The (shared) showers on the first floor really need some attention and updating. Both showers weren't working properly and there was mould on the ceilings. My biggest issue with Casa Loma was that the restrooms do not have wash basins for people to wash their hands so you have to go back to your rooms before you can do so - surely a hand sanitizer can be mounted on the wall?! It feels very unhygienic! Rooms that face the indoor courtyard get very warm and stuffy, opening the window does not help as no fresh air gets in. Also, my room was noisy and I could hear a tv from a room across the courtyard clearly.
Spacious room and friendly/helpful staff. Never had to wait to use the shared showers or restrooms. Nice location with bus stops right outside.
No parking lot, no bathroom inside the room, place smelled like a gas station toilet, uncomfortable beds, etc...
Smelly rooms, toilets in worst condition, insects in my room
I stayed here in March 2014 for 4 nights. The hotel was in a good location, nice restaurants and cafes near by. The hotel itself was clean, room a little 'scuffed' around the ages could've done with a little TLC although a very comfortable nights sleep. The noise of the road is quite loud in the mornings in the room we stayed in and the stairs are laborious especially with heavy suitcases! Breakfast although stated as free was never actually an option. We were up at different times each day but nothing was ever available only a coffee machine downstairs. Wifi was pretty reliable. All in all though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I'd certainly stay there again, the only 'problems' were superficial and didn't affect our stay particularly
Nearly everything else! Cleanliness was poor, we were travelling as a group of four and both rooms were the same. Weird smell, damp patches and our bed was broken so not the most comfortable. Hardly any parking outside, Walls were paper thin and staff weren't overly friendly or helpful (apart from cleaning staff they were lovely!) also the shared showers were a bit grim, someone previously showering left blood drenched dressing and a hospital tag bracelet in there which was disgusting! We are all used to staying in budget accommodation but this way too much money for poor conditions.San Fran is an amazing city and will come back but definately wouldn't return to this hotel
Good and safe Location, and free coffee were the highlights
NO elevator, so if with a big luggage, take lower floor rooms!
tasty coffee in the looby location nice staff
Not for somebody who prefers their own bathroom/is a light sleeper. Reduce noise by asking for a room that doesn't face the street and get some complimentary ear plugs.
It was easy to find, in a safe location and it was a very cheap deal. Staff were cordial and coffee/tea machine was exactly what I needed early in the morning.
the people at the front desk a little bit rude and no much friendliness
i love location and quietness. great for its price
I loved the location, the value for the money spent, and accommodation.
Room was beside very busy, very loud intersection...
Location was great.
Location Location Location, we really liked the location, and for the price this was excellent for our trip. There are bars & restaurants within a 5 min walking distance. Painted ladies are just around the corner. Golden Gate Bridge & Park is just a short bus ride away. On our last day reception took care of our belongings for half of the day. The "BRAT" (Subway/TRAM/Train) is essential to and from SFO.
But not very clean, noisy, not so friendly
Well located, few blocks from Haight Street and affordable...
The only things that were minor for me were somewhat unclean bathrooms (possibly hard dirt or slight mold in the showers, along with soap scum, toilets a little dirty etc) but it was doable and usually looked decent, as this depends on the guests. Also, the beds were alright but not great.
I really appreciated how accommodating the staff were about our budget and working with us to find rooms that worked when we originally thought "double" room means two double beds. I also loved the free coffee machine downstairs, the maid service was just fine, and the location was awesome.
Wifi too slow, noisy
Location, cleanliness, price, comfortable
Very noisy so bring earplugs if your are sound sensitive, very light so bring blindfold if you are light sensitive. And the room lacking chair or somewhere to put the luggage and no hangers.
Very helpful personal and good coffee! The hotel is vey well placed in the middle of the city. Near to Haight street on one end and Hayes street on the other end. And breakfast at Alamo just a few step from the hotel can be recommended.
Room dirty and beat up. Toilet not working. No fan or air in room. No soap or lotion in dispensers. Stay somewhere else and use public transportation to get to the area.
Coffee machine. Walking distance to haight.
The hotel is situated on Filmore and Fell, two very busy streets, so the noice level was considerably loud late into the night, and there is no elevator.
I'm young and had a college-student budget to San Francisco, and Casa Loma was a clean and comfortable hotel on my budget. Its location (which feels like the heart of the city) makes the rest of the city really accessible via uber, the muni, or simply walking. I spent hardly any time in the room, but the bed was super comfy and my room was kept very clean throughout my stay.
Carpets REALLY need to be changed, they have that strong smell of old carpet, and the ones in the rooms (I was in two different rooms and they had the same problem) have too many stains to be counted.
Nice, quiet area, with some lovely cafes and restaurants nearby. Buses just around the corner. Very clean bathrooms and toilets, overall.
Great location. Hard parking. Smells bad. Good for hard core travellers because of value ;) I was't able to find motel for that price even outside of the city.
The room had a weird musty smell every time I got back but I would just open the windows, which was also necessary as the room was very warm and without air con. There was no bathroom in the room, which was a first for me but I knew this when I booked the room and it wasn't a big deal..there was two or three bathrooms and shower room on each floor.
When I booked this hotel it was a last minute thing, I just needed a cheap hotel for a couple of nights. For the price I paid I was so pleasantly surprised!..the location is fabulous!..Hayes street is a street full of gorgeous cafés, restaurants and boutiques, which is just down the hill 5mins walk..SFjazz and all the big music venues are also just further down the street!..in the other side you have the famous Alamo Square and a nice walk to the Golden Gate Park too!..my room had comfortable double bed, loads of natural light and TV with lots of channels, and well as good working wifi..I would recommend staying here if you want to be walking distance to central San Francisco, but also want to save money and aren't too picky about your luxurys..
The sink was awkwardly in the corner of my square room while the shower was not. The walls were weirdly filthy. Wi-Fi was dreadful.
Loved the location, just a 10-15 minute scenic walk from Castro and close to Muni.
poor parking facilities in neighborhood
clean and budget hotel, refurbished.
Friendly and helpful staff with free WiFi and a great hot drinks machine at reception.
I was very pleasantly surprised that the shared facilities were still private, in that they are single use only. We were in the unit closest to the bathrooms so that was noisy in the AM BUT, we also had a spectacular view of the city! Trade-offs...
I am a frequent S.F. traveler, and usually stay closer to Union Square. Budget is always a concern (simply so I have more cash flow for dining and shopping!) and this was my first time staying in a hotel with "shared" bathroom and shower facilities. The room location is simply the best, walkable to Hayes Valley, the Symphony, etc. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Very very nice neighborhood with free street parking.
The walls were paper thin, I heard a lot of things I wish I hadn't. I could even hear the people across the hall. The hotel could use a minor facelift, the carpet was stained pretty bad and the walls could use fresh paint. Furniture was nice although the bed was pretty creeky.
The front desk person was great, she had great advice and was very friendly. The location was good, a bit off the tourist path but very close several bus lines. 24 hour coffee machine was a nice touch.
