Great location. We stayed in the carriage house at the back of the property, like staying in a private house. Good breakfast and coffee etc all day and cookies.
location, in middle of downtown
Rooms are small
The stay was great
There was a lot of noise during the night by one other guest
Location of the hotel was great as was the free parking
Bed needs to be replaced. Sunken middle and high on the edges. Uncomfortable to say the least.
This little B and B allows close proximity to historic Charleston, a nice breakfast, and a friendly staff. Fine for short stays.
Chairs in our room were not lounging chairs--more like dining chairs; as well, all chairs in the downstairs were also around tables, so no place to unwind, except the bed. After a day of touring it would be nice to have someplace to relax a bit more comfortably.
Surprised that they only served hot breakfast on weekends but their continental offerings were more than adequate. As were the "tea" offerings.
Could have used a new mattress.
Location!! Ambiance Breakfast Coffee/Tea/Hot Cocoa all day Cookies in the evening Very knowledgable and helpful staff Air conditioner worked great Hot water was instantly hot! Fridge, Iron and Blow dryer in room Shampoo/Conditioner - mild scent
Water pressure in the shower is very low. Splinters in the wood floors.
-Location -Historical -Free Parking! -Supurb Beds -Bathrooms need updating-poor lighting; two nights no hot water for showers -Very good Continental Breakfast (fresh fruit!);great cookies;good linens
-Parts of wooden floors very slippery (wife fell once) due to heavy finish-suggest placing rugs in all walkways where original wood flooring exists; -First 2 sups (one part-owner) very snobby/unfriendly (again, last 2 extremely friendly/helpful)
The room, with it's four poster bed, and was charmingly furnished and in keeping with the age and graciousness of the building. There was ample free parking at the back and the property was conveniently located in easy walking distance to the restaurants and elegant historic houses of Charleston. The provision of afternoon tea and a good array at the breakfast (including boiled eggs and fresh fruit) added to the general enjoyment of our stay.
The member of staff who was on duty when we arrived was distinctly unfriendly and this tended to detract from the otherwise charming ambience of the place. Barksdale House, despite its 1778 vintage and locality within the general historic downtown section of Charleston, appears rather "misplaced" amongst the surrounding modern buildings in the street.
Courtesy of staff Disrepair and cleanliness of facilities, especially the Carriage House Distance of Carriage House from main house ammenites
The property was gorgeous, along with the house and rooms. This historic feel was charming and welcoming, the staff was nice and the breakfast was delightful! My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay and plan on returning. It's right around the corner from all of the shops and restaurants. Highly recommend you stay!
Since the bed frames were antique... They were a bit loud. As expected due to my familiarity with that type of furniture. All In all, besides the brief noise - a well rested sleep.
A good location for walking the city and exploring by foot. Free parking helpful, as well.
B+B is near College of Charleston, so undergrad foot traffic is NOISY. Staff struggled to keep up with demand for breakfast, coffee. Housekeeping didn't clean room first day. Management needs to do a better job keeping tabs.
Great location for touring college as well as the city. Lovely sitting on the porch overlooking fountain and garden. Enjoyed the breakfast and afternoon snacks.
Beds were stiff. Heat and hot water issues in room in carriage house, but these were resolved by 2nd day.
the plumbing was outdated and the interior decorations could have been better, wallpaper and window treatments.
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was amazing. It was close to everything and to be able to park free was a huge bonus. We would definitely stay there again.
Was a little outdated and you could hear everything in the halls. Rooms should be sound proofed a little more.
I have been to charleston many times, but this is the first time that I stayed downtown. The Barksdale was the perfect place to splurge. The location was great. The weekend breakfast was delicious. The parking is free and you can use the parking lot prior to check in time. The rooms were spacious and quiet for a historic building. I would stay here again.
the wifi was spotty, early check was not possibe
Location and parking. Breakfast was good but not much choices.
Room was clean but somewhat sparten in fuurniture. Needs a love seat or couch to relax on. Heat hard to manage.
Great location and nicely decorated
We checked in and were shown our room on the first floor of the second building. We were not in the room 10 minutes before we heard water rushing through a pipe outside our room. When we asked about the noisy pipe the receptionist said, "oh, I thought that had been fixed". There were no other rooms available and they refunded our money. They did not offer to help us find another room somewhere else. We were disappointed :<((
Excellent location, responsive to emails and calls, nice porch, had umbrellas for guests.
The bed cover and sheets had stains and the cover did not look like they were replaced. The place needs some love. The staff had no heart and the breakfast always ran out. They gave a gift card for a partner restaurant, which we did not ask for, then they tried to bill us for it.
The area it was in an the people were really helpful
We loved the decor and the room was very comfortable. The free breakfast in the morning was delicious. The morning staff was very professional, helpful and nice.
We checked in close to 8 pm and the employee kept saying that she was about to leave, while rushing us in.
GREAT Location Ease of parking Daily Breakfast Friendly Staff Building Charm
Noisy, creaky floors (to be expected in older building)
Loved the location and quality of the Inn. Every jiggt there would be fresh naked cookies waiting for you when you got back from a night on the town. The location was ideal and rooms were incredibly charming. Perfect spot and value for a couple on a long weekend.
A fair price for Charleston.
The bed was horrible as it was so soft. Some of the lights did not work. The staff was not overly friendly, and the food was fair.
