The rooms need a fine tooth comb going-over. In our first room, the handset to the phone kept coming unplugged, the television was plugged into an outlet controlled by a light switch, the toilet would not flush properly, and the refrigerator froze our contents. After being moved we found that the second room also had toilet issues and that the latch on the bathroom door would not catch. You would hope that a guest would let the front desk know about these issues, but they often don't. So, housekeeping or someone needs to have a checklist of things they inspect such as doors, windows, latches, phone, toilets, outlets, and etc.
We had a little plumbing problem that was too complex to solve in a couple of hours - so the staff transferred us to a new room for our convenience. We had also discovered additional problems in that room. No questions asked - the woman from the front desk even came up to help us, hand us keys and make sure the new room met our needs.
