Bed was very hard room needs repairs very outdated.
No place for dog to potty. Pillows flat and hard. Carpet worn, stained and wrinkled. Bathroom needs updating. No cover on bathroom outlet. Stayed in room 1. Room 2 looked nice. We booked a suite, and did not get it.
Gas fireplace, cozy room, friendly staff, location -- walking distance (block or 1) from great food. Gas fireplace.
Many of the fixtures in the bathroom looked like they had been constructed by someone who didn't care. It was more like staying in an old house that had a sloppy painter do the job in a rush.
As a Repeat Visitor, I like the locale and some of their rooms are great in the style of old Carnel.
This visit, however, we stayed in Room 12. NOT a very spacious room with a uncomfortable bed and desperately needing an update. And their breakfast is bare minimum.
Staff was very hospitable and knowledgeable. Room was comfortable in spite need for a little fixing up. A good value in spite of unkempt appearance.
General appearance. Things like door mats in need of repair. No smoke alarm! Bathtub handles too high if taking a bath. Unfinished work -ceiling in dining room, baseboards, plastering, etc. in room.
Location. It was cute. My girlfriend thought it was lovely. Met my expectations and I would stay there again.
There was breakfast advertised and it was literally sliced bread and a waffle maker.
Not much of a breakfast.
Cute little inn for a great price. If you are looking for a quick get away for the weekend, stay here. Just a few blocks from Ocean Ave. ( uphill, but everything in Carmel is on hills) Small and quaint. Perfect for those on a tight budget.
No coffee maker in the room. Boooo! Plus the lobby didn't open until 8 for breakfast. Many people eat much earlier than that.
The three story was awesome me and my wife loved it.Staff was very friendly and everything was to do was very close. Pet friendly a plus. Will return soon.
parking is tight
We did this trip last minute. The place was An amazing value. The staff was incredibly helpful with directions and suggestions. Cool little town with big money. Great patio, decent view.
The free wifi got turned off when the office closed. Continental breakfast was actually only a few carbs for options which stunk because I would have planned to have breakfast elsewhere had I known. Still, I'd stay again in a second.
It is very basic and the bedding is worn-out, very thin with a few holes, so one will have doubt whether it is clean. The bed is uncomfortable. A bit too soft, for unknown reason, I just felt unease while laying on the bed. The unease I seldom felt before made me feel the bed was haunted. I couldn't fall into sleep until 4am, and woke up at 8am. During the 4 hours sleep, dreamed that the bed was haunted by a nurse. What a stay! The room I stayed is No. 7. So, if you feel the same, just leave a message too.
Have stayed there before, one layout in particular fits my travel needs. Went through all the websites and finally found the room I wanted and then upon arrival got a standard 2 bd room.

The location is very nice.
The room was very small. They did not have proper heating. There was a small space heater which was not good enough. Also, the breakfast was not great.
The location, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and of the owner. It was very peaceful hearing the sounds of the ocean in the distance. The wine reception was also a nice touch. It would have been especially nice to have had the fireplace on the patio available to enjoy. With a little more effort, this place could be very charming.
Although our room was clean, there was evidence of deferred maintenance. The room was stuffy and the windows were very difficult to open, One of the 2 windows had a broken handle and we were afraid the window might break if we pushed. The inside door frame of the bathroom needed attention and the bathroom could definitely use an over-haul. We had difficulty finding out how to operate the shower. The instructions on the wall had been painted over and was not clearly visible. There was also a problem with the water pressure. The hair dryer could not be plugged into the outlet because of the closeness of the adjacent shelf rack. The continental breakfast was inadequate. White toast, a waffle machine, and a choice of 3 cereals was it. We opted not to partake. We were lucky to find adequate street parking since the limited amount of spaces in the parking lot were taken. We wish the owner the best, but a serious renovation plan needs to take place if he wants the business to continue to exist. Sorry to say, but we will not be able to recommend the Wayfarer to friends or family nor will we return.
A box of tissues in the room would have been appreciated.
The inn is incredibly cute (over 100 years old). I traveled across California and have to say my stay here was my favorite. I could walk out my door (w/ free wine) and be on Ocean ave, walk straight to the beach, grab dinner and go straight back to the room.
The bed was comfortable, the shower, sink, toilet were only okay... however it is a 100 year old inn.
Location, cleanliness, welcome. Room 18 is EXACTLY what we had hoped to find !
Property was "tired", but pleasant, Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is excellent, right in town.
Breakfast disappeared quickly. Get there early.
I changed rooms after the first night and really enjoyed my second room with view, fireplace and comfortable bed.
I didn't like my first room as the door opened onto the sidewalk, and there was street noise. It was very cold, and the portable heater made too much noise to run at night.
Beds need new mattresses. Rooms are in need of reburbishing:Old stained carpets, some base boards missing, heater didn't get warm enough to heat the rooms properly ( very cold weather). Bathrooms were old and sparsely supplied (no shampoo or tissue) and only paper cups for drinking. Our room was facing the street and anyone walking on the sidewalk could be heard.
room did not appear to be part of thr original construction. Access was ground level but from the back parking lot.
