Room comfort. Bed was awesome! Private bathroom came as a surprise. Very clean. Nice lounge area. Very relaxing, and you even have guitars you can play. Coffee in the morning. Staff was helpful. Location is great!
No lift. No breakfast (only coffee and tea).
I was astounded by the charm, comfort, affordability and coziness of this hotel. I live in New York City and arranged a stay at Chelsea Star Hotel for a visitor. We were both very happy of its location and the friendliness of the front desk staff. Highly recommended. Thank you. K
Friendly staff, location,price
Wi fi did not go well
They were rebuilding the place. But that is only temperory.
New as is recently furnished
The wifi is so weak and is equal to no wifi. The staff asked me to sit in on the stairs to have best reception, what kind of suggestion can this be? They wanted to play design cool line theme, but the room design is just totally error...
Could walk anywhere, rooms were clean, staff were helpful
Room was very small - - suited our stay because we were out all day. Television didn't work.
The last time I stayed there I would not have recommended it to anyone. Now it appears to have been bought out and is being renovated. Moreover I was given an upgrade to a room that was quite nice, with an ensuite bathroom, which changed my opinion of the place. The location could hardly be better, one block away from Penn Station, with an unbeatable price for midtown Manhattan.
This hotel is on a corner and there is much traffic noise from the two adjacent streets, quite a bit even in the middle of the night. There is no elevator which may be significant if you have a lot of luggage. This is not a luxury hotel by any means; in fact it is the opposite. You may be apprehensive upon entering the front door. But its location and the price make up for the shortcomings.
Loved the location. Once we were in a room with a bathroom it was all good. Upgraded for a reasonable amount.
In room with no bathroom, 2 hangers, 2 small drawers, no hooks or place to put anything, Hung wet towel on TV. Shared bathroom had no place to hang anything! No soap and no paper towels. Pictures on-line don't represent new hotel look.
Friendly staff, cheap price. Good if you don't plan to spend much time in room.
Shared bathroom, tiny room, very noisy. Currently under new management and reconstructing-- lobby was a mess.
Fully renovated stylish rooms with flat screen tv, but better take the superior room with bathroom inside. Modern Lobby with lots of flower. Middle garden is so beautiful. Staffs so friendly. Great locations, minutes away from penn station, shops, restaurant & bar..
If you decided to stay in a standard rooms just be aware coz there's not many shared bathroom. I think only 1 shared bathroom per floor. The internet connection is unstable especially on the 4th fl. Cable TV isn't working well.
bathroom (you have to share ) Internet service under construction small tiny room put your staff on the floor
everything is different from the description online.
too expensive a lot of nice
Location and staff
The construction work
very pleasant staff
street noise - the hotel is located on the intersection of two busy streets full on construction rooms and facilities are not suitable for a living hotel photos do not reflect the actual state of it rooms are tiny (closet size) shared bathrooms are unfinished after renovation
Localisation. Comfortable beds. A/C OK. Room OK. Would have been a good ** hotel if it was not of the active (really noisy and dangerous for kids) construction/renovation site in the terrace/reception. The terrace will be pleasant after the works.
Faucet broken. My kids washed their teeth in the shower! And then, the shared bathroom at my level was not available. Really dirty shared bathroom. No ice in the building. Impossible to have an ice bucket to refresh drinks. You can find an iron but nothing to iron on (weird). Incongruity of equipments. Check in process was very long. We consider that we should have been informed beforehand that the hotel was in important renovation: not fair.
Staff tried to accommodate us and did give us an additional room. We were three people planning on sharing a suite. However, there is no elevator and one member of our party was recovering from a major leg operation. We were given two rooms on the first floor but still had to walk up a long staircase. Staff did try to help us under very taxing conditions Location is just four blocks from Penn Station and MSG.
No elevator Did not know there was construction Stop work order on door Hard to find with paper signs indicating hotel No outdoor area due to construction.
Great Location Medium Prices (considering the location) Reasonably Clean
Very Small Room No Bathroom in Room Renovation was being done when i stayed so place looked a bit off but maybe it will be fixed once they are done with the place
Everything, esp service and location
At first the outward appearance made me leery (re renovations) but once we got inside, it was great. The front desk staff are obviously in the right business. They were amazing. Bahama Mama
The staff are great, friendly and very helpful. They helped me find my way around the city and gave me useful tips on places to visit. Even though it was under renovation the premises were quite clean.
Just a little bit pricey
The location. Period.
Lot of dust on the carpet in our room because of the works. The locker of the shared bathroom didn't work. No wifi in our room despite of the promises. Works for remodeling began at 8am, just near the occupied rooms. The A/C was so noisy it was impossible to sleep while it was on. Oh, it was new... No double glazing (on the BRAND NEW windows !), with view on the 8th Avenue just in front of the Madison Square Garden. Just imagine. We were asked to pay $2 per bag to let them before we took the train, after a small arguing, we let them for free. Not sure if these $2 are the usual hotel policy. Very weird. To conclude : we felt like they didn't want to close any floor even with the heavy works, in spite of a awful service.
Stayed here for 2 days to see New York , Perfect for a place to stay if your are seeing the sights of New York during the day and just sleeping in the hotel at night !! good value for money !!
The wireless and the long stair case
The rooms and the location was quite nice!
The stairs. Our room was on the top floor!
The picture of the room online was nothing what it was when i arrived
