The historic value of the property. I grew up in the area (I'm 68) and never heard of the place. I attended my 50th high school reunion and stayed at BH to see what it was like.
No food.. Breakfast was poor.. No soap in the room - had to ask for it. No reserved parking spaces for residents. No help unloading/loading car. A wedding took place while we were there, had to park down on the access road...
My wife and I stayed at Berry Hill to attend a wedding and we loved every minute of it. The staff was very nice and friendly--it felt more like a B&B than a hotel. The room was beautiful and both our lunch and the breakfast buffet were excellent. Great value for the money.. An added plus was our time with Leland, who gives tours of the mansion. What a great guy! He obviously loves people and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him.
Peaceful, beautiful surroundings. Walking Trail Tour of mansion.
The atmosphere was fabulous and the staff was most accommodating and greatly appreciated.
I am the Chairman of the Board of a National company and visited Berry Hill Resort for the first time, as well as South Boston. I was there to determine future relationships with what turned out to be an amazing educational facility in the region. While I adore the BH Resort and respective amenities, I am concerned I am left without a choice, due to the lack of needed in room Cellular service, but to unfortunately locate another facility within the region. It is imperative my Executives, who will be frequently attending meetings with the aforementioned educational facility and my significant investments into a major mission driven outreach company which I am strongly considering launching a divisional relationship within the South Boston/Halifax region, have direct access with other Corporate Executives and myself as Chairman, President and CEO. To attempt to do so blindly is not a good aspect of our business and mission model.
We love the location and interesting plantation.Sunday brunch is really good.Non
I went with my girlfriends, we were treated with kit gloves. Beautiful grounds for exploring, the main house was amazing, and the tavern was a great place to eat. Will go back for sure!
The rooms are beautiful with great views of the spectacular grounds. The Darby Tavern food was quite good.
I booked a room with two queen size canopy beds, which I also confirmed as such with the desk by phone before coming there. I got a room with the smallest "queen beds" I have ever seen, and I suspect they were only regular beds. The bed mattress is sitting on three one inch by one-half inch pieces of wood for support and they bend an slip out if you just sit down too hard on the bed. God forbid any activity beyond just that and this was most disconcerting. Also, the brunch in the dining hall, with the exception of the omelette is served tepid from chaffing dishes that I guess do not keep the food warm. It was a decent price for brunch, but who wants room temperature food.
The facilities and services were excellent. The staff was very helpful, especially with travel directions.
The complimentary breakfast could have been a bit more robust. A hot item would have been nice.
Beauty of surroundings cleanliness
Bed pillows were skimpy. Too thin
