Cozy, charming, neat, friendly, amazing location and yet quiet ! affordable, nice breakfast, nice music in the lobby, friendly staff, clean bathroom, good mattress and pillows. A little oasis in the middle of the buzz-city. I'm pretty well- traveled, this hotel is a gem. nothing

Its location is very convenient for travellers who arrive to JFK. 23d Street subway E line station is 3 minutes walk. This is the line which arrives to Sutpin Blvd station which is a junction to JFK Air Train. You don't need a taxi since it takes about a hour to get to a terminal. Besides you can easily walk to places in Manhattan like Time square, State Empire Building or pears close 42d Street for a water cruise.

There is an old-fashioned flavor at Colonial House, and the staff seem to be real people who care about their guests, so it's a refreshing break from Corporate Hotel Land. There are nice touches, like the second-hand novels scattered around to read, and the egg-white muffins baked by Gunther. There are real paintings in each of the rooms, I just don't happen to care for them.

We (young couple - 28 yo) stayed in this hostel during one week to visit ny. We spent a very nice time at this place. The bedroom (economy-cheap) was little but nice, confortable and clean (queen bed, sink, mirror, window). We had a shared bathroom always clean and available (morning and evening) ! The breakfast was very nice (cereals, some fruits, bread, bagel, hard egg, jam, butter, honey, tea, coffee, milk, juice ...). The location was perfect to visit Manhattan, very close to metro, between Central Park and the end of the island so very convenient to go in the north as in the south by walk ! And regarding the staff, everybody was very discreet. I hardly recommend this place to everybody because we really enjoyed our stay in this hostel and I think this hostel is a very good deal for this price.

The place was in a good location and it was very clean. It is an older style hotel/b and b so don't expect flash, and the rooms were small, but it was clean and homely.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great - on a quiet street, which felt safe, but very close to Chelsea Market (less than 10 min walk) and subway station (less than 5 min walk). There is also a supermarket on the same street, and several eating places within easy walking distance. Bathrooms were totally clean. The complimentary breakfast was wholesome and tasty. I would definitely stay here again. There were some recurring noises from the plumbing or heating, which can wake you up if you are a light sleeper. But this is a minor issue.

Frankie at the front desk was wonderful. The location was very close to the 8th avenue subway station which was a nice line to ride and see the city. The breakfast was delicious and the other guests were friendly. The water pressure in the shower was good (a plus for me). The housekeeping staff did a wonderful job cleaning the room daily. Very quiet during our stay both from other rooms and from the outside. There is a grocery store on 8th ave between 22nd and 21st (2 minute walk).

Staff was friendly, and the included breakfast was superb. The Ceilings were high and my room had a fantastic window view. For the price I paid, and having experienced other New York hotels before, I was pretty shocked at its good value. The room I stayed in was a little small, though pretty standard-sized for New York.

Great location, very pleasantly surprised the quality of the room considering the price for the location. Above and beyond what we expected and the breakfast was tasty too!! The heating was abit excessive, waking up sweating with just a sheet on!!

It is in a great spot for me to stay. Really like the location for visiting my son. The room was very nice and clean especially for the price. The fact that most of the guests that were at the breakfast were bare foot. I am in health care and that grossed me out. You should have to wear foot wear to sit and have braeakfast.

The location was wonderful, the staff was very friendly, the breakfast was wonderful, there was always someone at the front desk to let us in day or night, the price was EXCELLENT--we got more than we could have asked for with the price! Also, the Inn also stored our luggage for the day while we explored New York after checking out! If you have the chance to stay here don't think twice-this place is perfect for the budget traveler who is looking for quality basics! I will definitely be returning!

I liked everything about it, the street and the Chelsea neighborhood. I want to come back soon and stay in the same room I had - number 12. The procedure of having to leave and retrieve one's room key all the time was a bit trying but the desk staff were so nice and efficient, that it was a pleasure to comply with the house rule.

The staff is always courteous. The price is a bargain by NYC standards, and the rooms are clean and fresh. A tip- request room 28. It has a private bathroom, a nice fireplace, a giant 1840s window and is bright and cheerful. During the winter, the hotel is a very quick walk from the subway and it is easy to get taxis in this neighborhood. In other seasons you are near the Highline and, therefore, are a fast walk from ANYTHING located between 30th Street and Gansevoort Street. Great location, friendly staff, nice rooms.

Great B & B for an overnight stay when you need a change from the usual hustle-bustle cookie-cutter mid-town hotel chains. Not fancy but friendly, comfortable & cozy.
