Score from 2106 reviews Very good
It had just one hill to get to it.
The bed, the breakfast and the French environment.
shower curtain smells a little. Wifi sometimes hard to be connected.
location, friendly staff, breakfast
shower curtain over bath. Duvet had sheets above & below but a duvet cover would have made it much more comfortable
Location very good. The evening meal in the restaurant was EXCELLENT
Quaint authentic European boutique experience. Very friendly staff, nice sized rooms with lots of light from bay windows. Awesome location walkable to a lot of cools stuff. Very good coffee and free breakfast.
No air condition, I would think twice during summer.
It's a charming old style hotel. They checked us in on paper sheets :) Very authentic, unrushed and comfortable atmosphere. The elevator like out of an old movie. Though old style and simple, everything was clean and worked well. Wifi worked well.
Room had poor view (rooftop)but understandable in location, french dinner restaurant closed during our 3 day stay..
Great location, complementary full breakfast, quite room for sleeping in rear of bldg, clean and comfortable, unique decor..
We have always stayed at the Cornell Hotel de France and would not dream of staying anywhere else in San Francisco.
Perfect location for exploring SF. Tram, buses, train and downtown on your doorstep. Breakfast is sufficient but not vast. Welcome is warm but not overbearing.
Room is a bit small, price could be lower
Excellent location, french style, very friendly stuff, breakfast is included
I felt as though I was visiting an old friend. The staff was so welcoming and charming from the time that we entered the hotel. I wish I had known about the quaint restaurant as I would have loved to eat there. We will definitely return.
Good location, cute place, but the room was so hot (in the winter) that even with the window open, it was too hot to sleep.
The location is excellent. The staff is friendly. The hotel has French decor and has special charm.
Nothing really but you should be aware that the double rooms all have normal sized queen beds. We found it ok but if you are two big persons it might be a problem.
The staff was very welcoming and always tried to assist with any request. The location is ideal just two blocks from Union square and two minutes walk from China Town. The breakfast was good and included in the room rate.
They helped me with booking.
City noises take us a little while to get used to
location is excellent, helpful staff, comfortable rooms laid out in a way that makes sense, tasty breakfast
Hotel was fine but just a little warning. The cable cars are cute but don't expect to use then as a mode of transport, more a tourist thing, catch a bus.
Good clean room, nice and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice. Decor was a little unique but very well done.
Great location, very easy to reach everything from the hotel. Breakfast was great, the staff was friendly. Clean but a bit small room, the design is not really my style, but still nice.

This hotel does not have air conditioning. I was concerned about leaving the window open for air because it had the fire escape landing right at the opening. Also the quaint looking claw foot bath tub just didn't work well for showering. The breakfast started at 7:30 on weekdays. Since I had to leave at 7:30 for a business meeting across town I did not get any value for the pre paid breakfast. They didn't have an option for getting breakfast early. I do not recommend this hotel.
The bed was comfortable. My window did not face the street so it was quiet for sleeping.
Lack of Air Conditioning; decades old decor; screen less windows to fire escape; tiny bathroom: inadequate desk; cramped quarters
Restaurant; free breakfast
We had lukewarm water for showers for the first three days and then cold water for the last day. There was an engineering issue with their water but the front desk thought we were just fussy customers when we complained on the first day. Fortunately on our fourth day when the whole hotel had no hot water, we were given a slight discount on our stay.
The location of the hotel could not have been better. Close by Union Square, the Bart, and all other forms of transportation, this hotel was in a perfect location. The hotel was neat and funky with a very Parisian feel. It had a great staircase, old school gated elevator, and cool décor. The hotel provided a hot breakfast in the morning which is really great of them.
Noise - traffic/ outside air con
Location Breakfast Quirky charm Cleanliness The lift ( elevator)
I had to open the windows because no air conditioning, and it was very easy. The pillows were of very poor qua It's, lumpy feelings in the pillows.
The staff was helpful and pleasant.
No air conditioning, but only needed a few weeks out of the year in SF.
This is my go to hotel, once a year. Very convenient location (bush/Powell) and you won't find a nicer staff in San Francisco...every single employee is friendly, helpful, professional. This Hotel has quaint, cute rooms, comfortable bed, great breakfast, nice sized bathroom.
No views from 6th floor room, but we knew that going in. We were not there to spend a lot of time in the room.
First, let me say the staff was excellent. We were treated to top notch service from the minute we stopped st the desk. Room was clean and plenty of room for my friend and I. Breakfast was good and service quick which was important so we could head out for the day. Location was fantastic. 2 blocks from Union Square and from Chinatown.
