can't open the wine bottle ...need a better opener
The quite and location. We stayed in one of the small wooden cottages very comfortable and homely. The staff very helpful.
Proximity to Highway One but minimal traffic noise. Helpful staff.
Awesome staff! I had some "wardrobe issues" and they helped me out without hesitating. Location is right off the highway so if you've got an early morning departure it's as convenient as it gets.
The entryway is a bit hard to find.
Really nice cottages with good privacy and setting.
Staff helpful and friendly.
Curtain burnt up on left side, needs to be changed out.
the room is very well facilitated with a kitchen and small living room.
Away from the center of Carmel-by-the-Sea but within easy reach. Small patio looking out on lovely trees, scene only marred by loud highway noise (not audible inside the room with sliding glass door closed). Great shower. Okay coffee in the room.
Motel could make the directions clearer from the outset. GPS and google maps all send you to wrong side of property and you have to drive several blocks to get to the right entrance. Could just be part of the website. Bed was comfortable but not divinely so. Small quibbles as place can't be beat for the money - not in pricey Carmel.
Good you could get free wifi in room. Basic but very comfortable and clean - good value for money
Would have even better even it was in carmel centre and could have just strolled there
everything we have travel a lot and we really were able to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
location is great
musty interior, loud highway, hard beds, needs a pillow top cover or new beds and a bathroom remodel
It is a little shabby. Needs screens, paint, air conditioning. Got some stack gases from the laundry next door. Floor was spongy suggesting structural flaws.
the rustic theme...quite, peaceful, hiking trails
I was unable to fully enjoy my stay due to the smell of must and mildew...perhaps the rugs could be shampooed. The sink was filthy and could be cleaned and sanitized. Otherwise it was a nice room
Nice gardens by the cottages. Very peaceful
Where do I start? The dirty drapery didn't shut all the way, no A/A, the bed was hard the linen looked old and dirty. The whole room was dirty and set in 60's décor ( from the 60), old towels, furniture and TV seemed over 35 years old. The room and hotel needs to be updated.
Lagoon like courtyard and pool. Separate breakfast room near pool.
My room was clean with nice furniture. Each staff person I encountered was exceptional and accommodating to a fault. WiFi was a plus.
The inn is quite dated (television at least 10-12 years old; rug old and thin) and there were few amenities. The thermostat/heater/air conditioner did not work. Thin ceiling (could hear every footstep of upstairs unit).
Very quiet, bathroom was lovely, beds very comfortable.
There where no specific directions on how to access the property. It would be advisable to put the exact directions on the internet as using a sat nav brings you to a no entry.
What I like about the Carmel River Inn is the location and the quiet surrounding area along with the forest like setting. Also, it's close to Hwy "1" and that's an invitation to Big Sur. The rooms are clean and nice. The staff is friendly and very helpful. And there are some nice restaurants nearby.
The Wi-Fi can be better!
the location near the Point Lobos State park was great. The kitchen was well equipped
room was small with only one night table. The complementary breakfast was missing.
Cabin was set in a flower garden. It was a single unit with a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. It had a really nice garden feel with a table and chairs for us to sit outside. It was just lovely, and very relaxing. We would love to go back. We would definitely stay in the cabins again.
They didn't have a regular sitting area, like a couch. They had a nice little table in the kitchen with two chairs. Only one chair in the bed area. We don't watch tv when we go places so it would have been nice to have a love seat instead of the tv stand. But it was such a great place. and the weather was so nice we sat outside.
They have a very friendly and accommodating staff. Everything we went up to the office to ask for they had for us or would get it for us. The place is very peaceful and quiet at night. I liked the location also, wish we had more time to check out the places around that area.
The wifi was pretty weak so it went slow but then you probably don't need to be on your wifi when in Carmel anyways, right?
The little cottages, cleanliness, comfort
One of the entrances to the inn was blocked by big chains. I was told that this is due to neighbours in the adjacent area who would not like the increased traffic. Therefore we had to drive around the block to get on CA1 highway and use that entrance. It is difficult to do this at night time especially when not familiar with the area. The only way we found out was by asking a neighbour walking his dog. The inn should have clear directions about access restrictions.
the gardens are nice and have good places to sit and a fountain even.
The cottages are old, updated but still not real nice, but very functional and have a funky appeal to them. We were very comfortable.
