I really appreciated how accommodating the staff were about our budget and working with us to find rooms that worked when we originally thought "double" room means two double beds. I also loved the free coffee machine downstairs, the maid service was just fine, and the location was awesome.
The only things that were minor for me were somewhat unclean bathrooms (possibly hard dirt or slight mold in the showers, along with soap scum, toilets a little dirty etc) but it was doable and usually looked decent, as this depends on the guests. Also, the beds were alright but not great.
Location, cleanliness, price, comfortable
Wifi too slow, noisy
Very helpful personal and good coffee! The hotel is vey well placed in the middle of the city. Near to Haight street on one end and Hayes street on the other end. And breakfast at Alamo just a few step from the hotel can be recommended.
Very noisy so bring earplugs if your are sound sensitive, very light so bring blindfold if you are light sensitive. And the room lacking chair or somewhere to put the luggage and no hangers.
Coffee machine. Walking distance to haight.
Room dirty and beat up. Toilet not working. No fan or air in room. No soap or lotion in dispensers. Stay somewhere else and use public transportation to get to the area.
I'm young and had a college-student budget to San Francisco, and Casa Loma was a clean and comfortable hotel on my budget. Its location (which feels like the heart of the city) makes the rest of the city really accessible via uber, the muni, or simply walking. I spent hardly any time in the room, but the bed was super comfy and my room was kept very clean throughout my stay.
The hotel is situated on Filmore and Fell, two very busy streets, so the noice level was considerably loud late into the night, and there is no elevator.
Nice, quiet area, with some lovely cafes and restaurants nearby. Buses just around the corner. Very clean bathrooms and toilets, overall.
Carpets REALLY need to be changed, they have that strong smell of old carpet, and the ones in the rooms (I was in two different rooms and they had the same problem) have too many stains to be counted.
Great location. Hard parking. Smells bad. Good for hard core travellers because of value ;) I was't able to find motel for that price even outside of the city.
When I booked this hotel it was a last minute thing, I just needed a cheap hotel for a couple of nights. For the price I paid I was so pleasantly surprised!..the location is fabulous!..Hayes street is a street full of gorgeous cafés, restaurants and boutiques, which is just down the hill 5mins walk..SFjazz and all the big music venues are also just further down the street!..in the other side you have the famous Alamo Square and a nice walk to the Golden Gate Park too!..my room had comfortable double bed, loads of natural light and TV with lots of channels, and well as good working wifi..I would recommend staying here if you want to be walking distance to central San Francisco, but also want to save money and aren't too picky about your luxurys..
The room had a weird musty smell every time I got back but I would just open the windows, which was also necessary as the room was very warm and without air con. There was no bathroom in the room, which was a first for me but I knew this when I booked the room and it wasn't a big deal..there was two or three bathrooms and shower room on each floor.
Loved the location, just a 10-15 minute scenic walk from Castro and close to Muni.
The sink was awkwardly in the corner of my square room while the shower was not. The walls were weirdly filthy. Wi-Fi was dreadful.
clean and budget hotel, refurbished.
poor parking facilities in neighborhood
Friendly and helpful staff with free WiFi and a great hot drinks machine at reception.
I am a frequent S.F. traveler, and usually stay closer to Union Square. Budget is always a concern (simply so I have more cash flow for dining and shopping!) and this was my first time staying in a hotel with "shared" bathroom and shower facilities. The room location is simply the best, walkable to Hayes Valley, the Symphony, etc. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Very very nice neighborhood with free street parking.
I was very pleasantly surprised that the shared facilities were still private, in that they are single use only. We were in the unit closest to the bathrooms so that was noisy in the AM BUT, we also had a spectacular view of the city! Trade-offs...
The front desk person was great, she had great advice and was very friendly. The location was good, a bit off the tourist path but very close several bus lines. 24 hour coffee machine was a nice touch.
The walls were paper thin, I heard a lot of things I wish I hadn't. I could even hear the people across the hall. The hotel could use a minor facelift, the carpet was stained pretty bad and the walls could use fresh paint. Furniture was nice although the bed was pretty creeky.
Location was cool
no hot water on the third floor!
The rooms were very small but comfortable, the location was good and the wifi worked. The staff were helpful.
No breakfast, the coffee machine only operates between 6.30 -11.00 a.m. There were carpets everywhere with stains in them which was a little bit disgusting and you have to share shower and toilet (they were clean though). I had a room on the third floor and they did not have an elevator, it was not a problem for me but maybe for some other people.
The only thing I liked about this hotel was the cool coffee/latte/hot chocolate machine in the lobby. Everything else sucked.
The paper-thin walls, the stained carpets, the uncomfortable beds, the depressingly empty hostel rooms. I almost forgot the shared bathrooms and showers... Gross.
In a nice, quiet part of town, although at walking distance from the more lively part of it.
The carpets in the rooms don't look great, and have this smell of old carpet...
Great location, clean and value for money
The location was great and price was great
No parking avail .
price and location
cold and small and no elevator
The coffee machine in the lobby was AMAZING. I was wired the whole time trying all the flavors lol. And it was free!
There was no AC/heater in the room, so it was uncomfortably hot the whole time on the third floor. Stains everywhere on the carpet, too..
short walking distance to Haighy-Ashbury
The hotel's website gave us the impression that we would be sharing a bathroom with one other room, but we ended up sharing a bathroom with the entire floor. The bed was extremely creaky, and we woke up every time one of us moved during the night. There was no air conditioning, and the room was extremely hot.
The location was very good (only 3 blocks away from Haight street) and free coffee downstairs. Also it's a really lovely looking building.
The room was pretty shabby. There were stains on the carpet and we had a hole in one of our walls. Was also pretty noisy outside (considering the location, it's not really there fault).
Everything, easy location, brand new hotel, all facilities possible, loved our stay.
