Greetings, and thank you for your interest in Chicago Getaway Hostel! Our hostel was built in 1928, as part of the Eleanor Foundation here in Chicago. In the 1920's our building provided low-cost and safe accommodations to women entering the workforce in Chicago. Nearly 84 years later, we're still offering affordable accommodations to guests from around the world. We officially became Chicago Getaway Hostel in October of 2009, and a brand new identity was formed at our top-rated hostel!

Very well located near public transit and plenty of places to walk to. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Shared bathrooms were clean and good quality. Free Wifi was great.
Bed wasn't super comfortable, but was a good size for two people. Boyfriend would have liked more privacy in the bathrooms (shower stall within another stall, like in the women's showers).
It's clean! I stayed in a private room. Except that you share bathroom with others, it's almost like a hotel. Well, not quite. But it's very nice. Clean. Quiet neighborhood.
A little bit of walk from the station.
Cheap, good breakfast (I love the hand-made pancake!). The place is really close to Lincoln Park and a lot of great restaurants. Walking from the metro station takes just 10 minutes-- not a long walk!
The heating system is REALLY noisy in my room and I cannot close it because in the winter I'll be freezing if there's no heat in the room. Also, it is not like a hostel but a hotel instead. Too many rooms and there's seldom chances to meet friends.
It’s a hostel and shouldn’t be mistaken for a hotel. As a hostel, it’s a great place! The two things that most impressed me are very friendly stuff and immaculate cleanliness of the whole place. The rooms are designed just for sleeping. Everything else is happening in the communal areas. The kitchen-dining-play area is great. The breakfasts they served were the best out of everything we had on the whole trip, every day the food was somewhat different. Overall, it’s a very lively place. My 19- year old daughter liked this hostel very much.
The metal bunk-bed was shaky and squeaky. Every time my daughter moved on the upper level, I woke up.
Guests were awesome, cool place to stay
No shuttle service yet it does say that they offer one
I liked the friendliness of the staff and the events this location had everyday for the guests to interact with each other.
Food was not that good and had not too much options for the breakfast.
I had to change the room.
Beautiful neighborhood. Close to everything and I felt very safe.
I had a bathroom in my room, which was very nice.
Nothing bad,all good.
The staffs were nice, and they are having dayly night events. Good location, thinking of the price.
Little cold but u can get an extra blanket if u ask for. The first floor of bed is not high enough so u need to bend ur back when u r sitting on the bed.
The staff is so nice, the events that the hostel organize make you enjoy a lot the time in the city and meet people from different countries.
Location, cleanliness, staff, amenities
Got to meet cool people and share a room with them
There wasn't really anything that I didn't like here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hostel was well designed with a great common area and kitchen. Room was quiet and clean. The location is great there are lots of great shops nearby and Lincoln Park. The subway is close by and the location is pretty central so you can get anywhere in the city with ease.
Parking was hard to find and expensive. We ended up parking at the children's memorial hospital about 0.5 mile away for $29/day. Room was clean but sparsely decorated, bed was a bit uncomfortable.
Everything location staff friendly environment. Lots of restaurant's breakfast nightly events.
Nothing bad to say about this hostel EXCELLENT stay.
Only stayed one night . had a private room för two people, it was basic but good. Not cold even if it was really cold outside. Facilities like kitchen showers (on 4th floor) really good! The staff very nice! Would stay again.
The location is excellent and the neighborhood beautiful and safe :) Staff is really friendly and helpful!
It used to be cleaner the first time I stayed, especially the bathrooms. Please work on that!!!
Staff, price, WiFi, location, place
Excellent stay friendly staff nice clean beds and bathrooms. Pool table, tv room free computers, nighty event's. Lots of restaurant's in walking distance. I'll always stay at this location when in town for business.
None everything was excellent.
I like their free breakfast and wifi. Super speed wifi, very good !
I wish the bed can be softer and the blanket can be thicker, the heat can be warmer ! Its a bit cold in the middle of the night with the thin blanket while the heat isnt strong enough to keep you warm.
The stuff, the value, the breakfast, the location.
I came a long way from Finland and this hostel met my criteria perfectly. This hostel was even better than I expected. My room was neat and tidy. Bathrooms were very well maintained. There were a lot of space for all my belongings. The location is safe and easy to find when you know where to go. Loved the whole experience! I will remember this hostel when planning a visit to Chicago.
There were waffles almost every morning. Not a big fan of sweet breakfast.
Loved the people that you get to meet and the hostel feel!
Best hostel i ever stay. Friendly staf. Occasional event.awesome people
