Score from 186 reviews Good
Surrounded by flower gardens with fountains, this boutique hotel has individually furnished rooms in 5 historic buildings. It is about a 15-minute walk from the University of California at Berkeley.
Score from 159 reviews Very good
Situated in Oakland, California's historic Jack London Square and only steps from many area attractions, this hotel offers a tranquil atmosphere, comfortable accommodations and all of the latest...
Score from 177 reviews Good
broken shower knob that we didnt notice until the morning when we were in a hurry to shower & leave and couldn't shower!!! That is our only complaint.
decor, people, comfort, location
Poor sound isolation. Sunshades did not work properly.
Highly funky...in a good way.
Room is minimal in size. Old desk and furnitures. The executive level is not worthing the extra money. Very limited hours to get access to the lounge. Not convenient for most of us.
Location is great if you have business to do at Berkeley University. Many restaurants and stores around.
They didn't clean my room, when I discovered it was not done at 7pm I was informed they had no staff that could clean at night and offered me towels. Later the same staff called and said she had checked the "do not disturb list" that I wasn't on it, so no she could offer me a free drink. I have never been more insulted by hotel staff.
It was not really bad, but just room for improvement would be the parking. It is hard to get in and out if.
The executive floor was very nice and far away from the street level to be fairly quiet
A little pricey for what it is
Staff were excellent
The staff was incredible.
location, service, location
Shower was not working correctly
Front desk was friendly
- serving in the restaurant took some time - did not like the style of the rooms, but that is my personal taste - breakfast not included in price
- location - has a restaurant and breakfast possibility - free wifi
We were bait and switched, they showed us a beautiful room on booking.com for $213.69. We got a room I wouldn't pay $25 for. If they let me show pictures of this horrible room I would show you. Am currently attempting to be refunded for that horrible mess called a room.
I liked nothing about this room, it was tiny didn't resemble the room we booked on booking.com
The bathroom sink is too small.
The hotel is environmentally friendly. Use of space very efficient. Like the old Europe vibe. Clean and comfortable.
The Durant is an older hotel and our shower didn't work great, but it wasn't enough of a problem to keep us from staying another time.
If you want to stay in close proximity to the Berkeley campus, this is the place for you. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast at Henry's was wonderful!
In room 116 (Berkeley) for three days, the electrical sockets on the desktop had lower than stated voltage making my laptop not able to bring up a screen display- when the laptop was later plugged into the wall socket, everything was fine. There is some problem with the sockets on the desktop that needs to be fixed as this problem almost cancelled the reason for the business trip.
Convenient for access to the Berkeley campus and nearby restaurants
no fan in bathroom, view of street trash isn't what I would expect of bay view selling point.
enjoyed cafe breakfast very much, setting and service were good. Dinner was fun. Food in Hotel changes whole experience for the better. Gives life to the place.
Only one night stand-- we had to flip a coin for who got the side of the bed with a reading lamp. Extremely cramped and dark. The window was behind the TV, making it difficult to open. It got very stuffy.
Great location, we could walk to the game and to several shops and restaurants
The hotel is old and dated. The decor dates back to the 70's. The bathroom was extremely tiny with no counter space.
The hotel had great proximity to the university. Easy walking to shops and restaurants. It was clean and nice linens on bed and in bathroom.
Bar closes before 10pm. Bar and restaurant smells of dead fish
The room was a little dated and musty. The lobby was in restoration during our stay and the sitting areas were not useable.
My son and I were visiting Berkeley and it is as close as any hotel could be. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Room was rather old-fashioned (sink in the bedroom area vs. separate small room for shower/toilet) & too cramped for a queen-sized bed
Ease of access, good staff, excellent location near UC campus and many restaurants, etc.
Nothing staff only talked about how busy they were got wrong room TV inoperable too much money for this place not worth it over rated
Overpriced for out-dated decor, squeaky beds and strange odor.
The hotel amenities were good, but the rate they charged for location/services is more consistent with the famous Berkeley spa hotel to the East.
College game-day atmosphere was outstanding, and the beach party out back was a real hit for pre-game fun. Henry's Bar remains a classic and well worth a return visit for alumni living out of the area.
