I liked the location of the hotel. I was so close to a bus stop that takes you directly to union square which takes you pretty much anywhere from there. The staff was really nice and they helped us out a lot with directions. They were very knowledgeable of the city. The room was like a little apartment and was cozy.
I didn't like that the bathrooms were shared (community bathroom). Also, we somehow ended up with ants in our room. They handled the situation quickly but i realized that the reason they were coming in was because the windows were broken and didnt close all the way. So that didnt help either. The room was usually cold but i dont hold anything against this hotel. I'd stay here again if i could (:
I like the choice of decorations and the clean bathrooms. The BEST shared bathroom hotel I've been to in San Francisco.
I despise the weak WiFi connection and dislike that there are no elevators
Location, location, location.
Not the hotel's fault, but if you get a room on Fillmore or Fell, you may have trouble sleeping as the windows are not "sound proof". However, you should be thoroughly exhausted after an excellent day of taking in beautiful 'Frisco
The manager was helpful and friendly.Housekeeping was good
A staff member was extremely rude threatening to refund my money because I demanded for a receipt for the $50.00 refundable deposit.Staff need to be trained in hospitality ettiquette
The manager of the Casa Loma is a really good guy. Every time I extended my room they were very helpful. The gourmet coffee machine in the lobby is fantastic. The whole place has an eclectic air with many young European guests, almost like a hostile yet not seedy at all. I will definitely stay here again it's just too much of a value to pass up.
The female staff can get a bit snippy and in general not as friendly, but I may have just caught them on a bad day. The tv in my first room a double twin with private bathroom had the worst picture ever seen, it was a flat screen just real cheap. The pet policy sucks, but it wouldn't be cool if people had their dogs there either.
Good location near Alamo Square and short walk from Haight and good restaurants.
Disinterested staff, very run down building. The communal stair carpet was dirty and the room was shabby with a stained carpet and walls. I killed a bug in the carpet. This hotel spoilt this part of my holiday. I will never stay there again.
GREAT location: Alamo square, Hayes valley, Lower Haight all really close; Common bathrooms were pretty clean and never a trouble with waiting; Had a car and street parking was not an issue
Very noisy guests at the middle of the night. Stayed 3 nights: was woken up the first night at 3 am by a woman yelling at her roommate, was woken up the last night at 5:30 am by a man arranging a drug deal over the phone; The room was very dirty other than the bed, which was in decent condition. And the room was really hot so the windows needed to be opened letting in a lot of traffic noise from Fell St.; Reviews seem to love the coffee maker which was out of order the first two days I was there.; I checked in in the evening, around 9 pm. The woman at the counter was very unwelcoming. That was really the only interaction I had with the staff so I can't say that is the case as a whole.
Good location, price.
Carpets are dirty. Bathroom is not clean all the time. Cleaning service.
Loved the vibe
Wasn't really that close to anything
Everything, $54 for a night in downtown San Francisco, best money I've ever spent.
Overall our stay was an enjoyable one. The hotel is positioned on Fillmore street and each day we jumped on a bus from outside and travelled straight down to the marina, which was easy, quick and cheap and also meant we could leave the car parked! They had free hot drinks downstairs which was a bonus. some staff weren't very welcoming but others were quite helpful when needed!
We had a front facing room so at night when trying to fall asleep, the traffic noise was very loud (but that's expected in a city). The cleanliness levels were good but the carpet had a lot of stains all over it which wasn't very nice to look at! As there was no parking at the case Loma we struggled to find parking nearby on the road due to the sheer lack of places, the volume of traffic and whole streets parking closed off for street cleaning hours at a time! We had to move out car several times to allow this!
Receptionist never say hi.
Good location, safe and interesting neighbourhood. Walking distance to Mission and Castro. Helpful staff - helped me to find a free parking spot. Bathrooms, while shared, are clean.
The rooms do need some cleaning - stained carpets, etc. Quite noisy at times - staff does not care. Wall are paper thin.
- The bed was quite comfortable for the rate. - The decoration was more tasteful than most of the budget hotels I stayed at. - Fillmore is a nice place to wake up at, with Alamo park very near. - Restrooms and showers were quite clean.
- The room had a view to another room. - The guests upstairs were partying 'til 10pm, which was a bit annoying. - The carpet looked like someone had been slaughtered in it. Too dirty. - No elevator.
Staff here are definitely nice. Clean room and bathroom.
I stayed here for a night at the special price as about 50% off than usual. Then I can say it's reasonable to pick up this place to stay
Overall condition, really could do with updating and redecorating. Very warm with no air conditioning, fan was provided on request.
It is not a hotel, but hostel (shared bathrooms). It is not possible to find a parking lot around this hostel. Small bed. Rather sleep in a car...
Location Great Peet's coffee machine
When we checked in, missing a blind and no hot water in sink. Hot water never fixed, blind replaced on third day. Carpet was FILTHY, scary filthy. Did not look like the pics - they must have been taken at another hotel
hardwood floor and private shower in our room, although we never had a problem during our previous 2 stays with the shared facilities very friendly, helpful staff coffee machine is a great addition comfortable twin beds
same dirty/soiled carpet in hallways from our first visit 3.5 years ago street noise heard in room- but use of a sound machine that we brought made it ok for sleeping if we closed the window 4 flights of stairs to our 3rd floor room price has increased considerably in 3.5 years, nearly double
The only thing that's good is the coffee machine downstairs and the location of the place
Really dirty carpet, pretty much disgusting
Staff was very nice and helpful. Very basic room with squeaky bed. The carpet could have been cleaner, but I guess it was mostly the wrong color (beige gets dirty easily). From hotel it is easy (and cheap) to take public transportation to get to downtown. There is also some free parking near the hotel. Best value for money in SF.
location helpfulness of staff cleanliness of bathroom facilities
carpets worn/stained can be noisy, depending on other guests. rooms on the interior, the windows provide light but you can hear noise from other rooms.
Stayed for 4 nights. Location was good, Free parking on the street, 24 hour open lobby, friendly and helpful staff, free wifi.
Bed was very small and unconfortable for two
no wardrobe in room. no lift in hotel.
Ideal location in central SF. Breakfast served until late in the morning. Friendly staff, very helpful.
extra 50$ hold on your credit card. Looks like the whole hotel could use some renovation (stained carpets, cracked walls, hectic plumbing). Very loud and busy street, single-paned windows !
