Located a 2-minute walk from Union Square and a classic Cable Car stop, this San Francisco hotel is in the heart of downtown San Francisco's shops, galleries and restaurants.
Score from 630 reviews Very good
The hotel is located near Union Square, where you can shop, go to the theatre, hop on a cable car or one of the many "Big Bus"-style tours of the city. My room was very spacious with a great bed (and a very small bathroom) and there was almost no street noise except the occasional police or ambulance siren.
A 2 minutes 15 seconds call back home to Dubai cost me 32 USD !!!??!!! This is outrageous... Also, internet access is now a commodity, not a luxury, and it shouldn't be charged extra.
This hotel is excellent. The location is perfect, and you can walk to most places in 10-15 minutes. Parking would be a problem, but we didn't have a car. The hotel was not busy, and the staff were all helpful and friendly. Our second room was large and well appointed. We did not have dinner in the hotel, but breakfast was excellent.
We checked in late, from the UK, and were given a very small room, with a tiny closet - not enough room to store our clothes for a 4 day stay. I complained, and we were given a much larger room for the duration of the stay - and they moved our luggage. Also I think it a bit rich to charge $15 a day for WiFi in your room.
Room was a little old but the mirrors added flair. Nice lobby and lounge.
Rooms were a little dated. Shower did not drain.
The service !
Staff was amazing...every item i inquired about was taken care of immediately.
THin Walls, still cant get the womans voice out of my head...Never wanted to her what she liked, and how
Nothing over the top just does the job
The staff was attentive and caring
The hotel had a Halloween party both nights and changed the whole feel of the place - it is very dark and a bit too trendy
All good, helpful staff great location
The bar gets very busy at night, not a place for a quiet drink.
Location General Ambience and local amenities
The duvet. It was too warm. A top sheet and blanket would be more comfortable.
Fab comfortable bed, beautiful cocktail bar and great staff.
location, the history of hotel, the room was fantastic, quiet, and huge big bed
The barmen at the redwood room was ignorant and the fact that hotel guests didn't get any priority anywhere
Lobby area was too dark for us
Hip, modern hotel, great amenities and location.
While the rooms of the hotel are new and modern, the "bones" of the hotel are old - ie you can hear a lot of sounds (plumbing, service elevators, creaking sounds, etc) Didn't bother me but if you are looking for an amazingly quiet place this might not be your best choice.
old plumbing , hotel too dark all over , $60 per day parking not worth $750 for 2 weekdays
we loved the room, especiallly the bed and bed. All very comfortable. the high ceilings and mirrors created a lot of "space" for the seize of room. we really enjoyed our stay.
the bathroom was a little cramped.
The ambience was cool, the room was huge for the price I paid, and the location was excellent for someone who only had 24 hours in the city. The staff were very helpful too.
Nothing, all good
Upon check-in as it was our honeymoon we were upgraded to a lovely room on16th floor, staff were very nice, friendly & welcoming. Room was fab & spacious with v good view. Bed was v comfy too. There's a great diner on the corner of the street for breskfast (Pine Crest). Great location, v close to union sq
Had arranged to meet a friend in the bar 1 night, when we went down we were told they were commencing a table service with minimum bottle starting at $325! It was a Wednesday night! When I asked if it applied to residents the hostess said she could give us a table for max 45mins. We were seated ordered cocktails, when our friend arrived the waitress who served us basically forced our friend to order a glass of wine asap trying to get rid of us. She was exceedingly rude and wanted us out so she could get higher tip off of the min. Bottle cost. Recommend hotel not the Red Bar in the hotel.
Very comfortable bed. Extremely nice toiletries. Proximity to BART and major bus routes.
WiFi cost was too high to consider using. The area was central but a little strange and dark at night.
Great bar, great interiors
Gym too small, rooms small and hard to navigate. Couldn't find the temperature control panel
The hotel staff were very friendly & helpful. After over a week in the desert at Burning Man & living in an RV, the Clift hotel offered me everything I needed in terms of comfort & a perfect location to see San Francisco. I would definitely stay there again & have recommended the Morgan hotels in New York to a friend who is travelling there later this month!
I didn't like the fact that you are charged extra to have wifi in your hotel room.
It's not the old Clift but what you see upon entering the hotel is a new concept of class and San Francisco's historic beauty with the still intact Redwood Room and superb staff that makes you feel royal.
The location is fabulous. Less than a five minute walk from Union Square, surrounded by plenty of restaurants and shops. Staff were professional and helpful. Modern décor.
There's free wifi in the lobby but you have to pay if you want access to it in your room which seems petty. There was fairly prominent graffiti on the back of the bathroom door which had not been removed.
Lobby & Staff Rooms were very clean
No ice machine, industrial toilet, no drawers, no top sheet for bed.
