Very homey Nice staff Good facilities Very accommodating
Iffy wi fi Better lighting in rooms
Location was really great, not so far from the transport, the place is safe at night.
They have group activities and really encourage guests to communicate. There is a lot of open space to roam about.
The parking is a nightmare! The elevator is also a nightmare. Several people will be walking around barefoot so do bring shower shoes.
The staff was very helpful, and there were always people around in the common areas so it is very easy to get to know people.
nothing not expected from a hostel (a little bit of noise from neighboring rooms...).
Great staff who gave a warm welcome, strong WiFi and very clean. Good communal areas too.
Bedding was a little basic/tired.
1. Breakfast was an unexpected surprise--ample, great waffles, nice chance to chat with other travelers, a friendly international lot, happy to share their experiences and recommendations. 2. Very accommodating staff. 3. Facilities: laundromat in the building was a big plus, free computer usage with a printer, plus lots of spacious common areas to meet and enjoy other travelers. This was exceedingly enjoyable, and helpful. Although I didn't take advantage of it there were evening mixer type activities to encourage interaction--a terrific idea. 3. Location easily accessible by mass transit (six or seven blocks to the train), not in the center but in a lovely residential neighborhood close to DePaul Univ. The walk to the train was beautiful and enjoyable.
1. Beds not very comfortable. One could not sit up in bed without the flimsy mattress sliding off of the frame. Not set up for reading in bed. It is just a place to sleep: clean, quiet, and fine for sleeping. Two improvements : Secure the mattress to the frame and provide night stands with reading light. 2. The common bathrooms were spotty on cleanliness: The toilet I used was feces splattered the first day and stayed that way the five days I was there. No handy toilet brush to clean up after one's self. If staff is not going to do their job, it would be helpful if a brush were provide for users to use--although I am aware that some don't understand this courtesy. The charcoal colored tile on the floor and in the shower areas obscured the true condition of things. I prefer lighter colored floors which are obviously maintained. Adequately fixture count and good hot water. Two improvements recommended: soap and maybe shampoo for the showers and daily cleaning of the toilets.
Great staff, good location, fine rooms.
Everything was ok.
Average hostel. Free breakfast was a nice surprise, the staff was friendly, the location good and every day you receive a fresh towel!
We received beds in a 8-bed bedroom although it stated 4 beds in the reservation form (I suppose it meant 4 bunk beds - this should be clearly stated!). The below ground rooms are very dark and there are no windows in the bathroom. There is no possibility to borrow locks for the lockers, only to buy those.
I really enjoyed my time set the hostel. The people were awesome. The staff was amazing, especially Stephan.
First time staying in a hostel in a very long time, and this place was really enjoyable! The staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Great common areas to meet people and interact. Nightly "outings" in the area that staff offers. Etc Etc Etc. Great Place!
The bathrooms were fine, but a bit rundown. Oh the metal creaky bunk beds. No biggie, but wood's better every time :-)
Price No frills room understandable but the bed creaked terribly, room was extremely hot and radiator clanked all night long. Bathroom (down a flight of stairs because it was closer than the one on the totally opposite end of the building) seemed clean but the garbage was overflowing which made me wonder. Hallway carpets filthy with a fan running with a very long extension cord in a corner of one hallway. Why? Breakfast edible but kept running out of items which took a while to refill.
The dinning hall is great! It's big and offer various kinds of breakfast, you can even make your own wafer!
I liked the hostel it was really good in all of his services and so on with just very few exeptions.
It was way to expensive for an hostel, at least after they changed our booking so we did not get the expected rooms
This was my first hostel experience and it was amazing. The staff is phenomenal!!!!
Location, staff and breakfast.
You have to tell in advance that you want your room cleaned.
Pleasantly surprised by the services provided. Really appreciated the freebies.
Free Breakfast, reading room, internet, deluxe kitchen, staff
The girls were sloppy, towels & clothes all over the floor and they took more than one locker. Two of us had no locker, I paid for a lock & never used it. We kept things in our suitcase. They used all the hangers, I asked staff to get me two to hang my coats. I had to get three rolls of TP, 8 girls were down to an 1/4 roll at night!
The location of the hostel is great, it is in one of the best neighborhoods of Chicago, near downtown and near a bus as well as a cta train station. The staff was very friendly and helpful and everything was very clean. Also, the hostel offers events every evening where you can meet other travelers and get to know Chicago a little bit better.
When I booked a bed in a dorm room with private bathroom, I honestly expected a little more than one stall, one sink and one shower for eight people. Also, the free breakfast that is included consisted of only toast and a banana. Coffee or hot chocolate is not included and has to be paid extra.
Location, helpful pleasant staff
slow elevator, laud children
Lots of Bars around Lots of Restaurants around Activities every evening arranged by the hostel for solo travellers. Easy to get to the city. 30mins or so EXCELLENT Staff (Cannot say this strongly enough). Pointed out some excellent places to go. Only Hostel in the city you can bring your own drink in and chill out. Free Printing (Handy for tickets or groupons :) ) Handy bike rental.
Beds could have had better sheets. (very thin) but that is nit picking.
its really quiet and good location
Breakfast and free wifi
The hostels location in Lincoln Park was stunning and a real gem of a find. It was lovely to be so close to the park as well as the lake. Getting around the city from this area was really easy from either grabbing the subway or walking into town which was a beautiful walk into the loop along the lake.
The coffee from the machine was a little burnt tasting but apart from that all was fabulous
