Close to everything, ease of access, wonderful old world decore which would have been even better with an injection of loads of money...we had a great view of the lake and the park across from the hotel. Everything worked and the bed was very comfortable. There was an industrial dispute while we were staying there which did not affect us but it seems they do not employ union labour, not great that the hotel employs non union staff particularly in the hotel industry. |

The price of the room, the location of the hotel & how nice it was. We had trouble with 3 of the 3 games that we tried in the game room, and the hotel did not offer a change machine in the first place. |

The location, accross the street from Grant Park and near several world-class museums, was excellent. As an older hotel, there were several infrastructure problems, such as poorly regulated heat / air conditioning. Also, my bathroom was missing a door knob for the duration. But the bed and furniture were modern and comfortable, and the room was spacious with a great view of the lake. |

Size of the room There was no refrigerator in the room. Despite of the fact that I have paid my hotel bill in cash, my credit card has been blocked and it is not relerased by today |

Location was excellent. The closet was unbelievably small. They have begun renovations, but room still needs much more work to be updated. |

Good location on the Magnificent Mile. It was close to shopping and right across the street from Grant Park. For a closer location to the high end shops, stay north a few more blocks to the water tower. Rooms are a little old. |

The building is superb, historical and special. Hallways and rooms are spacious. Can't find such hotels in N. America anymore... Need food service at late hours, room service possibly for 24 hours. |

Really good location and friendly staff, huge room and bed (by European standards!), very friendly and helpful staff. The demo outside: there's a long and unresolved union issue ongoing. It's not a problem, but it would be good to resolve whatever the issue is. |

Centrally located between the downtown area and the conference centre and close to other hotels such as Travel Lodge (which offers free wifi, accessible from the Congress Plaza) and The Hilton and close to public transport and to Buddy Guys Legends blues bar (excellent). Also close to the museum of art and the parks. Rooms were large and spacious and beds were excellent. A little musty smelling on entrance, but otherwise very charming old style atmosphere. |

The interiors of the hotel are true quality. Very good hotel. The staff was lacking some basic elements of courtesy. |

I was attending SFN 2009. I liked the location (close to SFN busstop at Hilton/Essex) and the price (compared to Hilton). The history of the hotel was interesting Internet/email/business services were poor. If you want to attrack business travellers you will need to improve this. the PC in the second entry area would not operate properly to allow email access, and even then you should have 4-5 of them in a business centre. The rooms were OK. I don't mind old, but they are getting a bit run down. too many cracks and too much filler applied roughly. No clock in room. |

the old charm of th hotel and location. There was a strike going on while we were there, really didn't like that and it needed a bit of updating. |

The location was perfect for my teenage daughter and myself. I was near Columbia College for a conference and my daughter was not far from the university she toured. I think recent repairs do not match the original quality of the hotel at all. That is very unfortunate. |

The location was exceptional. If you are participating in the Chicago Marathon - this is the place to stay - only 3 blocks from start and finish line. Union protesting outside the hotel made it difficult to sleep. |
