Rooms are very old, dated and less than 2' between the bed and the wall on all 3 sides of the bed. Not even room for a small desk. The bed was like sleeping on a concrete floor with concrete pillows. The whole building looks like it was renovated in the 70's and hasn't been renovated since.
The Service and breakfast was great. The staff was very friendly. The location was excellent since there aren't many options in the heart of Chelsea.

Few hiccups here and there.
Not a commercialized boring hotel.

My only complaint is that the pillows here were not very good.
The staff, location and ambiance of this hotel was one of the best I've had. My boyfriend and I like to stay overnight in ny every so often each time trying to stay somewhere different. We choice Chelsea Pines because of the location: very close to meatpacking (where we were having dinner), the highline and the chelsea markets. The gentleman at the front desk asked us why we were in the city and I offhandedly said we were very belatedly celebrating my boyfriends birthday, when we later went up to the room there was a birthday card as well as chocolates waiting for us--very impressive! The breakfast was wonderful, complete with a nespresso machine, variety of spreads etc. wonderful!

Lovely little hotel with charming staff and a totally adorable pet cat. Very well stocked breakfast bar. Great location with close subway with direct line to 42nd Street - Time Square

The staff were so helpful; couldn't do enough for you. quirky, comfy rooms. Great location

The same cost of a single room single occupancy as compared to slightly bigger double occupancy rooms.
The warm front desk managers, all knowledgeable, good guides and always ready to help. Bathrooms too small. Single room has no special tariff though size and amenities are minimised as per single room.

Steps are ateep to rooms. Okay for me but probably not older travelers or those with physical disabilities
Location. Friendly staff. I felt taken care of and made to feel welcome. Could not believe this was an NYC hotel experience!!

We initially had a room on the fifth floor and it was a steep climb up the stairs. The rooms were oddball because the building had been transformed into an inn. The quirkiness was kind of charming.
Enjoyed the quality breakfast and the thoughtfulness of providing coffee, hot cider, and biscotti throughout the day and evening. We always could count on staff for information and tips.

The only thing We disliked was leaving!
We have been to NYC so many times and this place is great. Especially if thi is going to be your first visit to NYC you should stay here. The strength is really the staff and the incredible personal touch and you absolutely can not beat the location.

Wonderful staff. Perfect location.

The staff was really friendly, the breakfast was great. I stayed for a week and the location is very good, very close to Chelsea market and nice restaurants. CSV on the corner.

The location. The value. The staff. The comfort. The home like feel.

I've never had a hotel/B&B service like this one. The breakfasts spared no luxury. Each staff member was both approachable and personable. We didn't travel with a pet but we thought it was a great accomodation.

The cleaning staff regularly moved my things, free water means you will get 2 free waters for the entire stay, room extremely small and very old for such price (you can find 2x sized room for 1/2 price), internet basically unusable,
Comfortable bed, great placement of the hotel

The staff were charming, thoughtful and welcoming - beyond duty
January 20, 2015
The only negative was the walk up to our room on the 5th floor (but the room was perfectly quiet as we were at the top of the building). If you are not able bodied this is probably not the best choice for you.
The staff was welcoming and happy to help with any request - from holding our luggage before check-in when we arrived early, to holding it for us for a few hours after check-out! The breakfast featuring hard boiled eggs, meats, breads, cereals, yogurts and a variety of jams and fruits was just the thing before heading out into the city. The bedding and towels were comfy and plush. The standard deluxe room was large by NYC standards and had everything you could think of to make your stay a pleasure. Best of all - and this is a pet peeve of mine - it is the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed in! We are a mature couple that have stayed in many hotels in NYC. Simply a lovely experience. We will be back.

Walking the steps to get to my 4th floor room as there is no elevator. The room was small to the point of being difficult to navigate at times.
The comfort of the room and the small personal style of the hotel. The room, though very small, was both quite functional and comfortable. It worked well for a single traveller. The room was well soundproofed. I didn't hear a sound all night. The proximity to the subway made travel around town a breeze. The complimentary breakfast was a great bonus.
