Our room was very small. The beds were too short and not level. As an open window was needed for fresh air, it also caused outside noises even late at night and early morning too keep us awake

It is very well located in San Francisco.

Service personnel was not very friendly. And the hotel was not very clean. Expensive.

Budget friendly for the business district. Small but adequate room for single traveler.

No Internet in rooms; attached restaurant/pub was not a restaurant. It was a small pub, but barely "English" other than the Tudor décor.

The location of this hotel is amazing! Very close to Union Square, shops and cable car station. If you stay here, try Sears Fine Foods for your breakfast! They have the most amazing pancakes!

There was no air conditioning. Luckily it wasn't very hot during our stay, but we still missed it. Also, there is no WiFi available in the rooms, only in the lobby.

They changed our room to a bigger one

Rooms to small, no air condition, and where never told exaxtly how much it would cost us ( extra) to park our hired car there. $29.50 plus tax, ridiculas.

Very small bathroom. Front-desk staff were extremely unfriendly, and seemed to think the hotel was run for them rather than their customers.

The location was great. We were just a short walk to the cable car and busses. It was also in walking distance to China town, Union Square and the Theatre district. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the room very quaint. The wine and cheese was more like beer and hot dogs, but we enjoyed it thoroughly! We would highly recommend this hotel.

The continental breakfast was a little unimaginative. Cold cereal, some pastries, juice, coffee, tea.

Staff was very accommodating and polite. Staff did refund parking as a concession!!

Facilities were dated. Valet service took 1 hour to retreive vehicle.

The hotel has charm but needs some renovation. It is close to Union Square and Chinatown but not within walking distance of the nearest BART station at Powell if you are carrying heavy luggage. Our twin room had character and, although it was dark because it looked out over a narrow entry between buildings, it was quiet at night. Our room maid on the 4th floor was very sweet and helpful. The bathroom was small but clean with thick, fluffy towels. Don't be put off by the initial appearance of the hotel.

The lobby gives a very poor first impression. If the carpet cannot be replaced with more suitable flooring, both it and the furnishings are in great need of a good steam cleaning. The office is untidy, the paintwork is chipped and the carpet is different again from the lobby and hallway. The complimentary breakfast had only 2 cereals and a limited choice of muffins and croissants but there was plenty of fresh fruit.

The staff were not that friendly or helpful, I would not stay there again.

Small rooms, breakfast requires more variety - eggs and sausage,ham or bacon would be nice.

Not much to like except for the location. Hotel Beresford is overpriced for the lack of amenities like a "business" center with computers that did not have either a current operating system or browser - so I couldn't even check in to my flight home on line. The hotel bathrooms are not updated as was indicated by other reviewers on this site.

The bed linens had cigarette holes in them, and despite asking, they were not changed during my three night stay. The television remote was frighteningly filthy - absolutely disgusting. The bathroom was tiny - the sink is so small I could barely fit my hands under the faucet to wash them - and you have to step over the sink in order to reach the toilet. Most of the staff I encountered seemed friendly and helpful. I did run into a problem with the attitude of one very surly employee who - only after I complained - then offered to let me use their sister hotel's computer to try to get checked in on my flight, since she was unable to do anything to get their computer updated. I think this hotel has a long way to go to improve sufficiently before they can charge what me what they did for a night's stay.

Room 208 was cold. We could not get it to warm up. We stayed only for one night so we did not want to make a big deal about it. However, we will never go back there again.

I liked the location and thought the hotel staff were always helpful.

Good proximity to China Town, Cable Car route and Union Square for shopping and tours. You get what you pay for; that is a +/- statement.

Rude, arrogant and moody staff at reception. The service staff were just lovely. The restaurant/bar is and absolute dive complete with carved graffiti in tables and stinking musty furniture - 'olde worlde' charm? No. Just plain old ! The antiques chairs may be fake, but dust and dirt are the real deal! Reminded me of the old 'spit and sawdust' style pub. Room was much the same minus graffiti and just enough room for the bed - add 2adults with suitcases and have fun climbing over eachother all the time! Not very clean, old hard spring mattress, no aircon and really hot and stuffy. Opened window for air but had to hold it open with a phone book, then it rattled all night. The TV was so old it may have been steam-driven or horse-drawn... We had to go down 6 floors as WiFi only works at ground level, and fight for a spot in the bar or the equally grotty, small, hot 'guest lounge' which seats 6 people max. Day 1 i woke up early so went down to suss out a coffee in the 'breakfast room' (which is the scungey pub by day). The door was open, the coffee was brewed, and it was nice and quiet - BLISS!!! 6.58am was a good time to catch up on emails etc. before the WiFi traffic got heavy and slow. Next thing a loud angry voice barks behind me "How did you get jn here?! Did you open the door?? Breakfast doesn't start until 7!!!" I got such a fright i almost spilt my lousy cup of coffee. I do not expect, as a guest, to be reprimanded at all! It was all downhill from there. Breakfast was edible with pastries, muffins, cereal and apples. Paper cups, plates, plastic cutlery should give you a clue as to the standard. The Breakfast Police disappeared at 7am and reappeared at 9.45 to shut the door on late risers (strictly 7-10am regardless how much food is still left!) yes i saw a couple shooed away! The milk jugs and cereal containers emptied quickly and rarely got refilled.
