ITS A NICE PLACE YOU CANT BEAT THE PRICE
STREET IS LOUD
I liked the morning staff and the coziness of the hotel.
I didn't come to argue with the night staff. I simply told the lady last time I stayed there we had actual keys and she insisted she had been there long enough to know they never used them. Also I left cash deposit and they had no record of it. So that wuz a process.
We came two hours before check-in to simply check our bags in (without having to pay for another night) and we were offered an immediate check-in to our prepared room. The staff were consistently kind, clever, informative and helpful. The free coffee from 6:30am - 11:00PM is such an excellent initiative. The decor was nice, everything was comfortable.
The TV in our room wasn't showing picture - not sure if that was an operator error. Did not inquire as it was simply a matter of fidgeting with appliances than actual desire or need to watch TV.
Free wifi and warm rooms. Good area and very good value for what you pay. The only thing that would stope staying here again is the horrible smell in the lobby
The showers where always cold, which in Winter is not ideal.. The lobby stunk of sewerage - almost unbearable.
Location is great.
The furniture of the place is old or it's extremely worn out. There were strenge stains on the carpet and white stains of unknown origin on the table. There was no cable TV. But it's not the worst thing, because we spent most of our time walking in the city. The worst thing was the smell - a strange combination of some strong cleaning agent and vomit. Guy at the reception gave us Lysol to solve the problem, because there were no vacant rooms in the hotel. So for the price you pay for the room with bathroom you'd better choose something else. P.S.: the walls in the hotel are so thin that you can hear every noise from other rooms.
I know what to expect. Same friendly staff and clean comfortable rooms.
Was able to notice a lil more noise in the room then I was ever able to notice before....maybe because I was on the 3rd fl this time.
When I booked the room I didn't pay attention that it was a shared bathroom but it was so clean that it was not a problem at all and the staff was great 15 min downtown by bus
Great price, location was decent, nice coffee machine downstairs, good cable in the room
Hot water was rare to encounter, staff a mixed bag not overly helpful
This is the second time I've stayed here. I live in New York and my parents live in the Bay Area so it's a great place to stay for a night out in San Francisco.
The most expensive thing in the hotel might be the coffeemaker. Imagine that.
The location and the price
Our room was on the inner side of the hotel, so our window opened up onto a very small courtyard enclosed with a roof, so there was absolutely no air circulation. The room was very stuffy. Sound travelled throughout the entire hotel and we were woken up early by loud guests in the lobby or in other rooms. We would not stay here again unless our room had a window opening onto the street.
Upon entering the hotel, there was a very strong odor that at first my gf & I couldn't identify. After checking in we carried our bags 4 flights of stairs (no elevator) to find that the key read of our door was broken. The relocated us to the 2nd floor. We quickly left to meet with friends for dinner and when we came back the odor was much stronger which I will kindly describe as sewage. We spoke with the receptionist who told us a pipe broke in the basement. After attempting to manage the smell in our rooms we decided to leave. The receptionist refused to refund us the first night (less than 1 hour spent in the hotel) bc he said he could have rented the room out. Right as he was saying this, he answered the phone and turned a potential customer away bc of a "problem" with the hotel. He still refused to give me a refund. I am very accustomed to staying in hostels & budget hotels but this was the worst experience I have ever had. I highly discourage anyone from going to this hotel (aka half way house).
Would have preferred an attached bath
Exactly what I needed for the money, no more and no less. Fantastic location.
Casa Loma is located in one of the nicest, safest and good looking areas in San Francisco. You don't feel afraid to go out during the night in this district. There is a bus no. 22 which takes you to the most of touristic areas in the city. On the street there are many restaurants, cafe, bars and shops. Great place to stay longer and enjoy seeing a real face of city not only the comercial one.
I liked the location of the hotel. I was so close to a bus stop that takes you directly to union square which takes you pretty much anywhere from there. The staff was really nice and they helped us out a lot with directions. They were very knowledgeable of the city. The room was like a little apartment and was cozy.
I didn't like that the bathrooms were shared (community bathroom). Also, we somehow ended up with ants in our room. They handled the situation quickly but i realized that the reason they were coming in was because the windows were broken and didnt close all the way. So that didnt help either. The room was usually cold but i dont hold anything against this hotel. I'd stay here again if i could (:
I like the choice of decorations and the clean bathrooms. The BEST shared bathroom hotel I've been to in San Francisco.
I despise the weak WiFi connection and dislike that there are no elevators
Location, location, location.
Not the hotel's fault, but if you get a room on Fillmore or Fell, you may have trouble sleeping as the windows are not "sound proof". However, you should be thoroughly exhausted after an excellent day of taking in beautiful 'Frisco
The manager was helpful and friendly.Housekeeping was good
A staff member was extremely rude threatening to refund my money because I demanded for a receipt for the $50.00 refundable deposit.Staff need to be trained in hospitality ettiquette
The manager of the Casa Loma is a really good guy. Every time I extended my room they were very helpful. The gourmet coffee machine in the lobby is fantastic. The whole place has an eclectic air with many young European guests, almost like a hostile yet not seedy at all. I will definitely stay here again it's just too much of a value to pass up.
The female staff can get a bit snippy and in general not as friendly, but I may have just caught them on a bad day. The tv in my first room a double twin with private bathroom had the worst picture ever seen, it was a flat screen just real cheap. The pet policy sucks, but it wouldn't be cool if people had their dogs there either.
Good location near Alamo Square and short walk from Haight and good restaurants.
Disinterested staff, very run down building. The communal stair carpet was dirty and the room was shabby with a stained carpet and walls. I killed a bug in the carpet. This hotel spoilt this part of my holiday. I will never stay there again.
GREAT location: Alamo square, Hayes valley, Lower Haight all really close; Common bathrooms were pretty clean and never a trouble with waiting; Had a car and street parking was not an issue
Very noisy guests at the middle of the night. Stayed 3 nights: was woken up the first night at 3 am by a woman yelling at her roommate, was woken up the last night at 5:30 am by a man arranging a drug deal over the phone; The room was very dirty other than the bed, which was in decent condition. And the room was really hot so the windows needed to be opened letting in a lot of traffic noise from Fell St.; Reviews seem to love the coffee maker which was out of order the first two days I was there.; I checked in in the evening, around 9 pm. The woman at the counter was very unwelcoming. That was really the only interaction I had with the staff so I can't say that is the case as a whole.
Good location, price.
Carpets are dirty. Bathroom is not clean all the time. Cleaning service.
Loved the vibe
Wasn't really that close to anything
