Breakfast is pathetic
A quirky and individualistic hotel with attentive staff, comfortable, well serviced, and good sized rooms. The hotel location is excellent, close to Chinatown, Little Italy, and East Village. The immediate area has plenty of bars, restaurants, and coffee places that are welcoming to all, while being frequented by mostly by young New Yorkers. There is a subway station very close with excellent links to the rest of Manhatten and beyond.
Some rooms can be a bit noisy as night. The rear of the hotel overlooks a reasonably large and popular bar/nightclub which remains open very late on the weekend and the music can be disturbing. But, in our view the positives about the Blue Moon far out weigh this minor issue.
Admin staff person had a desk in the front lobby within earshot. There seemed to be a lot of drama with other people over seemingly little. She was okay to us in person but not very nice to people on the phone. The conceriege were all very nice though.
Large spacious rooms like a mini apartment. Clean rooms. Conveniently placed between two Metro stations. Staff friendly and helpful. Good Wifi throughout the hotel and the rooms. Tea and coffee in the room. You have fridge you can use in your rooms whereby you can put your own food and drink in which made it easy for you to have your own breakfast. Even though there was no amenities like gym or pool. The area is really nice and trendy. Loads of young people and older in the area. Close to the Tenement museum and China Town but safe and Orchard street has a lot of trendy bars and restaurants. Grocer is 2 mins walk from the Hotel and a Farmers Market is 5 mins walk with fresh Organic Produce.
Their breakfast is very small - hence we were glad we could use the fridge for our own breakfast products. No amenities like gym or pool with the hotel.
This was our second time staying at the Blue Moon. The hotel has a consist friendly and charming staff, lovely breakfast fare, and a homey warm and welcoming environment. Whenever we have stayed , it's so pleasant we actually hesitate to go out. It's the perfect relaxing getaway right in the middle of the active lower east side. Both times we stayed in rooms with balconies. The decor celebrates an era long gone and the artistic style of the owner is felt in every detail. This is really a very special place to stay. It's a landmark of it's own - you really can't beat this charm. Thank you so much to the entire staff for making our stay so wonderful, we will be back again and again. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
The Blue Moon Hotel is like staying with family. Everyone was so helpful and nice, especially Lauren and Louise. No matter what I asked for they were so helpful, in getting the information for me. They couldn't do enough to make my stay one of the best vacations I've ever had. I would highly recommend anyone visiting the Lower East Side in New York to stay at this wonderful and charming hotel, you won't be disappointed, and you know I will on my next visit to NY.
This boutique hotel is an excellent choice if you want great location and a "family" atmosphere. The staff is wonderful and very service oriented. The restaurants nearby are excellent - especially Stanton Special.
location was great
toilet did not work. two staff members very nice however, the lady in charge was not:(
Sleep quality, cleanliness, comfort, WiFi, staff, good breakfast. Most importantly, the help and kindness of the hotel manager.
Javier at the front desk is great! . Friendly, informative. Cool theme. This hotel is located across the street from the Tenament Museum (whose walking tours are great) and is situated in a former tenament building itself. Ask for a high floor so you can enjoy the balcony view.
The owner or manager was very brusque and insulting to the staff in front of us. It made us uncomfortable.
Good room and bathroom size Proximity to Subway Good area for restaurants
Check-in time of 12 noon on booking confirmation was not respected.Told that 3pm was hotel policy irrespective. Unhelpful attitude of staff on arrival. Breakfast - just bagels, philly processed cheese and packet jam. No fruit.
Really great, friendly staff.
Location was good, quaint, spacious room.
Noisy night club nearby, could hear music too loudly until 2 am or so.
Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room. Interesting and unique décor. Convenient location in the Lower East Side.
The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. The neighborhood was very interesting.
The staff was amazing! Greated us with a glass of wine, helped us with getting around town and recommendations for places to go. The location of the hotel couldn't be better...right across from the Tenement Museum and great restaurants!
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
I saw a roach in the bathroom
Everything. The staff, the room.
Great Hotel with loads of Character in cool location
Too Expensive for what it is
The staff were very friendly and willing to help me.
The room was very clean, the showering facilities were also excellent and the majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the night porters.
For what you get the hotel is very over priced and the lower story rooms don't have anything approaching a good view. The location can also be a little far out from some of the main attractions if you don't like to walk but most are within about $20 worth of cab fair. The WiFi was very contested and is clearly in need of more access points which are not configurable by the guests.
What a fun place and so well located. Great large rooms and bathrooms
Quaint hotel located in very cool neighborhood. Close to everything!
We had an excellent 3 night stay at the "Blue Moon". The "Lower East Side" was the perfect location for us. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of our visit was getting to know the staff. Everyone had a friendly, upbeat and can-do attititude....none of our questions went unanswered. The Blue Moon will be our first choice when we return to NYC. Great accomodations....great staff....great location and all at a very reasonable rate.
Large and comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff, interesting ambience
No ordinary black tea available; overly strict 'no drinking in rooms' rule (what's wrong with a glass of wine before dinner??)
