Everything. There was no heat in the room when we first got there, the room was worn and did not feel clean, the sheets had hair on them, there was ZERO hot water, the only staff member looked disheveled and we only saw him when we arrived there was no one there in the morning, the hotel as a whole looked very run down. If we hadn't arrived so late at night I would have gone somewhere else.
The fact that it used to be the tow office and they made it into an inn. Really very beautiful. Plus they upgraded us.
Our first room, the heat didn't work but they put us in another room.
Downtown location is perfect; overall ambiance is both stately and quaint.
There were serious issues with cleanliness. The first room I was given had standing urine in the toilet--apparently a workman had entered the room to use it and had not bothered to flush. The desk clerk was very apologetic and moved me to a larger room, which appeared to be clean at first glance; however, I got a shock when I pulled back the covers and discovered stains on the fitted sheet and the underside of the duvet. Sorry to be graphic, but a quick sniff confirmed that the sheets had not been washed, but that the duvet had been overturned and the bed remade without replacing the linens. I alerted the desk clerk again, asked for fresh bedding, and made the bed myself. I still paid the full price for the room, but requested the manager call me to discuss the matter. I am awaiting the call.
There was a beeping noise in my room which I requested fixed while I was out. When I returned several hours later, the door to my room was open, with all my belongings in it. When I spoke with management about it, their answer was, "my bad" and "was anything missing ?" ! When I raised my voice, they told me to calm down and they would call the police. A man then came out of his room, threatening and said he was checking out ! The beeping noise was not fixed, so they changed my room to one with a portable electric heater. When I attempted to return to the room, the key would not work six times, until the front desk clerk let me in at approximately 2 am. I was not apologized to until then. I paid $150 for this experience and left the following morning without complimentary breakfast, as I was too tired from the night before. When I mentioned I would complain on line, management said they would say that I was lying! They then wrote an apology letter and offered me a 15% discount on room and restaurant for my next visit ! As if I would ever come back ! I sent them an email and they have not responded. This was by far, the worst hotel experience ever ! I drove five hours there and back to visit my son at Binghamton. I am a Federal Government worker who endured Sequester and a 16 day government shut down prior to my visit. I have no money and would appreciate a refund immediately.
Old Building, with the beauty of 1900's well taking care.
Heater in the room did not work well; weird noise when the unit came on; kept me up on and off during the night. front desk staff member was made aware during check out
The staff were very friendly, very nice old hotel decor
The rooms really need a refurb, our room had the wallpaper held up by thumb-tacks. the carpet is old and tired.
The renovation, the concern for our comfort with two wedding parties also present.
This was a beautiful older hotel that took you back to another era.
We weren't too pleased with the breakfast.
Amazing staff and service. Unbeatable ambiance. Great experience! Like ging back in time!
Nothing. Breakfast could have been better with hot choices.
Preserving the lovely old Beaux Art building by making it a hotel is terrific. They really made an effort to work with the existing architecture. The rooms are high-posted and airy. The staff is very accomodating. With more attention to detail, this could be a nice destination.
The room is sparcely decorated and could have used some pictures on the walls, E.G. The continental breakfast was unacceptable: a meager offering of fruit, paper plates/cups, no wait staff. The coffee was served in a pump carafe and I had to tend to making a replacement pot. The chair in the room was soiled. Kitchen staff use the same elevator as guests and one of the housekeeping staff took smoke breaks at the front entrance when we were there.
I like old fashion hotels. I am from a town which has many old buildings.
Reservation agent did not inform me that the room only had a shower. I was handicapped and unable to use the shower. I needed a bath tub.
Was in shabby part of town, building was old and rooms very small and rather shabby.
Architecural ambience and turn of the century charm. The rooms with high ceilings and oversized windows provided a
the architectural style was awesome. We liked that it seemed it could be haunted. The staff was very accomodating. I would recommend to a friend with the caution it is NOT a luxury hotel.
It was smaller than expected The ceilings were high and i think that gave a skewed version of the square footage. I noticed that the bathroom was not cleaned well
The staff was excellent.

As other travelers mentioned, the decor is a little tired and could use some updating, but we wouldn't have traded it for a cookie cutter chain hotel. Our room was a corner room and was incredibly large, clean and comfortable. It could have been more welcoming with local artwork on the bare walls and a comfortable desk/chair added. The staff were all wonderful and very helpful. We ate dinner in the bar area and our meal was delicious! The wine was even better. The bartender/manager was very engaging and hospitable. Our room was also very quiet which was great after a long day of driving. You definitely couldn't beat the value! We would definitely stay there again.
Could have used more personal touches in the room. I don't expect much for a continental breakfast but it was pretty meager. The large coffee machine was broken so it was being made one pot at a time, which took forever and it wasn't worth the wait. There were no cups for the OJ so we used coffee cups. Had to ask for more knives, some cream cheese for the bagels, and some napkins. We got there closer to the end time, so maybe it was better earlier.
location was on our travel route. free parking very close. a convenient, economical option. had a fridge with freezer in the room. Very handy for travelers.
it could have been cleaner. There was obvious dust on our bedside table and lamp. they ran out of a couple essentials during the self serve breakfast bar, i.e. well before 10:00 a.m. Some things they were able to restock, but had no replacements for other items.
