When traveling alone vs with my family, I try to stay at inexpensive, family-run motels. Staying in Gallup for a few days, I chose the Desert Skies Motel. The owners were friendly and accommodating. The location for me was good because I was wanting to be on Historic Route 66. It was just down the street from the overpass to the freeway or shopping, and the Plaza Cafe - my breakfast joint of choice both days - was literally one minute away. The room has cable tv, wi-fi, a microwave, and fridge. My fridge was not on but I'm guessing it works as needed. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean.
The main detraction is just the aging appearance of the property. It's simply showing it's age, including furnishings, fittings, etc. Personally it isn't a big deal to me but it might not impress some people. Also, the property can be a little dark. The lights appear to be on a timer that come on at a set time. Both nights they came on when it was already well after sunset, making it hard to see and perhaps a little disconcerting. Ultimately I found it to be a good value and poked a second night versus continue on to a new location.
The quality of the furnishings is very low. The paint was peeling off the walls, the toilet didn't flush, and the ceiling tiles were warped and falling out. The door stuck and we had trouble getting out of our room. When we tried to call the desk for help, no one answered even though we let the phone ring for 5 minutes. My online registration said my total would be 39.99 after tax, they charged me 42.00. Save yourself and stay somewhere else.
clean room, good sleep, good value
a/c was a little loud, but it completely covered any sound from train.
Awful odor in the room. Had to wash clothes next day, the odor permeated the clothes in our suitcases. You had to move the microwave & fridge to plug them in. Bugs in the bathroom. Ice machine didn't work. Didn't feel safe there. Would not recommend!
railway station next to motel
fair price wi-fi
very noisy train station
No power outlets in room at all
Trains No power outlets Cold no heat control
It was cheap
Trains all night, dirty room, knife marks in the bathroom door
Staff asked me to keep my dog in the bathroom!!
Friendly and caring staff, very clean room, sparkling bathroom with 60's charm, and very comfortable bed at an affordable price. Very quiet !
l'enseigne lumineuse, tres jolie
the neighbourough not safe, a lot of weird people arround , too much noise ; trains, cars , trucks, planes... flush don't work properlly the room is old, the electricity too and doesn't seems safe
Both the office and the room smelled terrible, somewhere between formaldehyde and human urine. Fortunately I had some air freshener in my bag. Also the motel was very close to a freight-train yard, so diesel engines and train horns were blaring all night. TV didn't have "sleep" option on the remote. No coffee in the morning either.
the management was extremely helpful and willing to make me happy there. Very Nice people
