Some problems with heating system. We never found where handled it. Sometimes it felt cold, but it was'nt something that bother us too much. A SUGGESTION: A LONG MIRROR FOR THE LADIES WOULD BE A SUCCESS! :-)
A group of friends have just returned from the chic & and budget hotel. The stay was absolutely wonderful. The apartment was perfect, just what we needed. Perfect location, close to manhattan, to washington heights, the bronx, brooklyn and queens. Accessible to bus and train stations. Many shops around and delicious soul food restaurants. Burt was very helpful and provided us all that we require. In addition, always was accessible. We gave us really helpful information about the area. I JUST HAVE TO SAY: BELIEVE THE GOOD REVIEWS , BECAUSE THEY’RE REAL. DEFINITELY THIS WILL BE OUR CHOICE EVERY TIME WE COME BACK TO NYC.

This is not really a hotel, it's more like you are staying in a shared apartment. There is no reception or front desk. You need to call the hotel one hour before arriving, so they can come over, meet you, and give you the keys. This works, but if your flight is delayed for example, it causes extra stress because you know they are waiting for you. The heater for the entire building was literally inside a closet in my room. Even without earplugs it was deafening. There is an above ground traintrack a couple of 100 feet away. Trains coming through are very loud. The shared bathroom is very small and uncomfortable. You can barely close the door and there is nothing to put down any of your toiletries. There is a towel to step on when you come out of the shower and it appeared to be dirty. Although connection with the subway is convenient, it is still a long ride away from downtown Manhattan.
The owner, Alex, is a friendly guy, very willing to work with you and to inform you about getting around the city. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Two different metro stations are only a couple of minutes away.

Everything was perfect. Big, clean, beautiful apartment in Harlem. Big comfortable room (we had shared double bedroom). Very well heated which is great since February in New York is extremely cold. Shared facilities have everything you need. The host Bert is so nice and helpful! He is easily reachable and will answer your every question.

Couldn't stay longer.
When I told the missus we were staying in Harem for a secret valentines weekend away, she was pretty apprehensive, however getting there was a breeze and we met Burt who was just a pleasure, talking us through everything we needed to know and answering questions. Everything you need is in walking distance, and it's far enough out of the city to get proper city living. After this trip, the missus is really happy to go back and stay in the same place with no problem.

The location. It is in Harlem in a quiet place but close to everything. The apartment was clean, has lot of space and was comfortable.

Area a bit noisy on a morning! But then it's a busy city.
Friendly and informative representative (Bert) text on arrival and took us through the use of apartments. Helpful local advice on getting to downtown, as well as local facilities.

Hot water was ok but sometimes didn't last. In residential area close to centre of Harlem but away from tourist areas that provide feeling of safety.
Spacious apartment. Comfortable and clean. Owner gave good advice. Well located for travel to downtown Manhattan.

Area can be dangerous even close to the metro statıon. Very very hard to find, even at night a taxi from the center, especially at night if I'm in a bar attached hard return. Overall this is harlemm ;)
The host is super friendly, polite and considerate. He ringed me the day before and informed me about the transportation. He also spent his time telling me the entertainments around Manhattan. The Chic&Budget is clean and affordable in price.

One of the best accommodation bookings ive ever made. Highly recommended

The taxi fair from JFK was exorbitant. Including tolls and tip around $70 each way. I would suggest that you use the airtrain and the metro. It's fairly easy but will require a few changes at Jamaica and Penn. you can save a lot of money this way.
The first thing is Bert. What a helpful person. Facilities are enough for ones needs and the pricing from what I saw in New York was also fair, accommodation seems very expensive so this was one of the cheaper options. It was fairly easy to get to and from the city and the Metro service was $30 unlimited for a week. On the walk to the metro there are restaurants and pubs which makes it convenient. The area felt safe enough and if like me you come from SA you will find no problems. I will say I was back by midnight everyday. But overall it was a great experience to stay in Harlem.

I like everything' about this hotel actually feel like home more than hotel.

The apartment building was surrounded by boarded up buildings, and most importantly, the amenities were very poor - the linens were not fresh or of good quality, there was no bath mat, etc. The bed was not very comfortable. The price was equivalent to a nice hotel but there were no perks for a short stay. (Perhaps for a longer stay the extra futons, flat screen Tv and kitchen may have been more useful).
The staff was friendly and accommodating as far as greeting and making flexible arrangements for check-in and check-out; the location, though not itself great, was located close to the subway It had ac

The apartment is some distance above the core sights of Manhattan and so it wasn't always possible to get back to the flat for a change of clothes post going out in the evening, especially when visiting further away areas like Brooklyn. Don't let this deter you though - if you're looking for an awesome apartment in NYC you won't find one better priced.
Bert (the owner) was so friendly and welcoming and gave us some great top tips for places to visit that we may not have discovered on our own - he even supplied a map with pinpointed sights on it and asked us what we were hoping to see. There was proper ground coffee provided for the perculator and the apartment itself was fantastic - clean, cool, well stocked, comfortable with TV, wifi and even a docking station for your I-Pod! The apartment was near to lots of great local facilities - 24 hour stores, restaurants, a couple of bars and the subway was 3 minutes walk (green line for high speed trains to East Manhattan) or 5 minutes (red line for West Manhattan) so it was really easy to get around. Despite its reputation, Harlem was no more or less threatening than any other urban suburb and we didn't feel so nervous walking about the area - I guess this is just down to what you're used to back home (urban England can be a whole lot worse!) Bert was also amazingly flexible - on the last day he let us leave our luggage in the apartment until later than the check out time so we didn't have to lug them around NYC all day! Thanks so much, Bert, and we'd totally recommend you to our travelling friends.

Can't really think of anything I didn't like would love it if they had an elevator but I knew they didn't and chose to stay there anyway.
Burt was very.accomodating and helpful. On check-in gave me a map of city & subway info. Answered any questions I had. the area was very well let me and I had no problem walking from the subway. I liked having access to the kitchen made coffee and hot tea. They had necessary dishes. Enjoyed visiting with other guests in the common areas. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
