Chinatown Hotel Chicago

Wonderful location, close to shopping and transportation. Very authentic, can get into the spirit of Chinatown. Friendly staff.

Met all expectations.

Room was very basic but for students who want to do a city trip and only need a cheap place to sleep it's okay. Could get a room on very short notice. There is free wireless which is a great plus given that at more expensive hotels you got to pay for internet. The location is super - right in the heart of Chinatown and very close to the train statio. And the best thing: the train never stops running. It comes at least every 10 minutes, even Sunday nights. And the beds - even though they looked strange were supercomfortable.

Some things were broken and not fixed. The walls needed to be painted. I don't expect much for the money but some standards should be met.

The rooms are very small and worn but clean. TV had limited channels. Room was too warm this time. Had been too cold the previous time we wtayed there.

The hotel was very near to the El station (Cermak-Chinatown). Getting to and from the Loop and other areas was easy.

Perhaps more resources to help sightseeing in the neighboring regions (like south chicago) woud be helpful

Convenience to the L (CTA) and my business (one stop). A dozen excellent dim sum places within a 3-minute walk. Free internet in the room. The staff is polite and helpful, although most have limited English and their restaurant advice should be ignored. One reviewer speaks of "cafares et autres insectes," presumably meaning cafards, cockroaches. I have stayed at this hotel a dozen times and never seen one insect. Other than that, I agree with the favorable reviews in French, Spanish and German, including Hartmut's mention of Sauberkeit, cleanliness, except that the rooms are mostly small, not "grands."

This doesn't bother me at all, but would be a barrier for some: there are no elevators. I climbed the steps to my fourth-floor room.

The price-room value was very low, it was not worth the price.

For the quality of the hotel and the location, it was ridiculously expensive.

Location was good for what we needed to do.

We had one night to eat out at a good restaurant in Chicago when we arrived. We were tired from our train trip. We asked the man at the hotel counter if he knew of any good restaurants to eat at. He referred us to a restaurant that served us a bunch of fat for dinner (true story), disguised with a sauce. It was, without question, the worst Chinese meal I have ever had in my life, and I used to live in East Asia for 3 years. How could he be so wrong about a restaurant? I will never know.

no security we had someone off the streets knocking on the door at 4am and anyone could walk into the hotel at night since there was no one at the front desk and the door wasn't locked

We were in the middle of Chinatown, and dining was very convenienent. Also, there is a CTA Red Line train station within walking distance. They have a "guest room" next to the lobby with free water, coffee and tea. There is also a computer with access to the internet. Parking is close and is affordable.

There is a lot of noise in the alley to the side of the hotel. We would often wake up in the early morning to the sound of a garbage truck or the banging of metal trash cans
