The views are amazing! I slept soundly and woke up to a great morning walk. The owner was cool also.
The low cost is about all I can really appreciate. The guy who runs it is friendly, but also eccentric.
The door locking mechanism isn't very secure, the floor tiles in my room were loose, and while it is certainly an economical place to stay at, it left much to be desired.
The wifi was reliable and fast. Attention is paid to recycling items. There is an eclectic library of books available.
Barely any of the floors are carpeted, the kitchen is stocked quite sparsely, and the uphill climb to the hostel could be difficult for some travelers.
That it was 10 dollars a night and had running water.
Just about everything about this place. Chad Kristner, the owner, refused to allow early check in as his first impression. I was in the area for a Warrior Dash (mud run) and some of my friends were in the area with me. The owner tried to charge them 10 dollars a piece to visit me at the hostel. Then when they refused to give him their drivers license information and social security numbers as guests he kicked them off the premises. As they were leaving he accused them off opening his package that arrived via FedEx. Those are just the problems with the owner himself. The hostel itself is in pretty poor repair, the shower clogs up while spewing so you are standing in dirty water. It is cleaner than the pictures make it seem but it's still pretty dirty. I opted to get a campsite somewhere else rather than sleep there. I could not get a refund so I didn't check out early and just used the shower after my mud run
Cheap place to rest for the night... but would have preferred camping to this.
Off the beaten path, slightly gritty. Fine for a quick stay with a group, but if you're by yourself, it could be creepy (as in the hostel version of the Bates Hotel creepy). This place hasn't been cleaned in a few years and no general upkeep for a few decades.
The proprietor is very helpful and answers the phone in the wee hours of the morning. He helped me out with a sticking door when we arrived at about 2:30am! Great friendly guy. And the price is great! I called ahead and he answered all my questions and helped me book the beds.
The stuck front door, but since it was quickly rectified, it's not a big deal.
No hassle place to lay your head while in the athens area. Kitchen and lounge room a plus. Perfect for a group of musicians like ourselves. Bed for everyone.
