location is ok
Staff,location - brilliant !
Quite noisy, room very small, but if you need just place where to sleep,it's fine.
Room comfort. Bed was awesome! Private bathroom came as a surprise. Very clean. Nice lounge area. Very relaxing, and you even have guitars you can play. Coffee in the morning. Staff was helpful. Location is great!
No lift. No breakfast (only coffee and tea).
I was astounded by the charm, comfort, affordability and coziness of this hotel. I live in New York City and arranged a stay at Chelsea Star Hotel for a visitor. We were both very happy of its location and the friendliness of the front desk staff. Highly recommended. Thank you. K
Friendly staff, location,price
Wi fi did not go well
They were rebuilding the place. But that is only temperory.
New as is recently furnished
The wifi is so weak and is equal to no wifi. The staff asked me to sit in on the stairs to have best reception, what kind of suggestion can this be? They wanted to play design cool line theme, but the room design is just totally error...
Could walk anywhere, rooms were clean, staff were helpful
Room was very small - - suited our stay because we were out all day. Television didn't work.
The location - close to Penn Station. That was it. There's literally nothing else I can recommend about this "hotel" and you should stay far, far away. This place should be reported to the BBB and shut down.
Requires the whole stay's sum up front - after staying here, I can see why... Horrible, cramped rooms - the bed takes up 75% to 80% of the floor space. Yet they have the audacity to call this a "suite" Shared bathrooms No hot water in the showers. Seriously - the water is not even moderately heated Poorly-functioning air conditioner Tried to charge me for "guides" to NY that I never saw but supposedly took from my room Currently renovating & trying to rebrand itself as the "Riff Hotel" - the City of New York has placed multiple notices on the property's front door noting the unsafe working conditions Narrow, dangerous stairwells Incredibly noisy
Very Clean Staff very nice Very close to Madison Square Garden, if this matters to you. Easy walk to Midtown, Theater District. Convenient to Lincoln Tunnel and Subways.
Took a long time to check in. Up two flights of stairs, one steep flight from street (with no handrail) to the first floor, and one flight (ok) to 3rd floor with room. Nice outside "deck" with many umbrellas, but it had been raining, so all seating was soaked. I'll bet they can do better in this regard, with an awning or some such. Wi- fi just adequate in room. They can do better here as well. Noisy air conditioner in room. This worked fine, and it masked outside nyc noise, but even on "low" it was pretty loud.
the transact staff is very bad besides the boss and its location is very bad
Helpful and friendly staff, decent location, the price isn't terrible for NYC
Tiny room, the whole place was in the middle of a renovation and little things were still missing I.e a mirror in the room, a bathmat in the shower, the tap in the sink didn't work properly
The last time I stayed there I would not have recommended it to anyone. Now it appears to have been bought out and is being renovated. Moreover I was given an upgrade to a room that was quite nice, with an ensuite bathroom, which changed my opinion of the place. The location could hardly be better, one block away from Penn Station, with an unbeatable price for midtown Manhattan.
This hotel is on a corner and there is much traffic noise from the two adjacent streets, quite a bit even in the middle of the night. There is no elevator which may be significant if you have a lot of luggage. This is not a luxury hotel by any means; in fact it is the opposite. You may be apprehensive upon entering the front door. But its location and the price make up for the shortcomings.
Loved the location. Once we were in a room with a bathroom it was all good. Upgraded for a reasonable amount.
In room with no bathroom, 2 hangers, 2 small drawers, no hooks or place to put anything, Hung wet towel on TV. Shared bathroom had no place to hang anything! No soap and no paper towels. Pictures on-line don't represent new hotel look.
The room was not at all what was described in the booking; there was no foldout couch at all, the room was extremely small, WiFi would barely connect, tv connection was spotty at best, if you closed the blind it blocked the a/c leaving the room a bit warm, shower head fell off while trying to adjust it, hot/cold were backwards on shower faucet, hotel had a name change that was never mentioned in booking and the stars leading up to the "reception" area were not even. Would definitely not recommend and not stay here again. Disappointed!!!
Friendly staff, cheap price. Good if you don't plan to spend much time in room.
Shared bathroom, tiny room, very noisy. Currently under new management and reconstructing-- lobby was a mess.
The place is fairly clean and at a decent location.
First off the receptionist was incredibly rude and unprofessional, their key system was down so me and my group of friends did not have a key to our room (we had to ask the receptionist to open our door for us every time) and on top of that the hotel placed a hold of over three hundred dollars on my bank account when I had already paid for the stay in cash. Overall good hotel but awful reception and service.
Fully renovated stylish rooms with flat screen tv, but better take the superior room with bathroom inside. Modern Lobby with lots of flower. Middle garden is so beautiful. Staffs so friendly. Great locations, minutes away from penn station, shops, restaurant & bar..
If you decided to stay in a standard rooms just be aware coz there's not many shared bathroom. I think only 1 shared bathroom per floor. The internet connection is unstable especially on the 4th fl. Cable TV isn't working well.
bathroom (you have to share ) Internet service under construction small tiny room put your staff on the floor
everything is different from the description online.
too expensive a lot of nice
