What we especially liked about the Cooper Square Hotel is that it represents a very different concept from a traditional Hotel. There were no formal check-in or check-out procedures. In the evening, when we returned tired after a long day walking around Manhattan, we could relax in the lobby with freely available wines and champagne. In a sense we felt like the guests at a wealthy friend's house, sort of like staying for the weekend at a nineteenth century country mansion, but in a modern urban setting (how much more modern and urban can it get than Manhattan). As in many romantic novels, the mysterious owner never appeared, but he had obviously instructed the courteous and efficient house personnel to make us feel at home and take care of all our needs. The décor is modern and yet cozy; the rooms have excellent natural light and very ample views from which you can appreciate Manhattan at all hours. We enjoyed having breakfast, lunch and dinner in house (short menu of tasty dishes); again the experience was more like being a guest at someone’s house than a patron at a restaurant. As usual in Manhattan space can be a problem and the Cooper Square Hotel rooms are no exception. We first checked into a room that was much too small. However, the Hotel then transferred us to one which had a reasonable size and where we felt comfortable. Guests must be careful about the fact that, due to irregular floor shapes (consequence of the Hotel’s modern design) a same room category might mean slightly different surface areas in different floors which, in view of the generally small sizes, might make the difference between feeling cramped or comfortable.

I like to stay at the Cooper Square Hotel because the rooms are extremely comfortable, clean and peaceful. It is so nice to come back to a nice, quiet room after a long day in the city. In addition, the staff is very accommodating and friendly. It's really nice to know the staff is there when you need them but there are not people all over the lobby. The door men were very helpful and appreciated their tip instead of expecting a tip. The resturants are wonderful and the housekeeping staff are terrific. I've stayed there 3 times and will definitely return. Thank you!

The view from our room at the 18th floor was fabulous.The price for New York was not astronomical.The area is not a tourist trap and has many little restaurants and bars,furthermore it is within walking distance of Soho,Gramercy and /or Chelsea. Central park ; Rockefeller center and broadway theaters are 10 to 15 minutes away by subway. The rooms are minuscule, the two drawers in our room so small that they were useless.Half of the closet is used for a noisy mini bar and a safe.All of this could be reviewed with a little know how and imagination at low cost The front desk is filled with young and nice people but inexperienced and who have limited knowledge of the area.This also could be easily reviewed

The location was excellent. The staff were generally professional and provided great support. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. Only comment I would make is that the wait staff serving the back garden were drifty to the point of incompetence. They wandered back and forth aimlessly most f the time and it was tough to get orders delivered.

It has a great vibe. Lots of activity, great location and a nice room. Loved the steam/shower. We had a room that could be joined with the room next door. The problem is we could hear everything said in that room as if they were in our room. One morning the woman started talking on the phone at 6 am and talked non-stop for an hour. This was annoying to say the least. They need to put better sound insulation on the doors to adjoining rooms or a sound curtain at the door. It was similar for the hall door, though no one was standing out there talking for an hour at 6 am.

Mattress was broken down with hole on one side. Notified Staff at 1:00 AM, They agreed was a problem but advised I sleep sideways as nothing could be done. I did. Billed $450 bucks for room. Cancelled 9 day stay and moved to another hotel. One of worst experiences in memory. Trendy and poorly managed hotel. Toothpaste stains on "fresh robe" and key that did not work on door without re programing couple of times. Broken bed and no attempt to even contact guest by manager, just present $450 bill for one night paid in full and in anger. Never again.

Having stayed at the other Standard hotel in the meatpacking district, I was apprehensive about the service. I was thrilled that the staff here was helpful and very courteous. No attitudes. The rooms were clean and quiet. Even though it is on a busy street that had construction going on nearby, we did not hear any street noise. It is in a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and close to the subway. My parents who don't travel and had never been to nyc, had a great time and were impressed with the staff here. Well done! In a small space, a fan would have been nice to keep the room from getting humid from showering....but I have yet to stay in a nice nyc hotel room that has one. No idea why the fan ban.

Comfortable bed and bedding. Wifi included. Great location - 3 minutes to Astor station subway. Good shower. Check out is noon. Extremely small room. Pricey. Snotty staff. No coffee maker or kettle in room and a $4 charge added to room service. 4 hangers in the closet, no drawers. I was there for a week and found that annoying. The bar is stocked with over price goods, but the fridge was a nice size and I was able to use it for my own breakfast goods. There are much better deals in nyc but I needed this location

The view on the skyline is amazing. * The customer service is really lacking in supporting customers (no answers to 3 email sent for support request) * The information and network security has some critical pitfalls because: 1. my credit card number I used for booking (the first and the only time I used it via booking.com) has been used for shopping in NY before my arrival in USA. 2. my AppleID undergo to hazardous attacks from USA when I was there (I only used my ipad with the WI-FI network of the hotel ) 3. someone tried to access to my email accounts from USA when I was there (I only accessed to my email from the wi-fi of the hotel).

Our stay in the Standard was very comfortable, the bed & pillows were the most comfortable we'v ever had in a hotel The location in the East Village was ideal for our needs. We booked on a flash deal so got it at half price, the hotel is a little pricey to eat or drink in, but there are many cheap places nearby. You are in walking distance to china town, Little Italy and the 9/11 Memorial is really worth a visit. The staff were very pleasant. The room cleaned every day was not huge but adequate size {806}

rooms & views were fabulous... I have stayed in Manhattan hotels a lot & the size of the room was very good compared to many others. Staff were very friendly & efficient. There was a problem with the booking when I arrived but this was dealt with quickly & expertly. As a location it is perfect for me. Right in my favourite area of town. If you want to book it as a day room it only runs round until 4pm... most places would do 7pm.

Excellent hotel. Great location, very comfortable and a good, relaxed feel. Excellent views of New York from our room (thanks to a room upgrade from the guy on receptIon). Have stayed here before and would definately stay again. The door guy was a little pushy of us using their cars rather than a taxi.

Great location! We arrived before the official checkin time, after a sleepless night, and were immediately given our room. The bed was comfortable and although the room was a bit small, it felt great to come back to. The shower was spacious and had this nice 'rain' shower head. Staff were very nice and were happy to assist in questions. The air condition was louder than we could bear - we had to turn it off when we went to sleep. When we complained about it we got the impression that the staff did not quite know how to handle this situation.

Interesting layout and lobby areas. When I was moved to 18/1 there was room for bags and people to sit and work.. Th original room 5/7 was too small and over-furnished. I liked the area, great shops and restaurants. The staff was very personable - remember ed my name, etc - and helpful i terms of directions, getting cabs, restaurant advice. The original was about the size of a Novotel in a small French town -- THe internet access would need to be refreshed very often.
