Very clean and cozy facility. The restaurant has a delightful breakfast menu. Very close to shopping and all transportation.
The air flow was a bit lacking. we kept the window open and the fan on. The room was small but very nice.
Location was amazing, the bed was so comfy, and surprisingly not that noisy as its on a busy street.
Nothing bad but if your claustrophobic the hallways are skinny.... but all good.
Wifi was poor. It didn't work at all in the first room I got and I had to change the room. It wasn't very good even in that room.
Being a half block off Union Square is a great SF location, especially in a hotel that is so accommodating to its guests. Due to the recent storms in northern CA, we were worried our stay would not materialize and/or be cut short. We made it there but had to leave early. The Chancellor Hotel was very understanding of our predicament & worked w/ us on a potential late cancellation and/or our need to check out early, which we really appreciated. The rooms are small but comfy and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We will return soon.
The staff were very helpful and accommodating during the power outage from the storm.
One of the housekeepers was incredibly rude on checkout date. She pounded on my door to leave when I was already on my way out! Prior to that, she complained that no one at front desk told her that I switched to late checkout.
Everything. Great location, friendly staff and the hotel thought about everything you would possibly need whilst on holiday. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Restaurant great value for money. Mao waiter fabulous. So friendly and helpful. Could not do more for you. Brilliant hotel.
We stayed on the 12th floor and we looked towards Union Square. Awesome view. The room had been renovated tastefully. Bed (& pillows) so comfortable! Would not think about staying anywhere else in San Francisco
The location was central to shopping, a party we attended and a wonderful place to have a fine meal. The staff were friendly, kind and I felt welcome like a friend and not just a customer.
Nothing really. It is a older building kept up nice and the halls are narrow - but I would say it was very clean and nicely lit.
The location is excellent in terms of being able to get to and from the BART (which I took from the airport), as well as to major attractions.
The local sounds are right outside. The cable car, the bar emptying bottles in the trash at 1am, groups talking outside early in the morning.
Cookies and coffee machine at lobby. Airport shuttle for fair price. Hotel give umberlla for rainy days.
The staff was very friendly, with lots of helpful advice and real recommendations. The room is very well furnished and with lots of convenient extras (like an iron and ironing board). And the location is really fantastic, super convenient for absolutely everything in the city. Btw, my room was facing the main street (Powell St), which can get a bit loud, even at night. I wasn't bothered, but if you're a light sleeper, try asking for a room facing the other way.
close to Union Square friendly and helpful staff good value for the $
Great location for shopping, sightseeing and transport access to other parts of the city; nice a-la carte breakfast that is available either until 2 pm or the whole day (don't remember but it's definitely way beyond the regular 10 am :)); friendly staff (especially Mao from the breakfast restaurant). There is a good selection of complimentary tea and coffee in the lobby, including some cookies.
No water in the room but there is complimentary water in the lobby that you can bring to the room.
We like everything about the friendly and helpful staff. The atmosphere is comfortable, welcoming, and relaxing. The accommodations are comfortable and convenient. We have always been very pleased with our various visits to the Chancellor Hotel.
We liked our view, the bedding, the towels, the lobby and the staff.
The hotel is well positioned in union square. It is not a five star hotel but location, facilities, and hospitality of this hotel are beyond expectation for its class. I was helped by the staff there when in midnite I went downstairs to book last minute tour and they helped me contacted the tour agency. The hotel also paid my taxi to the airport when my airport shuttle booking through the hotel was cancelled because the airport shuttle agency inform the hotel that they ran out cars. I didn't have to spend more for a taxi because hotel found me a taxi to the airport with no additional charge. Taxi to airport normally will cost about usd 50, and I only paid as much as airport shuttle usd 17. It is absolutely value for money.
Room is small and a bit old, but clean. It was difficult for me to use portable heater as the room is small with big stuffs inside, not much space left to use heater safely when I need it.
Small room, bed is too soft, weak internet signal.
Location, comfortable rooms for boutique San Francisco. This year I took a one bed room, that opened out near the adjoining roof: noisy on work mornings & quite breezy. Room & closet seemed larger than others I've had in same hotel, so no real complaints.
Wrote then removed negative comments because I should not let staff who work holiday week make me feel "guilty" for traveling to enjoy MY holiday.
You are right in the middle of the heart of SF. From there you can pick up all means of transport and go wherever you go. Very friendly staff.
We had very noisy neighbours the first night, but the staff did everything they could to solve the problem, including a relocation. The washroom facilities are dated, but I guess that's why you are not paying $500 per night.
Good location on Union Square, handy for upmarket shopping and transport links. The wifi worked perfectly. I had little contact with the staff. The room was reasonably quiet, the only noise was from the cable cars going by outside.
The hotel is 100 years old, and although clean and well maintained, it is not modern. The room was small.
The lobby was inviting, the staff was friendly, helpful, very accommodating. When ee asked for a higher floor, she gave us an amazing view of Macy's front enterance, Christmas decorations and tree. Awesome room! We were worried about the cable car noise but by closing the updated Windows we could hardly hear a thing. There are so many things to do around the hotel as well as 3 blocks to the Bart station, 2 blocks to the cable car pick up and drop off. We even saw a comedy around the corner,Parking garage close by. CVS atwe blocks away had deli style food and the cheapest wine or beer. The room was clean and super cutr
Another day off work so I could stay longer! I can't wait to go back!
I liked the location and the friendliness of the staff. I did like the fact that they had complimentary snacks out front and little discounts for the eatery on the ground floor.
Upon arriving I found out that my room rate changed on my last day, which is something that I did not like. If this was going to happen I would have liked to know ahead of time. It felt very "gotchu". Other than that the stay was pretty fine!
Location is the best, right in the middle of everything. Courteous staff. Room small but quite comfortable. Free coffee/tea service in the lobby was great. Seating area in the lobby and in front of the bar very comfortable.
Wifi could have been better. As it was signal's weak with frequent drops.
This was a perfect place to stay for my husband and I. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location really couldn't be any better. I read the reviews that the room was small and yes, it was but usually when your visiting S.F. Your not in your room much(hopefully;). It was an older hotel but our room was modernized and didn't have that musty smell some older places have. I was very impressed withe breakfast we had in the morning at their restaurant.... So delicious!
