location is excellent, helpful staff, comfortable rooms laid out in a way that makes sense, tasty breakfast
City noises take us a little while to get used to
Good clean room, nice and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice. Decor was a little unique but very well done.
Hotel was fine but just a little warning. The cable cars are cute but don't expect to use then as a mode of transport, more a tourist thing, catch a bus.
Great location, very easy to reach everything from the hotel. Breakfast was great, the staff was friendly. Clean but a bit small room, the design is not really my style, but still nice.
Location Breakfast Room size Wi-fi decoration
The bed was comfortable. My window did not face the street so it was quiet for sleeping.
This hotel does not have air conditioning. I was concerned about leaving the window open for air because it had the fire escape landing right at the opening. Also the quaint looking claw foot bath tub just didn't work well for showering. The breakfast started at 7:30 on weekdays. Since I had to leave at 7:30 for a business meeting across town I did not get any value for the pre paid breakfast. They didn't have an option for getting breakfast early. I do not recommend this hotel.
Restaurant; free breakfast
Lack of Air Conditioning; decades old decor; screen less windows to fire escape; tiny bathroom: inadequate desk; cramped quarters
The location of the hotel could not have been better. Close by Union Square, the Bart, and all other forms of transportation, this hotel was in a perfect location. The hotel was neat and funky with a very Parisian feel. It had a great staircase, old school gated elevator, and cool décor. The hotel provided a hot breakfast in the morning which is really great of them.
We had lukewarm water for showers for the first three days and then cold water for the last day. There was an engineering issue with their water but the front desk thought we were just fussy customers when we complained on the first day. Fortunately on our fourth day when the whole hotel had no hot water, we were given a slight discount on our stay.
Location Breakfast Quirky charm Cleanliness The lift ( elevator)
Noise - traffic/ outside air con
The staff was helpful and pleasant.
I had to open the windows because no air conditioning, and it was very easy. The pillows were of very poor qua It's, lumpy feelings in the pillows.
This is my go to hotel, once a year. Very convenient location (bush/Powell) and you won't find a nicer staff in San Francisco...every single employee is friendly, helpful, professional. This Hotel has quaint, cute rooms, comfortable bed, great breakfast, nice sized bathroom.
No air conditioning, but only needed a few weeks out of the year in SF.
First, let me say the staff was excellent. We were treated to top notch service from the minute we stopped st the desk. Room was clean and plenty of room for my friend and I. Breakfast was good and service quick which was important so we could head out for the day. Location was fantastic. 2 blocks from Union Square and from Chinatown.
No views from 6th floor room, but we knew that going in. We were not there to spend a lot of time in the room.
Our room was on the ground floor at the back, lovely and quiet. I didnt find the bed very comfortable so had trouble sleeping. It was very close to everywhere, Union Square, Chinatown etc. Would definatley recommend this hotel.
Some friends were returning a hire car across the road and called in and left a message to meet up. We didnt get the message so missed out on a reunion.
A quirky hotel with a good location even with the steep climb up from Sutter St. We had a hiccup with our room booking and our second room was spacious and comfortable although the shower in the bath took a little getting used to. We looked forward to breakfast which was served in the hugely atmospheric basement restaurant by courteous and efficient staff.
Our first room was very small and even though San Francisco doesn't get that hot, without AC the ceiling fan struggled to keep things cool.
The location was perfect, 10 minutes walk to Union Square. The French style decor and the restaurant, food and the service was excellent. A very charming traditional style hotel.
There wasn't anything we didn't like about this hotel
Location and proximity to many things.
Water pressure in shower (room 601) was horrific. Barely a trickle. Wife was unable to wash her hair in shower and had to use the sink to rinse shampoo out.
Every thing, Espiecially Diane
Rooms large enough, good location. Nothing special about it
Breakfast = pancakes or eggs the one day, french toast or eggs the other day so nothing special.
Breakfast: a baguette/croissant with preserve would have been more apropos given the French theme.
Great location in San Francisco, excellent public transport including the ubiquitous trolley car a 1 minute walk away. Good size rooms Very friendly staff
The decor was a bit jaded and faded in places and the furniture looked a bit old fashioned (not antique/ classic) No view from the room we had The note about tipping at breakfast irked
The hotel in general was good Liked the breakfast.
The reason i didn't rate the hotel very high was the size of the bed. 4ft is not acceptable for a two people. The room was described as a standard queen. 4ft and covered in plastic is not good.
location friendly staff on site restaurant chef created breakfasts included value for San Francisco
outdated furnishings and decor general cleanliness
The staff were very helpful. My room had sunlight and a view even though I was at the back of the hotel - I had requested a quiet room. It was within easy walking distance of public transport and convenience shops. There were food shops just across the road.
Great Location, boutique style great breakfast
Not modern enough for my tastes but others will like the 'olde worlde' style.
Staffs are good and helpful. The bed is firm, good for sleeping, bathroom towels are clean. Restaurant' s Jeanne d' Arc decoration is delightful. Overall , the hotel' s cleanliness is very good. Bonus point is in the middle of the American big city there is historical French tastefully injected. Truely enjoyment. ;)
It is a bit of uncomfortable when walking back to the front door of the hotel at night due to someone looked suspicous around the area.
Charming and very French. Restaurant is worth the stay and taking photos. Good value and location close to Union Square park
