Was not sure what to expect in the middle of Newark, but this hotel was lovely, especially considering the rate we paid for a one night stay. Would absolutely stay again.
It's right behind the Prudential Center, where you can go to see tons of sporting events and concerts. Staff was friendly, room was great, esp. the artwork!
Not only do you have to pay extra for the parking, but it's not attached to the hotel, and it's unclear where to go. We had to park on the roof of the garage adjacent to the hotel, not under a roof. And then walk around the block to the hotel. I think it was only $20 for parking which isn't bad, but it was still a pain.
The closeness to the prudential center was ideal!!!
Having to pay for parking.
Their shuttle was not working, so a relatively short drive to the airport turned into a 25 minute drive.
room size, cleanliness
Limited dining, no room service, slow free wi-fi
Our first morning we had to go out for breakfast as the Bistro did not have bacon! The staff were very apologetic and offered us breakfast on our second morning at their expense and yes, they would have bacon! The service and food was excellent and this has not put us off returning on our next trip to NY.
We booked this hotel primarily because we were attending at concert at the Prudential Centre which is more or less just around the corner. We were given a room at the rear of the hotel which overlooked the hotel/event car park. Although not the best view, the room was very quiet. The rooms are a good size, very well furnished and clean. Good sized bathroom with large shower. All the staff we came across were extremely polite and friendly. We deliberately didn't eat in the hotel as we wanted to sample some of the many nearby bars & restaurants. There is a free hourly shuttle bus to and from Liberty International Airport which also stops at Penn Railway Station.
A very good security measure is in place which only allows lift travel to the reception/lobby which is on the first floor. A room key reader is installed in the lift to enable guests to reach their floors. Unfortunately we like many other guests had to have our key card re-programmed a couple of times during our 3 night stay. Only a minor irritation as there was usually someone else in the lift at the time.
- Very close to the Prudential Center - Free airport shuttle - Ability to print boarding passes at the lobby - WiFi fast and easy to use
Operations Mgr was very pleasant. Upgraded me to a suite. Very spacious and comfortable.
Have to pay for parking and drive up to deck 5. I was told by parking lot staff if I parked on another level I would be charged again for parking.
Included breakfast from Starbucks was delicious.
Total confusion regarding reservation. Created anxiety and frustration. Billing was a nightmare....rooms were prepaid but we were constantly told they were not. Reserved "King Rooms" but were given others when we checked in. Now concerned with amount we paid for rooms we did not stay in!
Helpful friendly staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Security for getting into the hotel.
The room was very noisey at night for external traffic son could do with double glazing or sound proofing.
the street is not safe I was afraid that my wife and daughter walk alone in the street.
Short taxi ride rom airport at night Late check in Free shuttle bus during the day Comfortable bed Friendly staff
Everyone at the Marriott was as helpful as they could have been. Very comfortable room, and wonderful bed
The locality let the Marriott down, unfortunately. Once out on the street, we felt as though we had stepped into a whole different country, and not in a good way
Everything about hotel is excellent modern and appealing. Excellent exercise room all equipment works. Great staff. Like room key access to elevator for guests only.
Located in very tough neighborhood. Good police protection but lot of folks not used to a big city would have concerns. Also had to carry luggage from parking garage to hotel. Unheard of in the south. But understand that's how things roll in Jersey. Hope city can get this area revitalized for tourists without hurting people who have to live in Newark. God bless. Rks.
The staff was very friendly. The Bistro was good. Very clean. Comfortable bed
Wish had complimentary breakfast. More security
The hotel has a fresh and modern look. The Bistro and Market is a lovely welcome for dinner and late night snacking. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean.
Breakfast time becomes chaotic,as one person takes orders and cash while preparing take away sandwiches at the same time.
Paid parking came with unlimited in and out privileges, which was a bonus. The room was spacious. Great coffee shop across the street for breakfast.
The parking was not attached to the hotel, which was a minor inconvenience. Having to use the room key on the elevator was understandable for security, but still inconvenient.
Nice rooms and lobby area
Signing a "no-parties in the room" agreement (which basically states that if you ever exceed 3-4 people in a room, you get kicked out) seems very silly to me
The street noise was loud, and the area did not seem very safe to me. Also parking was not attached to building so you had to walk around the corner on the street with bags to get to the entrance after parking. To check in, the only option is to park in a no parking zone with flashers on, while you check in and figure out where to go for parking. Finally, the parking was not free and this was not disclosed on booking.com until after I had already paid for the room with no possibility of refund. It was an extra $21 per night, which seemed excessive.
The rooms were clean.
I had requested, at least six weeks prior to check-in, the two room I had reserved to be next to each other. However, when we checked in, the rooms were down the hall from each other. The woman speaking on the phone assured me my request would be honored, but it was not. It was my graduation from Kean, and I was with my 83 year old mother and another family member who is disabled. Also, a free breakfast would have been appreciated.
