The red book with peoples' name, address, phone, and credit card numbers resides on the top of the front desk, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some staff members complain about how things are run. There was no connection with booking.com; just took the debit card. I don't know exactly why the $260 for rooms came to $343.85. I understand the 15% tax, but not the 15% gratuity, because it didn't go to the housekeeper nor the waitress. The breakfast room is dirty, as were the bowls, glasses, a cup. Sitting rooms needed a cleaning, and it would have been easy to make the antiques downstairs look better with a touch-up of Old English. Heard some of the staff swearing in conversation together. Some staff was dismissive.
Chef Trudeau is excellent. Room was sparkling clean and attractive, as was the bathroom; guests were pleasant and considerate about the shared bathroom. Bed very comfortable. The breakfast was very adequate, with fresh fruit, and several options.
