Score from 424 reviews Very good
good location, fine facilities, everyday morning coffee and tea, a couple of restaurants and bars around
Too much noise and less toilets for guests to use
The location is perfect, The price is affordable and the forniture is new
The wi-fi connection was very bad, some times of the day we couldn't even connect to it. No matter what, every single day at 9 am, the hotel put a very loud music without any consideration tha almost every room has a speaker outside the maindoor and even if it seems that they realized that the music is to loud, they turn the volume down and then turn it up again even louder... I don't know, but I seemed to be in amilitary camp for that reason. Some night we couldn't breathe due to the high temperature in the room, we asked to staff to turn the heat down but it didn't change for both of the times we asked.
Friendly staff Easy access to everywhere Reasonable rate
Under renovation Hairdryer not equipped as advertised
Location is adjacent to Penn Station and convenient. Room had small kitchen and fridge, that was handy. Relatively modern decoration, but dated and broken switches, towel racks...
Basement room with windows opening to street level. Separate from main hotel. Window A/C, requiring shades to be open to get cool air, thus exposing the room to street. No housekeeping done during our stay.
The hotel's location is very convenient and the beds are good.
Manhattan is a very noisy and crowded place. Of course that is not this hotel's fault. But for the price I paid here I do expect a bit of rest at the end of a long day. However, it seems as if no effort was made to reduce the noise in the building. When people are talking in the hallway, it's as if they're right in the room. The general unrest is exacerbated by the background music that plays constantly (why?) I will not choose this hotel again.
God bed, bathroom and service. Near to Penn station, walking distance to Time square. Good price for what you get. No breakfast but next to subway.
- very close to NY attractions - free wifi - complimentary tea and coffee in the morning - the guy helped us carry the luggage to the reception which is on the 1 st floor - they upgraded us to a better room once we complained about the heating
- the room we were given did not have a switch to turn on the heat and we were freezing. The AC was badly designed as there was no way to fully close the window, thus a lot of noise from the street. - there is no place to hang your clothes while changing in the shared bathroom - after we have complained about the cold in the room , we received a better room on the 4th floor. The second day they said the heating system was fixed and we could return to the same room. We did not want to go through the same hassle again and accepted the other choice of paying 30 dollars extra to keep the new room. - the hotel seems to be run by kids with no experience in customer service. - the cleaning lady entered to room on 8 30 am without knocking - you have to pay 5 dollars per luggage to keep them there once you check out
Great position close to Penn station and city bike sharing spot. Nice garden where having breakfast.
The street is very noisy and they have old windows. The staff is not polite or kind. They charge 5$ each bag you leave in storage.
the place is beautiful, courtyard and outdoor space is a total oasis and surprise, Location is perfect! Staff was great and very helpful. Perfect if you are in town for any event at Madison Square Garden.
trying to come up with something... Nothing coming to mind
Great staff, very helpful and friendly.
Not so clean, WiFi was not working for 3 days out of 5.
Shared bathroom, but if it's what you can afford....it's ok, get up early to shower
We were accommodated the next day to a room that satisfied our needs. Young men working at the hotel were very helpful while we were changing rooms. Carried luggage from room to room. Turned out to be a fantastic stay.
Our first night was a mix up. Didn't get the room we asked for . One of our group members had to sleep on two ottomans put together so we can have a room together.
The area was great Friendly staff Spacious room Overall a great stay (8days)
When the room was serviced (twice) the sheets were not changed No ice machine anywhere in the building Music plays pretty much 24/7
Great location -- good price. The room was VERY basic but perfectly clean and comfortable. Receptionists were friendly.
Music was piped into the hallways during parts of the day and I could hear it from my room. Luckily when I came back from dinner it had stopped.
The lobby atmosphere and the courtyard. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
No elevator or assistance with the luggage. The stairs are steep and narrow. Did not have handrails up until last day there.
Decent price for the location.
Rooms were renovated but some were still being worked on so if the rooms were all finished it would be nice. Had a room with no A/C in the family room the last night and when asked for a fan non was provided and no other accommodations.
Staffs were very nice and polite. They were easily accessible, if there was a problem or some kind of stuff.
However, I couldn't go to sleep like until 5am because even though window was closed, when the truck passes by (I am not quite sure whether it's because of my room's location of the hotel), your bed vibrates. Lot of times, I had a difficulty of accessing Wifi in the room.
Internet did not work some of the time Limited browsing
Really small and comfortable hotel with exellent location
I recomend to change the staff (mainly chinese woman)
The "riff" is a newly refinished budget hotel where despite its sheek new outside you can tell the quality is not there. Everything looked nice and was clean when we got in, but there are still cracks at the bottom of the walls. The staff was very helpful and international in case English is not your first language. You can even store your luggage here for $2 a day.
While sitting and talking in our room we came across our 3rd roommate. We only saw the mouse once, but be aware that there are mice here. The shared bathrooms got very dirty and 1 of the 3 toilets stopped working.
Staff was very friendly Area was safe
Room was smaller than advertised. Not enough bathrooms and showers
Excellent location and quiet hotel
A little but noisy from the streets
Chelsea Hotel is just 2-3 mins walk from the Penn Station.
friendly staff Great decor comfortable bed Very good place to stay
It's a New York thing - serving hot drinks in paper or plastic cups - seems tacky to me and isn't good for the environment.
Newly renovated and the private room where we stayed was nice
New York is noisy and so is the private room facing the road. The airconditioning unit was not new so made some additional rattle.
