Location is very accessible
The heater in the room is like those old air conditioners the size of a big box. It´s so noisy it feels you are sleeping next to a washing machine. If you turn it off, you freeze - particularly as the bed was right next to the window and it was winter. If it´s on, you can barely sleep. Room was small, dark and not well ventilated. I stayed there for an entire week and only after asking three different days I managed to get 2 extra blankets for me and my colleague. I think its ok and still value for money if you are only staying for 1 or 2 nights, but certainly not suitable for a longer stay, as in my case. Except for one exception, staff was not particularly helpful or interested in being so. Understandably, as they seem to work incredibly endless hours without shift.
Staff was meh. Room was small & a bit crowded by the bed; fine for sleeping but not inviting for hanging out in.
Very convenient location. WiFi worked actually very well (after some initial fiddling around). I liked the hallways with their old-world charm. I was on the 4th floor and noise from the bar/stage did not make it up there.
Sketchy room, poor services, no lobby but rather a bizarre hallway. Said that they would store my luggage when I arrived and they put it in the corner, under the stairs completely not secure. I would not recommend this hotel and will not be returning.
The place is worn.
Loud noises from the street until 1pm (they have a comedy show on Tuesday night). I was on the 4th and top floor and I could still hear the conversations on the street. Hotel is very old, and it shows, not necessarily in a good way.
Slept great, the bed must have been comfortable. The location was near Dupont Circle, where I wanted to be
The location was ideal with easy access to the trains
1. Old type lift door does need skills and strength to slide open, and seems more difficult with lugguage. 2. After room cleaning, it smells like clinical office and the smell hangs on for days. One may feel alergic.
Easy reach via subway from Union Train Statioin, a number of restarrants around, CVS stores. Coffee and tea is free 24 hours at lobby.Good price compared to D.C. life.
lack of support, bad bed, cramped space, 3 level walk up to front door, no support with luggage. No ice for the room except via the basement level bar.no vending in this hotel.
great dinner, food quality and service.
Heating is done with radiator which is very loud. It is so loud that it wakes you up in the middle of the night.
Close to Metro line, above a bar with hundreds of beer types.
On a main road so lots of traffic noise. Several bars in the area so some people noise on weekend.
Staff are awesome. Easy walk to metro. Rooms are clean.
The staff was so nice
Lovely big room, comfortable bed, very clean & staff very pleasant.
The room is extremely tiny, which is fine as it was a cheap room. The hot water took ages to come. If you want peace and quiet, this place is not for you. You can hear when other people are moving around in the building. There is also some noise coming constantly in the background from the nearby pub / bar.
I loved the location. It's close to DuPont circle metro station. A lot of great eateries around. Clean room albeit tiny.
Big leak on the wall...very small room,
They need better front-desk personnel. You feel as though you're checking into a hostel. A little more gentility and deference is in order.
You can walk to Georgetown, Rock Creek Park, or Foggy Bottom from here. The Dupont Circle area has all your normal necessities. The hotel has two big bars. The hotel is fairly inexpensive.
The room we had (209) was right above the second bar, where performances are held. On Friday and Saturday nights the performances go on till 2am, and on all other days till 12am. The room has little soundproofing, to the point that you could make out the exact words of each song lyric, the room vibrates with bass, while people inside the room are unable to hear each other talk. It was an incredibly frustrating first few nights.
Sometimes spaces seem sort of too compact, and there are chances the view won't be breathtaking at all, both windows of our room faced the brick walls.
Friendly and nice staff, good discount at the "tavern" downstairs for hotel visitors (never used it though), charmingly ancient elevator. Also, there's a liquor store right around the corner. And Taras Shevchenko monument right in front of the entrance to the hotel!
Staying second time in this hotel. No more. Though their breakfast is cheap ($5), it is very poor and remained so since 2012: coffee, toast bread, butter, jam, orange juice and bagels. That's it. Beds and floors are creaky.
WiFi improved in rooms in 2012
The room is too small. Only one chair is inside. The breakfast is too early .
The hotel is near to many interesting plases. It is near to good restaurants.
Proximity to everything by walking. Great restaurants nearby
simple, friendly and sure privacy
Location and price.
Very big noise till 2 a.m. We could not sleep, because there was a rock concert in the hotel. Breakfast very poor.
No soap or shampoo in the room. They lost my toiletry bag that I left behind. Called in. They could not find it and seemed not to care.
The pub downstairs
