Built in 1877, this boutique Boston hotel is less than 2 blocks from Boston Common. It features free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour front desk and a daily continental breakfast buffet.
Score from 1800 reviews Good
This elegant hotel is in the historic Ames building in downtown Boston, 2 miles from the Back Bay area. It features a 24-hour fitness center. Cable TV and a minibar are found in all rooms at the Ames....
Score from 414 reviews Excellent
In downtown Boston, this redesigned boutique hotel is just a short distance from attractions like Boston Commons and Newbury Street.
Score from 1509 reviews Excellent

Score from 1008 reviews Very good
Loved the bed, the shower, the view from the room, the location and properly working free wifi!
no room service. :(
Really really small bathroom and no fan
I liked the price and the location.
The walls were so thin we had to speak over the tv of the room next to us, causing them to come and tell us we were being loud (we werent). I also was not impressed with the adjoining doors, room size or the inability to turn the heat down in the room.
Noise control excellent. No hallway noises or other guest noise through walls. Great location, takes advantage of Boston's walk-ability.
Cleanliness and friendly hotel staff. Great view from room and located very close to tourist attractions
Wifi often cut out. Hotel bar closed at 11
Central to subways and events
Parking rates for valet and self parking were out of this world - might have considered other properties had i know parking rates
Cleanliness, location, and comfort of room
Very loud housekeeping staff at 8AM yelling down the hallways and slamming doors even though check out was not until 12PM. Credit card was charged 3 days prior to our arrival and subsequently charged $10 two days after we left with no apparent explanation.
Found staff to be rude except valet and housekeeping.
Did not clean the room as other hotels generally do
I absolutely loved the location. Very near to many eating places. The staff was very very helpful. I had things getting delivered, things to be kept refrigerated, lots of questions and dealt with different people at the reception. To my amazement, they were all equally helpful! Very Impressed!
The room could have been a little bigger. Would loved to have a minibar in the room.
Loved the quaint rooms and the ease of entering and exiting the hotel. The staff also let me check in early without an extra charge!
Not liking that I had to buy an umbrella when other hotels just lend them out.
Nice lobby and bar area
Rooms need serious makeover. Bathrooms were the poorest I've set in any Marriott.
Downtown Boston...(except in winter), everything that we saw and experienced was within walking distance of our Hotel. I am eager to return to Boston during baseball season(my hubby likes baseball and wants to see Fenway Park). We traveled via Amtrak and the views were absolutely breathtaking north of NYC .
The sliding glass shower door; we could get in to take a shower, but we couldn't get out to dry off without much difficultly!!! The shower inside handle is missing; causing us to use the screw that's attached to the outside door!!! Poor design of a sliding glass shower door! That's why we downgraded the Facilities to "Poor", other than that you would have received an "Excellent" rating/review across the board.
Friendly service, clean, very centrally located
drinks and water overly expensive, not very cosy lobby hall, small rooms, by far too expensive for what it offers
Location was perfect for theater attendance...close and convenient. Lots of good restarants with varying prices and menus within easy walking distance. Staff was friendly and easy to work with (Tatiana...not sure if I have her name correct but enjoyed kidding with her!) Valet parking staff pleasant and gave us good directions for exiting the city to head north. Would probably choose this hotel again if in the area.
OK...pricey. Understand location, location, location..but still found the room fee...pricey! room was small-very small!-but for just an overnight it was adequate.
It was just what we needed for the night
There was no lock on the bathroom, no fan either, I couldn't control the temperature of the room. I didn't like hearing the people next to us early in the morning screaming at each other. Walls are too thin
Excellent location near many colleges and downtown activities. Access to transportation is also good for accessing further destinations. Helpful staff.
Like all Boston hotels, it was expensive and parking is not included ($34 per day). The room was a little warm at night for my liking but might have been related to the transitional season (heat versus cool) that we were there.
Staff were exceptionally friendly, courteous and helpful. Location is brilliant for restaurants and Theatre District.
Incredibly expensive! $350 for basically a motel room which had a grim odour was terrible value.
The staff was excellent. The cleaning crew was the friendliest staff I have ever encountered. The lobby decor is updated and modern and the location is centrally located. If you are going to a show, you can crawl back to your room it is so close.
The room and bathroom decor were dated. The room pictured on the website did not look similar to the room we had. The carpet was old and dirty. The bed was decent and the location was good. My husband and I are very low key and we usually pick a modestly priced hotel because you don't spend that much time in your room. Sadly this was the most expensive hotel I have ever stay at and for $220 a night, I would expect a little more luxury. However, Boston is a pricey town, so I guess it is expected.
Good location Bed was comfortable
Supermarket style sliding doors as front entrance. Elevators that sound and feel unsafe. Wallpaper peeling in dozens of spots around the room. Bathroom smells like mold. No mini fridge in room. Bathroom outdated and poor remodel. Small television. Random stains around the room. Bodily fluids easily visible on headboard. Disgusting!
Very convenient location, room was clean and comfortable, got plenty of bars close by.
I selected "include breakfast service" when I booked the double room for 3 people online, however they told me in the morning that the breakfast service was only for 2 people and charged me an extra $15 for the 3rd one.
Location - 2 mins walk from Boston common. Easy walking to most attractions. Good breakfast not too expensive at $15 each (considering a major city). Refurbished rooms are very nice, except for the Windows.
The Windows are not double glazed, so even though we were on the 10th floor the noise from the street was quite loud. You lose WiFi access as soon as you check out, so don't check out early if still need internet access.
