Location and housing
The view…Surrounding of Nature the Peace of the place
a little dated…but great value they could have a coffee maker in the room...
The location and grounds are park-wilderness and beautiful.
The desk clerk who checked us in tried to give us a sub-standard room which was not what I had booked and paid for. We had to hike back to the desk and have it changed. I felt like it was a manipulation to get the lousy cold little closet of a room rented because the hotel was going to fill that night. I didn't appreciate the slight. Especially when I'm tired.
The grounds and facilities are top notch, beautiful.
I'm not one for family style eating arrangements, so I went to restaurants for meals. I was grateful Asilomar has a small cafe adjacent to registration to purchase individual items and coffee, which one can take out on the deck and enjoy.
Staff very reluctant offer a nicer room even when asked. We asked for a view and/or a small deck, but they said the rooms are assigned when they become available. There was 20% occupancy yet our room none of the nicer amenities that vacant rooms had...and I asked for them. Not very guest friendly.
Setting and ambience
Some staff not very well informed. Those interacting on phone and desk.
Gorgeous location. Beautiful old lodge with fireplace. Right across from state beach both both beach and dune walks.
Amenities not as good as a standard hotel: eg no coffee-maker in the rooms. We are older and didn't think to request a first floor room. The signage and lighting are poor after dark. Both handicap access and lighting are slated for improvement in 2015.
Waiting until 6:30 a.m. for a cup of coffee.
beds were uncomfortable and hurt my back. Water was shut off in the morning with no prior notice,ALL WATER. Grounds/rooms were old and run down.
The facilities are beautiful, direct access to the beach, ocean views from decks, cabin-style buildings, I felt like I was in the forest.
I got a notice of water shutdown on my room due to construction work, on the same day, not notice in advance. No phone in the room to communicate with staff. Also, the heater didn't work well and the room was a little chilled.
short,scenic walk to Asilomar Beach
The location is excellent. It felt like going to camp.
We showed up at around 5:00pm and were given our room. When we opened the door all I could smell was paint. The window was a weird long window with two sections you could open and I opened up both. One window didn't lock all the way, and the screen was just resting against the window, and would fall down. We waited about 10 minutes to see if the fumes would settle down, but it was a very warm day and no air conditioner or fan. I called the front desk and they said to come back down and they would show us another room. The next room was a historical room and it was small but very "historic". It didn't smell like paint so I was happy. We walked back down to the registration desk where we were told that room was already given away. They gave us a third room to check out. We opened the door to that one and there was open luggage and clothes all over the room. EeeeK! They had given us a key to someone's room! I called back down to the registration desk and was told that the only room they had available was the original paint fume room, but they would send housekeeping down to take care of it. Spraying room freshener over paint fumes would just make it smell like room freshener over paint fumes. They offered to give us a full refund, which of course they should have, but then we had the stress of finding another hotel on a Saturday night in Monterey. We will not be going back, no matter how great the location.
4 beds and a fireplace.. no coffeepot but good coffee in cafe. the price was right. beautiful walking paths so close. I was there for the opening of my art show in Pacific Grove. wanted to put some good art on the tired walls. rustic is the operative word. wonderful lobby to hang out in
4 people so we would have liked 4 chairs in our room with 4 beds. directions to room and map confusing at first..
I think you should consider including breakfast in your rate again. Raise the rate if necessary.
No tv, big lodge, 5 min walk to beach and tide pools.
Rooms are too far away from main lodge. Since this is a conference center, I think solo travelers get the outlying rooms.
Check-In and Check -out took TOO LONG!!!! Long lines - slow slow slow service.
Was there at around 12 pm paid all dues right away but after requesting so many times still have to wait till exactly 4 pm to get the room. Unhappy.
no decent food choices
The location is beautiful. The main buildings are wonderfully historic. You can't beat the proximity to the beach. The fireplace was great
The room we had was extremely plain. It could have been an older motel 6 but with a fireplace. The bathrooms could use a serious remodel and we really would have liked a king size bed rather than the double bed and three single twins.
No coffee for the room
The person sent to bind the two beds was very efficient. The maids were pleasant and efficient.
Reservation manager was unkind and snapped at me for having booked from Book.com; she said since I had done a third party booking, she would place us in the historical area. I said: "I do not want that area; I have been coming here twice a year for over 30 years, and lady this area is unacceptable to me. She said: we are all full and you want two days (sounded like she was unhappy that we booked for two days). She finally said: "we can put you in Tree Top with a king size bed. I accepted, and when we got to Tree Top, there were two twin beds; we had to call the front desk; they sent over someone to bind the two beds together.
Fresh sea air just outside
I was only able to stay one night!
Walking trails that are well maintained; conveniently located coffee shop to get breakfast or snacks.
Bed was not the most comfortable.
new walking trails through dunes to beach new coffee/snack bar in main lodge proximity to Aquarium & Fisherman's Wharf
