Excellent location (unique building, Italian neighborhood, within walking distance to most sites that need to be seen in San Francisco). Very friendly & helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Clean, air conditioned. Great places to eat right on the same street. Nice complimentary liquor served in the hotel lobby in the evenings.
Lack of safe deposit box & elevator. Not enough light in the room.
Euro style hotel, small but comfortable room. Pretty convenient location at the east end of Chinatown and in the middle of old Italian area. Not too much of a hike to Coit Tower and the Embarcadero. Fairly convenient to transportation and our room was surprisingly quite for such a busy area.
Parking, but that's really a SF problem and not the hotel. AC would be nice, for comfort and noise control, but neither was really a problem during our stay
Location, staff and cleanliness.
Had a street facing room. Was a bit noisy but did get used to it.
Great Hotel, Enjoyed Our Stay!
Everything Was Great!
Friendly staff, great location, big rooms
A little dark, wifi signal quite weak
Small, boutique hotel with wonderful ambience and sense of what SF was like in days gone by. Tucked away along busy Columbus, with fabulous transport links and immediate access to everything at north beach. It was good to feel you could escape the madness that is San Fran when you entered the hotel and were greeted by the lovely staff. Thank you!
Location, right in the center of Stockton Lots of restaurants and cafe's near by And we saw the Columbus Day Parade from our room window. The room was a little small, but beautifully decorated
room a little small, street noise as there was no double glazing, the room got quite hot at night
No air.had to keep windows open. Thus street noise.
Liked the general area of Little Italy within which the hotel is situated. Liked the ambience of the hotel too. Lots of excellent restaurants and cafes close by. Easy access to places of interest.
Noisy, hot and stuffy room due to warm weather and the lack of air conditioning. We were in a room facing Columbus Avenue which was a nice aspect but due to the noise we had to keep the window closed at night.
This is a really good hotel to explore San Fransico. You can get to all the main areas within 20 mins walking. (Lazy walking) You can get the bus from most places back too the hotel, the buses run really late too. The room was clean and exactly how it looked on the photos. Robert on front desk was very helpful and couldn't be any more helpful.
We were looking for somewhere in North Beach as we enjoyed that area a couple of years ago, as others say, this hotel has tons of character and the folk are lovely and helpful. Loads of amazing places to eat and drink within 10 minutes or so.
I've read others who had issues with it being an old building with no elevator, but we had enough clothes for 3 weeks in a case and had no great issue.
The staff were very friendly and gracious. The room was set with an antique armoire, iron bed and nice artwork. The room and bath were very clean and the linens were first class. I felt like I was stepping back in time. Much nicer than a chain hotel.
Lighting was too dim for me. The fan in the room was okay but us Southerners like air conditioning.
The keys that worked (not electronic). In my favourite part of San Francisco. My room was very quiet and peaceful with a comfy bed. The advice about the shuttle was helpful.
Room was very hot - used the fan but had to plug it in the bathroom as couldn't find another socket.
Liked the coziness and atmosphere of the hotel. Nice neighborhood and spectuacluar Italian restaurants in the neighborhood. Close enough to all the places we wanted to go.
Just a bit expensive.
Location and cleanliness of the hotel. Friendly staff.
Rooms a bit small, would be hot in summer and would like tea making facilities.
- location, the best place in S.F. - nice decor of the hotel, very clean
The location cannot be best. Off the touristy paths, but convenient to everything. Great service and staff. Great bohemian feel to the hotel... Room 201 had great view of street and the best shower I have had in a long time!!!
Lack of A/C in San Francisco is normally not an issue. Our first night was very warm, but once we got used to it, all was great!!!
Leave the car parked and walk to awesome restaurants, shops, bakeries, gelato, City Lights Bookstore, Washington Square, Coit Tower and more.
Warm in the room. No air conditioning. Which would rarely be a concern, just happened to be unseasonably warm.
Absolutely delightful! Heart of the Italian district, Beach Blanket Bablyon, and many other attractions. Very quaint, comfortable and loved the historical atmosphere. Bonus was the bakery below for early morning coffee and treats and free cordial in the evening! Staff was very helpful and friendly. If we ever get back to San Francisco this is where we will stay and will be sure to recommend it to others.
Parking garage was a couple blocks away but really not that inconvenient and it was a 24 hr garage so easy in and out.
Location, service, restaurants...
Vibrant location in North Beach
A wonderful hotel that set the mood for a fantastic time in San Francisco. It is set in North Beach with an interesting stroll through Chinatown to get downtown.
You have to accept there is no elevator and you need to negotiate your luggage up at least one flight of narrow stairs.
The room was clean and in a good location with approx 30 min walk down to the Wharf. 10 min walk to Coit Tower. In the heart of North Beach. Staff very accommodating and helpful. Sherry provided each night was a lovely gesture. Good Italian restaurants in immediate vicinity.
The hotel does need a little updating/re-decoration. No coffee/tea facilities in the room. No air conditioning - fan supplied for the room which was noisy. If you left the window open instead there was lots of road noise in the early hours from the road sweeper etc.
