The way it once was such a great place to stay and play
Old, dingy and dated rooms. Spent one night in a train car and when it rained outside, the rain leaked into the window and right on my pillow. The hot water barely worked as did the electrical outlets in the room. Way overpriced!
The condition of the facility needs improvement.
The old building. Bed was good.
Jacuzzi was lower than body temp and didn't work. Rooms are tired. Room service were noisy in the corridor in the morning. Check in staff were slightly surly.
The historic lobby
The derelict building that was to be our hotel was not connected to the main building. Room was dirty, lifts didn't work so had to use service lift, heater hanging off the wall in the hallway. Hotel was so bad we didn't stay. Felt that the hotel had been totally misrepresented.
It looked good and was well thought out, a fun place to spend the night.
But the double bed was unfortunately very uncomfortable, I think it was two singles pushed together hence you rolled inwards throughout the night.
I loved the look of the lobby.
In front of our door, the ceiling had fell down. I heard that there was going to be a major face lift.
It was convenient to my meetings. The neighborhood is hip and gentrifying with loads of public art and interesting shops and restaurants.
Once you get past the lobby, the facility is tired to the point of being creepy. Peeling wallpaper, inoperable elevators, and plastic sofa coverings in the room.
Location and tram
The staff was very accommodating after we decided to check out!
I wasn't please with the overall of the hotel or rooms.
The grand scale of the old station, the huge foyer, the platforms of historic rolling stock. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The rooms and hotel public areas were clean
Breakfast was extensive, a buffet, price for two at $37 was a bit high. The bill included a calculation for tipping of 18%, 19% and 20%, this was a bit in your face and I expect previous guests felt the price included the tip?
central location. Free bus service to downtown Chattanooga
undergoing a refit. Décor looking tired
If you love old trains like me then you have got to include a night at the Chattanooga choo choo in your travel plans. It is one if the elite "heritage hotels of America" and OMG they have done it so well. You walk into the foyer, which is as grand as any of the great old railway stations in America and restored to its former glory with huge domed ceiling adorned with fabulous architecture and art. This opens out onto the 'station' platforms with manicured gardens and the old trains waiting along the platforms. On entering the carriage, you step back in time- they have been restored with antique but comfortable furniture and functional facilities - just beautiful. I loved the experience. The buffet breakfast was good value at $12/ continental $6.50. Dinner was also interesting with waiters being singers/ entertainers - novel idea but food was not great and you have to pay double (30%)gratuity for service and entertainment. This is the only thing they need to work on for me and others to give this wonderful place 10/10.
Location and the fact that it is the original site of the railway. Station House restaurant Gardens
We chose to stay here for our anniversary because of the location. The location is the best part of this hotel with it being located downtown. There is a lot to do for everyone. Plus there is a lot to do at the actual hotel its self. Its a really neat place to visit. A/C in the room worked fabulously.
The parking is terrible and not very convenient. When trying to go into our building the door didn't work so another guest had to let us in, our room was also difficult to enter. The family next to us was so loud that we could hear her threatening to 'beat' her child for having an accident. The room was definitely not worth $150 for one night. The bed could use a better, thicker blanket, not just a thin blanket between two sheets. The bed and pillows overall need upgrading. After dinner we bought some drinks to put in a mini fridge we thought we would have in the room for that price, but there was not one. Would not recommend this place for someone looking to relax in their room.
we asked for a first floor room so we would not have to walk too much. We were put in the farthest building which had no ice, no elevator, and our room key did not work (3 times). It was too far to walk from bldg 3 to the main bldg and most of the shops were closed due to renovation. Also, the garden restaurant was only open for breakfast. We also were charged $14 to park our car! This was not worth $151.50 per night.
The staff was very friendly.
Main elevator was broken and had to use service elevator which was far away. Hotel was out of date.
Very much in need of maintenance. Nothing was open and the staff was not very knowledgeable.
The place is going through an overhall which will update some of the features (100 years old), so I'd like to see it after it's done! Kinda neat place if your into trains. Best area bars are in a 2 block area, so you can walk.
Dated carpets that were very dank smelling in the common areas. A lot of this will be resolved once the rennovation is completed. Not going to complain as the place is 100.
The room was large is about the only positive thing I can say about this place.
The hotel was old and needed a lot of updating. I felt like the website had not been truthful about the way it portrayed this hotel.
The staff was above average. Even though the hotel needed to be demolished five years ago they managed to keep the rooms really clean. We also enjoyed the history of the hotel.
The hotel is waaaayyy overpriced for what you are getting. All of Chattanooga's downtown revitalization efforts have been focused on the opposite side of town; leaving the Choo Choo surrounded by graffiti covered vacant buildings and an industrial plant. Also, the Choo Choo property is made up of three hotels. I can only speak to the one we had but it was nearly time for demolition. Very old, old carpets, disfigured lamp shades, etc. The Choo Choo would be appropriately priced in the $70 - 80 per night range.
There was a staff member that was not very customer friendly. We had asked for a shower curtain and for extra towels. We don't know why there was no shower curtain but there wasn't. We made the initial call and was told that someone was on their way but didn't show up. We called again and got put on hold and no one ever came back on the phone. Finally, someone showed up with the shower curtain and just handed us the shower curtain and left. We asked for towels again and asked for someone to put up the shower curtain. The same person showed up and gave us what we had originally asked for. That was ridiculos. Another time I had requsted that we have someone clean our room especially the bathroom. The beds were made and trash was taken out but the bathroom was not cleaned properly. The same stains were still there. Room also needs updating.
the history and the railroad connection
The room and the hotel, in general, were rather tired.
The gardens are kept beautifully. The shops & restaurants there are great. The staff was great
We were in "Hotel 3"and the hall smelled like urine. Had to use the service elevator - not convenient. We were in a non smoking room but still a strong smoke smell. There was a dog in a room down the hall that barked. The rooms were adjoining so the people in the next room were really loud. Disappointed. Didn't expect updated but Expected "vintage" instead got "tired looking", in need of some upkeep.
We liked the size of the room and the proximity of the property to the electric shuttle.
We stayed in building 3. The elevator was out of service and the property was very outdated and shabby. There was a pool light that was floating in the water and was not repaired during our stay. This place needs an overhaul. Overpriced.
the smell of sewage outside the hotel. quality and price of the food at the restraunt. mold in the showers.beds were not comfortable. needs updating
