The Standard - East Village25 Cooper Square, NY 10003 New York (Show map) Very good, Score from 173 reviews“Everything was just perfect from the location to the room itself. The staff was amazing and the little extras such as an afternoon snack left in the room each day was a very nice touch. The bed was incredibly comfortable! So comfortable, in fact, that it was difficult to get moving in the morning. ”

What we especially liked about the Cooper Square Hotel is that it represents a very different concept from a traditional Hotel. There were no formal check-in or check-out procedures. In the evening, when we returned tired after a long day walking around Manhattan, we could relax in the lobby with freely available wines and champagne. In a sense we felt like the guests at a wealthy friend's house, sort of like staying for the weekend at a nineteenth century country mansion, but in a modern urban setting (how much more modern and urban can it get than Manhattan). As in many romantic novels, the mysterious owner never appeared, but he had obviously instructed the courteous and efficient house personnel to make us feel at home and take care of all our needs. The décor is modern and yet cozy; the rooms have excellent natural light and very ample views from which you can appreciate Manhattan at all hours. We enjoyed having breakfast, lunch and dinner in house (short menu of tasty dishes); again the experience was more like being a guest at someone’s house than a patron at a restaurant. As usual in Manhattan space can be a problem and the Cooper Square Hotel rooms are no exception. We first checked into a room that was much too small. However, the Hotel then transferred us to one which had a reasonable size and where we felt comfortable. Guests must be careful about the fact that, due to irregular floor shapes (consequence of the Hotel’s modern design) a same room category might mean slightly different surface areas in different floors which, in view of the generally small sizes, might make the difference between feeling cramped or comfortable.

I like to stay at the Cooper Square Hotel because the rooms are extremely comfortable, clean and peaceful. It is so nice to come back to a nice, quiet room after a long day in the city. In addition, the staff is very accommodating and friendly. It's really nice to know the staff is there when you need them but there are not people all over the lobby. The door men were very helpful and appreciated their tip instead of expecting a tip. The resturants are wonderful and the housekeeping staff are terrific. I've stayed there 3 times and will definitely return. Thank you!

This was a comfortable, well-located hotel in the East Village, with trendy, sleek design and a buzzy environment. The rooms were extremely small for the price, even by nyc standards, and housekeeping lacked rigor.

Terrific views and beautiful sunlight in the room. Super location, walkable to lots of eateries, shops, subway. Interesting neighborhood, many different kinds of buildings to look at. In spite of being smack dab in the middle of a busy neighborhood, room was blissfully quiet at night. Room small but well designed--like staying in a cabin on a ship. Downstairs bar pleasant. Hallways ridiculously dark, only illuminated by exit signs and some arty tubes. Housekeeping flukey--we seemed to get something different every day in terms of glasses/no glasses, shampoo, etc.

The facilities are excellent for entertaining. The restaurant is great, the bar is cool and the vibe is hipster. Nice Location. Not a lot of room for the price. I stayed in the top tier room and although the views were awesome, the room was tiny. So tiny that that dont have king beds.

The room was very clean and comfortable The staff was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. Great location for the things I wanted to see. The lighting in the the halls and elevator is much to DARK! It was very hard to see the elevator floor buttons especially after being outside. The walls are black and the dim lighting just doesn't work, you need to be able to see where you are going! Just turn up the lighting in the halls and elevator and it will be a perfect place.

Trendy hotel; rooms are not big but very well arranged. Staff is friendly and attentive (to NYC's standards). Great bar / terrace / lounge. I like the location next to East Village.

Best TV/Cable package I've ever come across. Great shower, good bathroom. Great location and view. Comfortable bed/pillows. Good, functional room. Neighborhood menus were a nice touch. Housekeeping somewhat loud during the day. Carpet was dirty/stained. Price was high (I had to stay in that neighborhood, otherwise I would have stayed somewhere else).

It's closeness to the east village and great restaurants. The toilet in our room didn't flush properly upon check-in and instead of changing our room immediately the front desk decided to send the maintenance guy to our room twice - it still didn't work and forced us to get dressed and go downstairs in the morning to use the toilet instead of being able to enjoy breakfast in bed as we had planned.

It's location was keen and I liked that. I had my room walked into by 2 different people within a 10 minute period of time. After alerting security no results came of the matter. It would have not been an issue if this were a motel 6 but I paid a lot of money to stay at a nice place for my vacation and I did not feel comfortable not knowing if some random person was going to walk into our room? I wish that I would be compensated in some manner regarding this experience. Thanks for your time. - Clinton Perry

The feel and design of the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable too. The front desk very helpful and the great location. We noticed a leak in our room when we checked in. We advised reception and were offered a different room. As no rooms were available on upper floors as we had booked, we were upgraded to a corner room on the 5th floor which we were very pleased about as we had a lot more space to move and a bathroom with both shower and separate.

Nice, Euro style hotel. Perfect location in East Village, with Astor Place subway station 2 minutes walk away, and NYU-8th Street subway station 8 minutes walk away. Many, many restaurants and clothing shops within a 15 minute walk or less. Great staff, relaxed atmosphere. Everything was fine; no complaints at all.

“The atmosphere is perfect for charismatic people! The hotel is awesome!
