room was very hot, no A/C: ok for winter, but I would not recommend in the summer
Great location and value.
The sliding door to the bathroom was hard to slide :-)
Old heaters that make noise. They need to maintain the heaters valves in order to avoid leaking and unexpected noises over the night.
The location is good. Price is OK
The front desk person was horrible, even tangential to rude. The hotel is very old
Cleanliness of rooms, price, lots of soaps.
Continental breakfast was weak, no fan in the bathrooms.
Your room was okay
This stuff is not very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is bad.
All the staff were generally very helpful and answered our questions. We were attending a workshop during the day and needed to return to the hotel late afternoon to pick up our bags and car. One of our party discovered she had left her wallet in the taxi. The lady at the desk called the taxi company to report the loss, offered to call us at home if the wallet were returned, etc. As it turned out, the driver found and returned the wallet, the desk lady confirmed that nothing had been taken and called my friend at home, and the wallet is currently in the mail. Everyone showed exceptional concern and pitched in to help!
The valet parking seemed expensive to us (Total of $30/night including tax) but we're not used to San Francisco prices.
For people not wanting to spend $$$$ on a downtown hotel, this place is great. The location is one block from a cable car stop. It includes a continental breakfast and wifi. The staff is courteous and helpful. Rooms are clean. There is an on-site restaurant and bar with many others nearby. Just remember, you can't pay this low of a price in any city AND get all the "bells and whistles". If you want the Fairmount Hotel, then be willing to pay for it! Otherwise, this place is fine.
Rooms aren't air-conditioned so it can get warm at times. The bathrooms are dated but clean and functional. Some rooms have limited electrical outlets.
Staff is not kind
The location is good, 5 mins from Union square.
The hotel is ok, but it's old, in major need of renovating. And there is quite a weird smell throughout the hotel. It's quite off putting. Bathrooms are small as well. Would probably pay a bit more next time to stay somewhere else.
The location of the hotel was excellent, and quite centre for buses and the cable car, at Union square. There are plenty of shops and restaurant close by and the hotel has a bar located beside it. We couldn't fault the staff who were very welcoming, and helpful. You can book most tours from the hotel, it you are not an independant traveller; the tour company in most cases pick-up from the hotel. I would stay again, just for the location and ease of travelling around
The room had a strange smell, but in general was clean. We were located very close to the lift, which was very noisy. The breakfast was very basic and could do with having a few items added, such as a toaster and maybe cream cheese to go with the crossiants. The rooms could do with up dating and the addition of tea making facilities
quiet through the night parking reasonable price
room very warm no air conditioning but did have portable fan no in room hair dryer
Great location, price and cleanliness
Radiator heating some rooms were like saunas!
staff pretty friendly and helpful with directions.
Breakfast very basic with grocery store muffins.
location was very convenient
First of all, we arrived and the lobby man screamed at us! Literally he screamed for us telling him incorrect room number. We were wrecked from our 11 hr flight and get screamed at by staff, how welcome is that? When we just arrived and it is reception who told him number not us. Second, radiators are controlled from reception and we had to call them everytime to turn them off. We were waking up at night because of roasting air and calling reception. We asked them so many times to keep radiators off.
Window that opened to get fresh air Convenience of location Valet parking with reasonable rates Very helpful staff Decent breakfast which was included
Price was good. Room was clean and comfortable.
Bathroom lights flickered. Bathroom was also drafty, as the window was slatted, and not a solid pane.
Decent breakfast and close to union square.
Far from the metro station. Very noisy. Room was too small.
Staff. Free upgrade.
Couldn't open a window.
Great location. Clean rooms. Shower was great. The charming White horse pub on ground level serves excellent burgers.
No air conditioning
Very central, clean room, excellent for short stay in San Francisco.
No major complaints.
Expensive parking with slow retrieval, but what do you expect in the city?
location, reasonable price, nice decor generally, entrance, character
A few small things would make it much better - in my opinion. The bar for breakfast is so dark and unwelcoming. Breakfast is all paper cups and plates and boxes of bought croissants. The bar is a very dark and unwelcoming place for breakfast. The addition of bread/bagels and a toaster and some more lights and a bit of service, would not be so difficult? Rooms - no tea/coffee or downstairs. 1 accessible socket in room! no desk lights - cant turn them on/off from teh bed...
