Staff were awesome Breakfast was great Upgrade without asking due to low bookings that evening Parking on site
There is nothing so charming as staying in an 18th Century Bed & Breakfast! This charming place takes you back to Ye Olde Dayes. From the four-poster, elevated bed to the creaky, narrow steps there is much to love here. And the proprietor is as charming! The homemade, made to order hot breakfasts are delicious, served in shifts in the homey dining room. It is small enough to allow conversation between guests to share their reasons for traveling to Newport. The location was a short block to the main shopping and restaurants. And the lodging price was an excellent value (off-season) considering what you were provided for the money. Off-street parking was available which is always a necessity. I recommend the Clarkeston Inn for any traveler interested in experiencing a quaint stay in a B&B in a great location for a great price.
Nothing noted with the B&B, except that I could not stay long enough!
Located a 5 minute walk from all Newport's nightlife...Very comfortable and clean. Dynamite staff
Beautiful inn with an even better brunch! The room we stayed in had a gorgeous fireplace and the shower had a double shower head. It was located in a nice spot near shops and restaurants. A little pricey but worth it. Will be back soon!
Really great people there (Joe was super nice). Room great. Nice appointments and we had room with working fireplace which is really nice. Bed outstanding! Sheets obviously very high end.
The carpets in common areas aren't the cleanest. They are needed to deaden sound and obviously hard to keep clean. I wouldn't want to walk bare foot on them tho.
Great location and friendly staff.
The staff was very helpful and the room was cozy and comfortable, complete with a four-poster bed.
The room we were givin was the Elm room. It was given to us as an upgrade. It was located several blocks away from the Clarkston. It did not matter to us as we love to walk. The Wynstone was a perfect upgrade. The room was fabulous with a huge bathroom with a huge Jacuzzi tub walk in shower and double sinks. The room has a fireplace and a king size bed. It was very clean and elegantly appointed. The staff were amazing breakfast was great each day. I am ready to book this location again within the next 2 months. Thanks to all who made our stay amazing.
-There was difficulty checking in (no one was there, and we had to wait 15 minutes). -Breakfast was in a very small eating area, and the service was very slow. -There was no sitting or common area in the "inn". -it was noisy when we were trying to sleep. -The room was a bit shabby.
Very close to Bannister's and Bowen's Wharf. Shopping and eating all very close. Walking distance to everything. Breakfast was great, and the staff was wonderful to talk to.
Bed was a bit uncomfortable - could just be that particular room.
The staff was friendly and very helpful..
There are often sitting areas in a bed and breakfast. I missed the early morning coffee and a place to sit and read the paper.
Very nice location, quiet street walking distance to everything you need in Newport. Full breakfast made to order with great staff. I will be back.
Parking is really tight.Although we had off street parking if I had to get out early in the morning I would have been out of luck. Our room was in the front of the building. In the summer you would be better off in the back for a quieter room.
Not much! The location was really good and the breakfast in the morning was good
First off the Clarkston is one of several properties that the owners have on the street so you can end up in any one of them Most are like rooming houses - you let yourself in with a key- no one to greet you The room decor is old, shabby and overall just out dated
Liked our big room. Easy access from the parking lot. Finally one with large counter space! Loved the morning breakfast and the setting.
Loved the decor. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The location was great. The bathroom was wonderful with a jetted tub.
Breakfast was standard fare. I think I was expecting something a little more unique. Maybe homemade muffins at least. It was good food. Just nothing out of the ordinary.
Staff was so friendly. Went above and beyond taking care of us.
Breakfast was a bit haphazard.
Breakfast was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful.
It rained. So sad for us.
One of the best reasons to stay at Clarkston Inn is the location. We were able to walk right down the street to the downtown and waterfront areas. There were lots of little shops and bars and restaurants. It was great not having to take the car as you would have to look for a metered spot or park in a lot. We also liked that we were given our choice for breakfast. We ordered from a small but adequate menu. Just remember that you have to sign up for your preferred time for breakfast. We liked Clarkston Inn and would stay there again.
We liked staying at the Clarkston Inn but one negative was the parking situation. The Clarkston Inn is associated with other inns on the street and parking lots are small. You may be staying at one inn and parking at another or even on the street. The inn was totally booked when we stayed there, so that contributed to the parking problem. I'm sure that when it is not completely booked, parking is sufficient. We were not made aware of the fact that you must sign up for breakfast. As they have different inns, they also serve breakfast at a location that might not be where you are staying. The inns are on the same street and just across the street from each other, so they are nearby. Each day you must look for the sign telling you where breakfast will be. It wasn't a huge problem, but if you don't sign up, you may not be able to eat when you want to. We saw people being turned away because they had not reserved a time and there was no room in the dining room. We really didn't mind different locations for breakfast because it gave us a chance to see other dining rooms and all the servers were wonderful.
The breakfast was just great. Have never stayed at a bed and breakfast where we got such an excellent full breakfast like you serve at the Clarkson Inn.
Rooms are a bit small but very satisfactory as we were sightseeing most of the time.
The staff was friendly, curtious, and helpful. Breakfast was cooked to order and good.
The mattess on the bed was awful, my husband and myself had the most horrible 3 days of sleep because we keep sliding into the middle. Guest should not be sleeping on the same mattess that Paul Revere slept on.
Room was spacious and the bed was amazing! Best sleep I've had in a while! Great tub with jets and the bathroom was quite big and very comfortable.
The room air conditioner was a bit annoying but we turned it off and opened the windows to let the fresh air in.
My boyfriend and I stayed Sept 19-21st. Very convenient to town. Only two blocks away from all the restaurants. Rick was courteous and very accommodating. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Our room was on the third floor of the main building it was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Can't wait to return!
We booked the Clarkeston but actually stayed in the Farragut Inn, another of the inns under the same ownership. We were moved because of road construction out front of the building. Although the Farragut was on the same street, it was the site of breakfast for all of the Newport Inns. The facilities were excellent and the staff very agreeable. Parking was on the premises. Location was great.
Breakfast was good, but service was understaffed, slow and confused. The waiter who took our orders was also the cook. We waited about a half hour each day to be served, and we didn't always received what we ordered. One other person bussed the tables and helped wait on the customers. Nevertheless, the food was good, and overall would not dissuade me from staying at one of the Newport Inns in the future.
Good location. Nice people. Good food. Nice room, bed was really comfortable. TV and Internet available.
Needed extra chair in room. Worst thing were the carpets, they needed a really good cleaning & probably maybe even replacement. No TV channel guide available. Would have liked an ice maker available.
