For the price I thought it was great! It was very clean and had everything I needed for my quick stay. It felt safe and the people were very nice.

I liked many essential qualities that are quite the opposite of today's standard. The place is small. The attention from staff is direct, personal, human. The location is perfect if you're seeing friends or doing business in Chelsea. The accommodations are simple, almost homey. The model of design is of an old house, not a sheik's palace. And of course the price is modest by any standard.
The best thing about this hotel is the location, very close to transportation and fun things!
The bathroom was out of service for a long time. Used one that was available downstairs in another room area and that toilet didnt have a toilet seat, a little challenging for women.
One of the front de s k people extremely unresponsive, unfriendly and unhelpful. Maintenance person c ould not respond on weekends to address maintenance problems. Bed was horrific. No elevator so very long stairs made heavy bags a nightmare. The phone did not work in the room and it was never fixed even though i to, d every front desk employee. Nobody but one front desk lady and the maintenance acted like they cared.
Staff is not friendly Towels and bed linen look old and not so clean Breakfast is not included: you get a 3 dollars coupon for each day but only a cup of coffee will cost you more
No electric kettle to make a cup of tea before early morning start.
If you don't expect too much then it's a good place to stay. Nevertheless, it can seem a bit expensive especially after the taxes are added. I paid almost $1,500 for 7 nights while the price advertised in bold on Booking.com was just over $1200.

The staff was very friendly and was quick to fix an issue we had with the heat in our room.
The first night there was very cold -- heat was not working and very cold draft coming in through the window, which was right by the head of the bed.
The location was absolutely perfect, Chelsea and Greenwich on the doorstep which were both fantastic places to be. Right next door was a secret bar which was 1920's themed and had fantastic cocktails. The place was very clean, cleaners came in every day with fresh towels and toiletries. Easy to get to midtown and easy subway access.
The decor was a shame, as it was very dated. The shared bathroom was clean but behind a door linked with another room so had to unlock another door to get to it.

The location was the only reason we booked as it was handy to our niece. I doubt this will be sufficient to encourage a second stay unless there are renovations.
The hotel was tiny and desparately in need of a serious overhaul. We did not have any street noise but we could not sleep because of the plumbing noises and thin walls. Thankfully our room was on the ground floor as I doubt we would have been able to get ourselves and our luggage up the narrow stairs.

On our departure day (8 december 14) staff at front desk was very unfriendly. No attitude for customer service. Reception is not open h24, so if you have a late evening flight you have to bring your bags with you. Luggage store is open only during front desk opening time. For a shared bathroom for USD 200 per night next time better to spend more dollars to have a basic comfort.

The bed. Heating dirty and noisy expensive Need any thing more? The Bed was small, cold air came through the window, the heating was just next to my head so I found my self with a overheated head and freezing legs! I ran away after a day though I paid for days

Young receptionist never greeted anyone quite sour, we locked key in room one day took 2hrs for someone to come unlock while we waited sitting on stairs got in 12-30am finally. Room very noisy constant banging of pipes direct behind head of bed throughout night, also walls thin could hear next room every time they used toilet/bathroom also all hours. Radiator heater in room kept making hissing noise also though out night not very safe as extremely hot.
I booked here after a last minute accommodation change. I was in the shared bath and bedroom on the third floor. The room was definitely old but in good shape. Bed was not a five star bed but I can sleep on most things. Bathroom had just been redone and was clean. I think I shared it with 1 other room.
Front desk has limited hours (9-9) so when I needed to check out in morning I was left waiting for the desk to open. Also, there are no elevators to be prepared to carry all your things up stairs.
Very bad wifi reception on the 4th floor, and small beds (very short). There was some mouse poison in a cupboard under a sink, let's hope that was precautionary...

Location was ideal
checking in was a fiasco. Their credit card system was down. They told me to either come back in a couple hours to check in, or they would take cash. They already had my credit card from booking and wanted my 4 days of staying in cash?? Then they tried putting me in a room with shared bath, after I book studio with room. Things finally got settled, however the late desk person didn't want to give me my cash back when the credit card system was working. Told me to speak with the morning desk clerk if I wanted my cash back. (who was very nice, and apologized.) bathroom was not as clean as I would have liked.
I was most pleased with the staff who very welcoming and accommodating throughout the stay. The room was fine - all the necessities and great value for the money.
I did not dislike anything. And I had no complaints.
