhaps taking all guests over 21 on a Pub Crawl is not a good idea if your staff cannot manage the guests misbehavior.
Location is awesome. It's in a great neighborhood.
Confortable room, events proposed like a blues concert, nice breakfast, nice neighborhood
Breakfast, bed, noise during late night hours
Cleanliness, staff, location, price
Location was perfect - close to several attractions (zoo, museums etc) and plenty of choice of places to eat. Everyone was very friednly and helpful.
Staff were never really knew what they were talking about. Asked how to get places or what we should see and they were never very clear. Large group checked in on our 2nd night and were very loud, complained to staff and they said there was nothing they could do. 15 min walk to train for a 20 min train into town
wifi and printer was good. lots of showers and bathrooms. tv room was quiet.
The walls are quite thin so it can get a little noisy at night with groups of young travellers talking really loud along the walkway.
Arrived early due to a morning flight and staff was very helpful even though a room was not available for us. We could help ourselves to the sumptuous breakfast and stored our bags before heading out to explore!
Don't get a top bunk, very loud and shakes a lot
Very friendly and helpful staff
The only thing is the bedrooms isn't so beautiful, but is a nice place.
we like all the share spaces, the bathroom is clean and organized.
Hostel very spacious. It was really busy while we were there. met many people from all over the world. Staff very helpful and friendly. Separate TV room. Excellent free breakfast.
The shared bathrooms were not tidy at all, I noticed that they did not clean the toilets not once all week. Disgusting.
The breakfast was very good, oatmeal, toast, bagels and fruit every day and every other day scrambled eggs and waffles. The staff is very nice and helpful, you could also purchase tickets to sightseeing stuff cheaper from them and use computers in the lobby for free! The location was good, the area is safe and the hostel is only ten minutes away from the subway.
One of the staff members was a creep. He insulted one of the musicians we were going to see and lied about being a new member of the staff there when I remember him the past 2 times I've been there...really weird. The price was expensive for not having a restroom in your room or even more than one bed...
The location is perfect! You get to meet awesome people from around the world. The staff for the most part is nice and the rooms are clean. Parking should be cheaper...
I was not a fan of the bunk beds
The price for parking was ridiculous. I know its Chicago but, there were only three cars ( because it's a hostel) and it was the same price as anywhere else. You shouldn't have to pay$28 for parking when you are sharing a shower.
the bunk bed shakes when someone does a movement. It's difficult to sleep well.
Good breakfast and events. Good people and atendants
Bathrooms were not cleaned regularly. They were shared shared so hygiene was an issue!
Everything but the cleanliness!
Bed wasn't super comfortable, but was a good size for two people. Boyfriend would have liked more privacy in the bathrooms (shower stall within another stall, like in the women's showers).
Very well located near public transit and plenty of places to walk to. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Shared bathrooms were clean and good quality. Free Wifi was great.
A little bit of walk from the station.
It's clean! I stayed in a private room. Except that you share bathroom with others, it's almost like a hotel. Well, not quite. But it's very nice. Clean. Quiet neighborhood.
The heating system is REALLY noisy in my room and I cannot close it because in the winter I'll be freezing if there's no heat in the room. Also, it is not like a hostel but a hotel instead. Too many rooms and there's seldom chances to meet friends.
Cheap, good breakfast (I love the hand-made pancake!). The place is really close to Lincoln Park and a lot of great restaurants. Walking from the metro station takes just 10 minutes-- not a long walk!
