Score from 189 reviews Very good
Clean, reasonably priced, good location.
Everything Else. Filthy. Wore out mattresses, barely there pillows. Stained furniture. Ripped and duct taped furniture Nasty carpet. Just don't stay here. It could be nice if someone took care of it, but sadly nobody seems to care.
This place was disgusting.
The front desk staff was pleasant.
The pictures of the rooms online were misleading. The room was very old and smelt stale. The beds were horrible as far as comfort and sat low to the ground and gave when you sat on them. The T.V looked to be from 1960 along with the décor. and furniture. My husband and I would not sleep under the sheets and comforter due to the appearance of the room and facility. The Mountaineer was extremely over priced for what they had to offer.I'm not one to give bad reviews but this is definitely the first time I have to say I was very disappointed :(:(
Location, '50's look, helpful owner & staff, pet friendly
The location was easily accessible to getting around
The rooms were in dire need of updating and redoing. The carpet was nasty as well as the upholstered chairs
This property was close to everything which I really liked. The check-in clerk was really friendly. The hotel was clean. I liked the fact that there was a wooden "screen door" and a regular door. This hotel is great if you're on a budget and looking for a clean place to stay.
I didn't like that you couldn't control the temperature of the room in the room. It was extremely hot and then got extremely cold. I booked a double room and received a single-bed room. It's not very accommodating for young children. It was a decent place to stay for the money but I feel as if they need to update and renovate to stay competitive in the market
Nice owner, very Courteous No frills but good value for a place to crash and shower.
Kind of thin on the "free breakfast" Lot of trash on property watered down the beauty of the mountain scenery
Had to move rooms because TV not working
Location was good
Bed was somewhat uncomfortable.
Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. The room was dirty and dingy the bathroom did not look like it had been cleaned and the ceiling light did not work. Ancient TV. Trash and junk laying on the sidewalks. Not a great deal at $166 for 2 nights.
Nice pool. Quaint looking at first glance.
All the dirty sheets, towels and road workers garbage laying all over by the rooms on the back side of hotel. That's where they put us. No soap or towels in the room. When the non English speaking road workers showed up and were admiring my 11 and 13 year old daughters. We said SO LONG. THIS IS NOT A FAMILY HOTEL......
Room was older but clean. Ok for a couple of nights stay Staff in office was very pleasant and helpful. A little run down, but for the price was just fine
It was cheapest but not worth it, go up a few bucks and choose another
Where to begin? TV for example was a small worn-out Zenith at least 40 years old. Lamps not burned out were bare bulbs with no shades. 40 year old phone doesn't work
Close to interstate
There was so much dust and dirth along the whole edge of the carpet in the room. It seems they vacuum the room only in the middle. No shampoo. A tv device from the 70s...short after the invention of color tv... Poor breakfast (ok, orange juice was good) and terrible coffe... Won't ever go back there...
Convenient to downtown and restaurants.
Facilities are poor. Looks like it has not been updated since the 60s or 70s. I would not have stayed except that my husband has wanted to stay there since he was a little boy. Once was enough for me!
Our room was not clean at all! We had to pay a $25 pet fee and there is nothing our pets could have done to make this room any more dirty. There were workers in some of the rooms on the way to get to ours and they left doors open all night. It looked like people went in and slept on the top of the beds and then left early. There were not good locks on the doors and we felt very unsafe. If we could have found another place to stay that took pets we would have left. There were cigarette ashes on the floor, dead bugs, stuff smudged all over walls and headboards, the amenities said there was a hairdryer and there wasn't so we had to go buy one-we would have brought our own had we known. This place was far from worth the $85+/night we spent. I would suggest $30/night for the lack of cleanliness here! Disgusting!!!
I really enjoyed my stay here. All the bad reviews are whiny babies! No mold or mildew, no bed bugs (seriously), and breakfast was phenomenal. The owner had a little herb garden growing outside my room and the entire facility was very clean for $70/night! Less than 5 min drive to downtown and a wonderful pool.
Parking was a drag, I had to park in a cramped spot.
The staff was great
The hotel was dirty. Has not been updated in 20 years. Staff had to bet reminded to clean the room.
It's basically a homeless hotel . A lot of you kids live there and they party outside all night drinking and smoking pot. The carpets were so stained you did not know what the real color was. Painted toilet set with paint peeling off. Bed blankets were so old they had obviously collected all kinds of HAIRS yet management would do NOTHING to replace the blanket riddled with hairs all over it for me. TV was at least thirty years old. Headboard was broken and laying on it's side. Walls were dirty and stained omg I could go on and on and I'm def not picky about hotels but this place was SICK!!
Location. Plenty of ice and light breakfast included.
The hotel is old and outdated. The door to room did not feel secure. Spiders in the bathroom and sink really slow to drain. Think they rent rooms to locals.
This place is minutes from downtown Asheville. No bed bugs.
The cleaning staff doesn't clean anything. There were handprints on doors walls, the mirrors were smeared dirt, the lights on wall were rusted and half hanging out of socket, 3 of the 4 lamps didn't work and vanity light flickered... The curtain didn't close all the way, there is a definite mildew mold smell mixed with cigarets. The chair was old and tattered. Anyway you get the picture it was filthy. I cleaned all the surfaces but that didn't change how the room felt.
It was cheap and convenient, and with everything we needed. The main sheets and towels were used but clean, and it's a short drive to downtown. The breakfast was sufficient.
The carpet is not very clean. The TV did not work. The non-smoking room still had the faint smell of cigarettes.
unclean, towel rack fell off wall,no hangers for clothes, bugs in carpet , parking a disaster due to too many trailers allowed to park in front of guest rooms, light bulb out in lamp, bed uncomfortable and unclean. Night attendant unpleasant.Area for breakfast unsuitable.
