I love how the staff knows my family even though we only stay there a few times a year.
Excellent location! Only a few blocks from the subway, 5 minutes to Times Square! Staff are usually friendly (though can be a bit of a hit and miss). Room was basic but good value for those travelling NYC on a budget. There's also a nice communal area downstairs. Room also seemed to be cleaned everyday, towels changed, etc. The bathroom(s) were the best though! Clean and modern!
Lift is unbearably slow! Kitchen lacked plates, cutlery, etc. Wifi was incredibly slow at times in room.
Even as hostel, there are only two in each bedroom. The social area is huge with popcorn on Sat. Very close to the metro station 103, and few minutes to get downtown.
did a late check in around 11:30pm, front desk was very professional and welcoming. An asset to the hotel.
This hostel has a perfect location, very clean, freandly personal.
There isn't a kitchen, a little bit noisy because of heating tubes, WiFi in the 5th flor works unstable.
There was nothing to like
They had me come there for nothing!
Location was simply excellent (close to the subway, safe, restaurants and stores nearby). Rooms were spacious.
Not all reception desk staff was friendly and helpful (some were, but some were not). Also, my stay was in January and it was simply freezing in the room - the little heater was not enough for that kind of weather.
WiFi does not work well in the room.
Very good service, kind people in the counter. Overall I would be back in this hotel :)
Very bad menu and options to have snacks or buy something late in the night.
unfriendly staff noisy rooms uncomfortable bed
Everything was perfect! Our room was upgraded for free.Staff was experienced and helpful.Would love to come back.
Free wifi, kitchen, lounge area, warm welcome, person opening the door for entry/exit of lobby, quick response to maintenance when the main light in our room went out. Great food on Broadway (Carmine's, Flor de Mayo, Metro Diner, Broadway Bagels). Cleanliness and warmth of bathrooms. 103rd st subway within easy walking distance, and not too far for a run around Central Park reservoir.
The mattress was a little too squishy. The wifi was slow (sometimes unconnectable) in our room, which was in the far top corner of the building. The lock on the door did not seem very secure, and there was no deadbolt on the inside; if we had not been on the top floor I would have been quite worried about my safety at night. Walking along 101st to central park goes through a bit of a dodgy-feeling alley between apartment blocks.
I got a room with a shared bathroom, thought that the bathroom was gonna be dirtier or uglier, it wasn't. In fact maybe the shared bathroom was the best of this hotel :p
They CHARGE you for the key of the room (5$ cash which you get back when you leave) The piping of the building makes really loud noises The windows were really thing, I could hear the cars passing through the street like they were in my room (3rd floor!) There was no closet No AC, no heating (only the main heating that they controlled) 188$ a night for this is completely insane
the private room was great, the old building has character and it was nice to see the beveled windows and radiator heat. 3 block from subway and lots of places to eat and shop right across the street. the atmosphere is worn, but very clean. staff friendly and helpful. we would book again. we didn't get to use the internet facilities or the lobby with its comfy couches and big screen TV, but it looked inviting. thumbs up
remember to bring shower shoes. 3 full baths on our floor and usually always one available. We showered at night so that it was cleaner and more available. Remember what you get for your money in NY is very different for what you get most anywhere else. If you love character and don't mind sharing facilities this is the place for you.
The employees are very nice and helpful. The metro station is only a block away. The room is nice and clean.
The room is still cold even after you turn on the heater. Wi-Fi is really bad, too.
Next to the 103st station, it's really convenient. I thought it was a hotel before, but when I arrived there I notic it was a hostel. The room is not clean enough. But the staffs are friendly.
Everything! We left after seeing the room. We forfeited the first night deposit and made a bee line for downtown! Not an easy decision after travelling for 31 hours!
Liked the room. Bathrooms (or washrooms) were clean. Lots of restaurants close by. Only a train/metro ride into centre which isn't long (just ask people for directions, if staying short time it can be tricky to figure the system). I had a twin room with a bunk bed, very clean and nice sheets etc
Not great for cooking (only microwave and mini oven) and plastic spoons and forks. didn't find the directions from train station the best on my own as a solo female traveller but I was confident once I knew the location. So get a map prior to arrival an check u know the way
The location, the area had great places to eat.
Very chilly at night due to the lack of bedding!
The people there are really nice. I love the lounge !
There is a guy in the 3rd floor that smokes, he looks like a homeless. I think he lives there because he owns a cat and he room is filthy.
The staff was friendly and helpful, we ended up with a private room and shared bathroom and it was quiet and we always had access to the bathrooms :) The location rocked and was super close to central park and the Subway! Amazing atmosphere too :)
The water temperature was hard to predict but level levelled out after a while and the wifi didn't always work if a lot of people were using it but for the amazing price we were completely fine with that lol
I liked how easy it was to get around but I would pay a little extra next time and stay down town the money you spend on taxis and metro kinda would make the extra up for hotel. Anyways for something cheaper and if I was with groups of friends I highly recomend this place.
Location is great and staff really friendly
Beds are awful could not sleep properly and the shower either was burning hot or really cold. I was in two different rooms and they're quite different in quality terms.
Mattress too soft- I checked out after a few minutes.
